I saw someone say this: Normally namjoon is cool, calm and collected but has a monster that he keeps on a leash. And can let it out when he wants to and destroy the beat and haters and lock it up again.
Seeing as he is both the prison guard and prisoner here, I'd say it makes sense.
Basically this song was about the people who dissed him because he joined an idol group. Saying he can't rap or his rap is bad. So in this song he showed not only he can rap but he can change his flow. His and Suga's breathe control is beyond ridiculous. They can spit out a large amounts of words before needing to take a breathe. In the video it's basically the showing the different sides of himself. One being the patient his insane side and the guard being his more in control side. This is one his fastest rap song he also has his song rap/singing songs like forever rain. Rm is a lyrical genius, he Is credited with almost 200 songs.

Oh, Lindsey...the rappers from BTS are gonna knock you off your feet!!! All 3 are just so good. Someone probably said this already, but they aren't allowed to be this "raw" on Idol songs, but on these solo adventures they can do whatever they want, as these are done on their own time and their own money. RM and Suga were both underground rappers/producers before they ever signed with BigHit, so they've been doing this a long time. There are stories of the older more experienced rappers in the underground being afraid to battle RM cuz he was so good, even in his early teens. His wordplay is unsurpassed. JHope learned to rap after he got signed with BigHit (he came in as a dancer).
I love that RM can do music like this while simultaneously loves to find little crabs on the beach and show the other members. He’s very talented but also very sweet and a lot of people assume he’s one of the older members but he’s actually the middle in age. The members joke that RM takes care of them when they work but the rest of the members take care of him when they aren’t working.
Their duality is crazy.... I think most koop artists have crazy dualities...I mean they be singing and cursing while performing or in the mv and then be like the most harmless and sweetest people in real life.
RM did 9 different flows here. All of RM's work are based on deep lyrics but not Joke. Joke is full of word play. This song was a slap to haters who criticized that he cnt rap fast or flow hard as "he had become an idol rapper" n said his rap was based on only lyricism n delivery. Also mocked him for persuing his career as BTS. Joke was his answers to those so called " rappers" who only spit words like 'bibidi babidi' (basically just saying any word that would go with the rhythm without having any actual meaning). Like that through Joke he showed that he can rap fast but good rap ain't just about speed. Just being fadt doesn't make it meaningful. It was a clap back to haters!

This was actually my FIRST exposure to ANY Korean music. I didn't even know who BTS was, or RM for that matter. This showed up in my recommendations. I loved it! It was a year later when I found BTS and fell in the hole. When I realized he was the rapper that I saw... oh boy! I was done, in this for life. DO YOU is also a favorite. I love this song so much..this is from his first mixtape: "RM". so they were attacked a whole fucking lot since their debut as rm and suga were both underground rappers before and that they are a hiphop idol group now...downgrading their rapping skills and overall their talent from many hiphop artist and most industry as well...this song is a clapback for his haters...the younger namjoon aka rm his aggressiveness, his anger is so visual in this mixtape, the song title and lyrics are so raw and i like to interpret the whole song as a joke as well along side being a diss track and I love how the vibe just completely changes to his next mixtape 3 years after showcasing his growth and lyricism. you should really check out RM's second mixtape "MONO" its the epitome of comfort...love this reaction btw💜💜

RM has major duality. He is the kindest and one of the gentlest souls out there but when he's angry, he becomes something much more... aggressive. I love it.

Officially, it's 9.88 sps. Jungkook rapped at 10.75 sps for a cover on a Jin Eats episode. Suga can rap faster than RM, but he chooses not to on his songs, to concentrate on his flow instead. He hit at 11.38 at a radio interview doing Cypher pt 2. Changbin from Stray Kids may be challenging for the title soon. He did a cover at 11.13, but since it was a cover, it isn't official...just like Jungkook's cover.

great reaction, lindsay!!! rm is a great lyricist and rapper, he came from the korea underground rap scene and is amazing at wordplay. he is really smart (148 iq) and you can tell when listening to his songs. another solo i would like to recommend is "daechwita" by agust d (suga's solo name), not only the rapping and lyrics are amazing, but the cinematography is top notch!!

I also LOVE "Born Singer". It's a group song, but it really shows the difference in their rap styles.
BTW, "Born Singer" and "Outro: Tear" are both emotional because the lyrics are so personal. Their live performances are worth watching. "Her" is a love song. The others I mentioned are diss tracks.

This is his diss track, i think he’s targetting one particular rapper who dissed him so he’s firing back. i interpret the video as him letting his “rap monster” loose for a bit and at the end locking him up again. The end is him as rap monster challenging that other rapper to diss him again. Its just me tho
I laughed out loud (and gave a knowing nod) at the ‘tie me up’ bit. Also, I love your sailor mouth - I have the same😉. This is RM at his rawist F* you style. His work on his second mix-tape shows his poet side. Can’t wait for you to see Suga and J-Hope. They each have such unique styles. I visualise music, and I see RM’s rap as a rocky river full of eddies, rapids, calm spots, smooth stretches. Suga is a derp fast river with a deceptively smooth surface and you don’t see the currents til you’re in them. J-Hope is like a boat dancing over the waves in the sun!

I’ve been listening to BTS for almost 7 months now but due to all their songs, videos and other content, I have not listened to much of their singles (RM, Suga and J-hope) and just come across this one today. Now while I was raising my children, it would have been over my dead body before I let them listen to something like this. I’ve grown over the last few years and honestly, with the help of not just BTS but all three rappers over the months. I was completely shocked that those words come from RM, but I loved it. He was honest and he rapped like no other. Now I’m going to have to check out some more from him.

For solo songs the rap line did a set of songs (about Karl Jung's map of the soul) that really shows their different styles. RM: Persona, Suga: Shadow, JHope: Ego. They are all so good in such different ways.
BTW, this is important since you will watch Daechwita at some point. The word Daechwita refers to the music / march that they would play when the King was on his way to the village in long ago Korea. Suga's video is all about the old King being replaced by the new King with a lot in between.

Yes, at the beginning their lyrics and style were a lot more raw than nowadays (maybe harsh too). It was probably due to what they had to endure and bear at the time. Just to let you know, ARMY's official color is Purple. I do like the jersey. RM played all the roles in this MV. I think the message is that he totally is in control of his rap and his music. He's the one keeping himself in check, not anyone else. Just my interpretation. I Think THAT, in and of itself, is a message to his haters. RM is my Bias. Both of his mixtapes are amazing. I actually have two bias's, but RM was the one that caught my attention first and foremost. I do have a soft spot for the Rap Line. Bias's = RM and J Hope, Bias Wreckers = Jimin and SUGA. QUICK BACKGROUND: This is one of RM’s earlier rap song when they were still starting in the industry being looked down to, belittled and ridiculed. He poured his heart out in writing those lyrics in response directed to his haters. Almost the same content as in Suga’s rap lyrics, too. It was during those dark and depressing times for them individually, and as a group. However, after releasing their initial solo works, their label manager, Bang PD and mentor challenged them at one point and asked if they will keep themselves in that same dark monologues all throughout their career. Bang PD encouraged RM, and Suga, to look deeper and wider in their lyrical spectrum, beyond defending themselves from all the hate and pat down they are receiving, to be magnanimous and embrace their uniqueness and individuality. Swearing in their rap is a way of releasing all those pent-up emotions they have in them. And Bang PD told RM that it is OK to feel that way. That he can spew it all out, get it over and done with, close that chapter and create new beautiful chapters further on. RM and Suga’s lyricism has evolved and is now coming in full circle. Their earlier solo albums remain iconic, a reminder of who they once were and how they took the high road - leaving their haters behind to drown in the dust clouds as they soar up to superstardom, hand in hand with the ARMY.

There are two different types of solo projects for the boys. There are solo projects that are under Big Hit that are part of the BTS discography and then there are solo projects that they have done outside of the BTS discography, like this song. Their individual projects, not part of BTS, tend to be under fewer restrictions than their BTS works. The cursing is an example of that. All three rappers have mix tapes with RM and Suga having two and J-Hope having one. Suga actually uses a different name for his mix tapes, Agust D. The vocalists have been working on mix tapes but have only released individual songs at this point. Jimin has "Promise" and the recent song that's a duet with another artist, "With You". Most of Jungkook's songs end up as part of the BTS discography or he does covers, but his song, "Still With You", is an independent work. He has a more recent song called, "Stay Alive" that was written and produced by Suga. it's not really a part of the BTS discography, but it's not a completely independent work, either. It's an OST for their webtoon, "7Fates: Chakho". Jin has "Tonight", "Abyss", and "Yours". "Yours" is a recent song. V/Taehyung has Winter Bear and Sweet Night, along with a couple of duets with other members. Actually every one of the most recent songs by the vocal line are all OSTs, Original Sound Tracks. Both he and Suga raw sides come from their years of being underground rappers who "battled" other rappers. So, to have these other rappers diss them for being part of an "Idol" group, just fired up their need to clapback the best way possible, by writing these amazing diss-tracks.
