You have a 4th set of rings to play with. The first three sets right on top of each other are purity, Red-green convergence and red-blue convergence... I think. Anyway that 4th set further back on its own helps with vertical bowing. Move them away from each other or closer together and you'll be able to straighten the top and bottom of the image. Don't seperate them too far! 8mm maximum. My Trinitron came with that same bowing. The problem you thought was mainly to do with Vertical position.
Yes! I saw a video of someone demonstrating this recently. I have been meaning to do a follow up video demonstrating what you explained in this comment. How did you find out about the bowing fix?

I believe that the reason the red gun happens to go out quicker than the green and blue guns on Trinitrons more likely than on other mask types from what I have found (even ones used very heavily) is because the red gun requires a higher beam current compared to the other 2 colors. So if the red still looks a tiny bit misaligned after doing whatever you could, don't worry about it as it's most certainly the best that the red convergence will get. Any tips on how to fix blooming? My CRT grows & warps a bit each time bright white stuff is on screen. I know it's normal to a point but it seems really extreme on my model. I have a Trinitron KV-20S10.
@@riggel8804 might not be able to get a video any time soon but it’s from August 1994, picked it up off the street for free so I’m assuming it wasn’t treated perfectly lol. The main problem is it bows a bit on the left & right depending on how bright that part is. That & the typical screen growing & shrinking from the blooming or whatev it’s called.
@@Nobutehuhh hard to say without looking at it. My best guess is that something is wrong with the voltage regulation circuit, possibly even the flyback. You could open it up and see if any of the caps around the voltage regulation circuit are bad or just replace all of them. If that doesn't work you could replace the flyback.

Great video. I have a Panasonic 29inch and am having problems with the focus on the corners, do you have any tip to fix it or improve it?. Thank you. Greetings from Argentina
Did you try adjusting the focus nob on the flyback? There also might be some pots on the neck board that will affect the corners. I am not familiar with that tv. Good luck.
Warning. When you correct corner focus it will often distort the focus in the middle of the screen. Sometimes it's best to live with the corner focus being off.
I have a monitor that ticks so I will probably try the dielectric grease first, it also glows up the back but I I've only looked through the grill, hoping that's just a cap issue.
Familiar with Sanyo flat crts? I'm trying to fix an issue, but can't find a guide to the service menu. I got into it, but have no idea how to navigate it.
I have almost the same exact geometry issue on my KV-36FS16 (which I’m pretty sure is the same chassis as yours), with just a little more overscan. Did you ever get it closer? If you did, what did you do?
Hi Riggel, i have been meaning to clean up the bottom right corner of my Zenith Flat CRT and watched how you did it. As long as Im not touching around on anything and just slip the convergence strip under the bottom left of the yoke (to correspond to the bottom right screen corner) theres no hazard or risk right? Rather than shoving a convergence strip under the yoke’s corner, could i just get a larger circular neodymium and tape it further away from that corner directly on the back of the tube?
Anything metal will give you a little zap while it's powered on. It doesn't hurt too bad. If you pull the anode cap off while it's powered on and stick it on your tongue it will ruin your day so try not to do that. Regarding the magnets, both of the techniques you mentioned can work. You really just need to get in there and play around. You will figure it out. Good luck!
Doing this i found relying on the grid isnt always the best. I prefer having the grid help, but switching inputs with a switcher and having several difrent consoles i want to play to test it. and just switching back and forth and trying to get the best middle ground. You can't get it perfect for everything. BUT you can get it pretty damn close.
Thanks man, I learned a lot with your video, I probably wil never do it , cause I am sure I will fuck it up, but is nice to learn this corner and green, red or blue stains can be fixed. Man, I own 3 different Widescreen CRT , one of them is PAL and NTSC 480i or 576i and the other 2 are HD with HDMI inputs, I realized the HD ones hade problemsof overscalling, somethis at the side or the top and bottom ( sides is the most common) do you have any video showing how to fix that kinfd of problem? cause I already tried with their service menues, but it seems is just impossible to recover those zones using them.
Some times it takes a couple tries. You have to power it on, power it off, then press the button combination, then power it on. Check the link in the description for more info. Your Tv sounds like it is not a USA TV. It might utilize a different service menu.
Great tutorial, I have a tilted screen and I thought that the only way to fix it was opening it up. Another question, I have a modded PSX and whenever I put a PAL game the image appears on colour (not b&w like most issues) but scrolling down at a really fast speed. Is there a way to fix that via service menu?
Should be able to fix that. Most tvs have an adjustment called "v hold" older sets usually have a nob on the outside for adjustment. Some tvs have the setting in the service menu.
Hey I know this is an older video, but can you tell me which setting in the service I need to change in order to fix the brightness banding on an XBR 250? I can't seem to find the solution anywhere online.
@@StormShad0w313 this is what i found XBR250 COLOR BANDING PROBLEM If you have a XBR250 and you're experiencing horizontal blue, green or red banding across the screen with a component video connection, you will need to enter service mode and adjust the HOSC parameter. Initially HOSC is set to 7 (factory default), you'll need to change it to about 11 - this will eliminate the color banding in the picture.
Yeah. I have a link to send you but youtube would fukin delete my comment if i sent a link so look for a video with this title. Sony Flat Trinitron RGB Geometry, Convergence, Bowing fix Basically you have to adjust the rings behind the convergence rings. If your problem is what I think it is. Good luck. Is there anything that i can do to get the colors looking right? It looks like the tv was left on for too long or something.
I tried another adapter. It fixed the color issue...the other adapter was the problem. But I see some blown out colors in the corners. I will post a video after I try to fix the geometry and color in the service menu...I fucked it all up trying to fix the other issues lol.
Cool video but your geometry is still pretty messed up at the end. I wonder if it's even possible to fix it on these flat screens. Mine is pretty bad too.
The geometry on this tv is fine for my taste. If you want perfect geometry on a grid pattern than you want something other than a flatscreen Sony. I recommend a small pro monitor. Many of those have perfect geometry. There are some other techniques to correct geometry that I didn't attempt in this video but I don't think it's worth trying to make Flatscreen Sonys perfect.
As someone with a large flat-screen crt that was serviced by a professional (old guy in the neighborhood who used to work in the trade), its pretty much impossible to get perfect geometry. The technology is still made to be projected on a curved bulb at about 20", not on a flat screen at 30+", so nearly any fix for warping or bending you implement will cause a problem somewhere else on the screen. That said, it certainly is possible to get it good enough to where you don't notice any issues in-game, which is the ultimate goal. As a hobbyist, it can be very rewarding to meticulously correct the errors on a CRT using the 240p test suite. But ultimately, if the goal is to play games, the issues on the grid will hardly surface in actual play.
I have a Samsung Tantus 34" crt HDTV and for some reason it just stoped working.. I plug it to the wall and nothing happens not even the stand by led.. I been wondering if I can solve the problem myself but im kind of scared of doing something wrong hahah. I think Im gonna give it a try soon. I love the image quality that CRT has
My first thought is that the power supply failed. You can try finding a CRT with a similar power supply and swapping it out. It's not a hard fix if you can find the right power supply but it might not be the power supply.

Fuses are designed to blow if something is wrong. Do not use the tv until the problem is addressed. You can open it and look for any obvious problems like leaking caps. If you can't fix it take it to a tech. A lot of guys that fix hifi stereo equipment can also service CRTs.

Great information...I didn't know how to save settings in the service menu...I just turned the tv off and back on. Also the 0 plus enter to bring the settings back to default will help me alot. I might even try to do some magnet adjustments to my 36 inch garage Trinitron that I use as my test tv. @@dreamingdragon6913 kinda. The snes only outputs 240p so all of your calibrations will be in 240p but yea it will help you calibrate geometry and convergence. 240p is the same as 480i in this context.
That's was very informative, thanks. I have a doubt, can the anode wire shock you? I have a 20 inch and it doesn't have that much space to work around it when adjusting the strips and magnets.
The wire is insulated and should not shock you. However I try not to touch it. There is a very high voltage going through it. I do bump it sometimes. I've worked on 20 inchers before and they are generally easier. However they can be tight and every time I've been shocked it was on a 20 inch. Get someone to help so you can look at the screen while they adjust if it's a tight spot. Don't hesitate to get creative. I used a 2x4 piece of wood to push on a yoke once while it was energized because I kept zapping myself when I tried to push it with my hand.
@@riggel8804 Thanks, funnily enough I adjusted the yoke on mine before and it didn't shock me, I was just suspicious of working around the anode wire because of the HV.
@Ken Mason I'm sorry, english is not my first language, but when you say lead you mean the connector or the extremity of the wire, right? Just to be clear, I meant the insulated part of the cable, do you think there is enough high voltage to arc on a cable with the insulation in good condition?
@Ken MasonWhat about liquid insulation tape? I have noticed that there are small sparks coming from the anode cable, and I would like a easier fix other than removing and replacing the cable. So, I was thinking about using liquid insulation tape.

Great video. I was able to improve convergence on my 13 and 20 inch trinitrons substantially. Unfortunately there doesnt seem to be an HTrap on the fs100 models.
Thanks for the feedback. Glad I could help
very cool video. thanks.
Any tips on how to fix blooming? My CRT grows & warps a bit each time bright white stuff is on screen. I know it's normal to a point but it seems really extreme on my model. I have a Trinitron KV-20S10.
How old is your tv? can you make a video and post it?
@@riggel8804 Thanks! Been looking around online & that seems to be the common answer, I’m really just scared of getting shocked at this point though lol. I’ll check out all the safety precautions & try it myself.

Food luck! Let me know the results after you work on it.
Familiar with Sanyo flat crts? I'm trying to fix an issue, but can't find a guide to the service menu. I got into it, but have no idea how to navigate it.
Hi I have a 14 inch ALBA TVD3406, the picture is too much to the left, it does not have a vertical focus when opened. Any suggestions...
Well I don’t know if this will help with my hitachi 28 inch flat screen crt but hopefully it will
Anything to adjust the over all width of the screen? Is it possible to globally zoom in and then adjust vertical size

Some times it takes a couple tries. You have to power it on, power it off, then press the button combination, then power it on. Check the link in the description for more info. Your Tv sounds like it is not a USA TV. It might utilize a different service menu.
@@riggel8804 tv was bought in Europe. I tried all kinds in last two weeks. I can't fugure out what is wrong.
@@riggel8804 I remember the knob from old tv sets, Sadly I haven't found "v hold" or anything like it in the menu nor the service one
Hey I know this is an older video, but can you tell me which setting in the service I need to change in order to fix the brightness banding on an XBR 250? I can't seem to find the solution anywhere online.

XBR250 COLOR BANDING PROBLEM
If you have a XBR250 and you're experiencing horizontal blue, green or red banding across the screen with a component video connection, you will need to enter service mode and adjust the HOSC parameter. Initially HOSC is set to 7 (factory default), you'll need to change it to about 11 - this will eliminate the color banding in the picture.

The bigger and the flatter a picture tube, the harder it is to get perfect geometry and convergence.

Bro....I got a 13" zenith sms1324s that keeps blowing fuses soon as I power it on! It's probably an easy fix I'm asking for ideas on what it might be?
Fuses are designed to blow if something is wrong. Do not use the tv until the problem is addressed. You can open it and look for any obvious problems like leaking caps. If you can't fix it take it to a tech. A lot of guys that fix hifi stereo equipment can also service CRTs.
I see a lot of concern in the comments. If it helps, I'm only a teenager and had 0 shocks inside a TV. Just go for it and follow the common precautions.

ceramic rectangle magnets from the hardware store. Similar in strength to fridge magnets.

I talk about magnets around 1minute into the video. Rectangle ceramic home depot cheap magnets are my favorite
The guy that had my tv before me must have known what hes doing because mine isnt nearly as bad as this one.
