Meet Kay Lo. Two years ago, he moved from America to the Philippines and now works in design and show business in Manila. Kay shared with me how it feels to be a Black American in the Philippines, why it’s easy for Westerners to adapt to the country, and why foreigners need to be patient in the Philippines. Enjoy!

I selected the Philippines. Cause they speak English and everything is affordable - you can go to a lot of different areas see different scenery and they treat you well.
I am also a black man, from America. I left the US in 1983 and have never gone back. Living in the Philippines is as close to heaven as possible while still alive. Wonderful people, wonderful weather, I married my Filipina girlfriend in 1981 in the US. After I retired from the USAF, we returned to her country in 1983. I'm soon to be 80 years old and love where I am and have no interest in going anywhere else.
I once thought of getting Filipino citizenship. I didn't do it because I would have lost my military retirement pay.
Thank you for choosing my country Philippines as your second home😁😁😁
Thank you for your service
R-E-S-P-E-C-T the🇵🇭people you will get the same respect!!!!
Great Video Max! Thanks again! Maraming Salamat to all the Filipino Viewers!

The PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) is the oldest professional basketball league after the USA and the first one in Asia.
First lang pero kulelat mga pba teams pagka international teams na makaharap.
@axizcorp I was just answering why the Filipinos love basketball. Being first doesn't automatically make you the best. You must also think certain factors thar make good players; height, body build, muscle mass, strength, world-class training and training facilities at an early age, good trainers, etc.. Usually, they learn the basics on their own and develop bad habits along the way.
Lived in PH for two years. Interesting place, not for everyone but defo prefer it to Canada. Glad he enjoys life there
if you try your best to fit in with us we respect that enough to consider you one of us thank you sir god bless
Gotta give props to whoever put the subtitles. It's more like a casual tagalog than a formal one.
Your videos made me interested in learning foreign languages and luckily I found Immersive translate. It has helped me in both learning and translation of the languages.
No need sub title Filipino use to speak English
This guy is nice, sure he can get around and mingle with pinoys because he's got that vibes. 👍 Awesome black guy, keep it up.
Please have English subtitles instead of Tagalog. It’s faster to read English subtitles.
agree!😁
THE FILIPINO PEOPLE ARE EASY GOING PEOPLE. FOREIGN PEOPLE CAN EASILY MAKE FRIENDS. BECAUSE THE PEOPLE ARE SO FRIENDLY..CHEAP, POLITE, EVEN THE SMALL KIDS, THEY ARE FRIENDLY W FOREIGNERS. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am new here 😊 you are right if you don’t cause problem there’s no problem hehehe
Yeah. IT'S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPLINES. yahoooo
Yesssss
Wow great effort on having Filipino subtitles. Great quality video!
LETS GO KAYLO!!!🎉
Yah he's right if u're good to Filipinos they're be good more than u expected, those foreigners who had bad experienced in Philippines,i'm 💯 sure they disrespect the people who disrespect them.
Nice interview from a point of view of a New Yorker!!
Thanks to you for apreciating our country and its people mabuhay
Wow, finally a Black in the PI video.
New subscriber here!
Happy to see. american love philippines..❤❤❤
but the tagalog subtitle is little bit confusing😅
kaya nga hindi ko na binabasa, nakikinig nalang ako sa english conversation 😅
@@catchie-df1op kaya nga eh. may mga salitang di tugma dun sa sinasabi..😅
@@MrRonnel2323 oo nga 😅
God bless you sir
Filipinos are nice but don’t abuse their kindness. King? 😂.. sorry no Royal Family in the Phils. People are only being friendly and nice.
right, respect more than anything
agree. can't feel supreme. we:re all equal.
I love the literal tagalog translation..lol..."It's crazy" -> "Nakakaloka"👍
When it comes to the Philippines, it's all about being GREEN whether you're black or white.
Stay safe sir
As a Filipino, sometimes its funny how our visitors feel so welcomed, they mistaken it for admiration or being treated like a "king" 😂
like this one white American, middle-aged vlogger walking at BGC and came along a grp of women, Filipinas waving at the camera to say HI, and all his comments saying "wow you are a star there!" like wtf! I think they are just not used to people smiling or waving to the camera in their home countries😅
That’s why I don’t like Americans traveling abroad… they feel entitled and self-centered
That’s true people in western countries not being use that someone smile on them or waving on the camera .
@@rijieceleste9824 im sure they're not used to it. coz i see people on the comments -- even smiling or giggling or even glancing by women are construed as FLIRTING . lol like wtf 🥴🙃
It's not that, it's more so the curiosity and welcome as of the Filipino people apart from other countries.
Yah I know cause I live in western country right now but I can’t blame them to think that way cause some Filipinos use that way to hook up to the foreigner .
Good guest good content
I think the missing a tooth part is more foundational to your experience in the PI than the black thing.
L8 watching here
Give back. Give back.. Like this guy, unselfish.
Nice interview,,, PH being exposed, although as mentioned, there's still carefulness needed, but overall it's great.
he is cute..
How great was it during cov?
I m pililino but i i m like your personality
yo! hey bro.Kay Lo,i disaggree that some foreigners should come to the Ph ...right now ,my countrymen are leaving thier normal lives and if some foreigners come flowing,i'm afraid that would trigger some change in our culture....so please, don't tell your brothers to come🥺😓😰😱
maybe we just love western people to experience our country? lol. we love them especially if theyre from the west because of that
Hongkong freedom country
🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
Hongkong a territory of China😊 That is why you had unrest several years ago😊When 50 years elapse after 1997☺ things will be much different😊
the substitle's really throwing me off.. hahaha I'm Filipino and I speak and read tagalog, but none english subs really nauseate me.
oh no you are not a king. its called respect. because you are human and you dont intend something nasty. but pls. you are not a king here. will never be 😂
wrong choice of words lol but yeah much respect for sure
U don't have to put subtitles bro 😂😂 were filipino❤
Nice video. But I don't understand the need for tagalog subtitles. The translation is cringe too, it's too proper, wordy and old school, no one speaks like that lol. It's also distracting.
bro its too low from the video 😭😭. but i agree, its not needed.
Wdym too cringe? So Tagalog the official Language is Cringy? No one speaks like that,?
If "Ang taong hindi lumilingon sa pinanggalingan" is a person
Interview with a jerk.
Unexpected from the Max Chernov 😂😂😂
We just respect but you are not a king here
king is wild lol
don't bring your toxic black mentality here!
Totally agree. NYC is trash.
The Tagalog sub is unnecessary
PH is paradise on earth for rich Filipinos only & not the ideal country for foreigners to settle foreigners in PH can't own properties & full business ownership don't enjoy same rights of Filipinos & are easily deported foreigners obtain PH citizenship if born & raised in PH which is not the case of expat newcomers
Foreigners don't need to be a Filipino citizen. They can apply for residency status then they can own property. No such thing as paradise in real sense. Most people wants to live a comfortable life in a peaceful invironment where most commodities are available. There are plenty of choices in the Philippines
Phil. Is not only for rich people as you tried to impart. Not all foreigners are rich where they came from. They want to live in the Phil. Because they find comfort, they are happy to be here. Whatever they experienced in their own country that's their business. Most Filipinos are just happy and welcoming that they chose the Phil. As their 2nd home.
You often hear "hey Joe" from pilipino
the subtitles in tagalog are horrible. stop using it. please. grammar is wrong, usage of words are wrong.
you would probably encounter some kids or some teens saying the N word(the one that ends with letter A, not R). hopefully you won't be offended as most of them are just trying to be cool by imitating what they see in movies, trying to sound like a cool gangster.
I am a filipino but working in other country and everytime i go home, i really can see the big difference. the bottomline is just respect other people and always ready to give help to others if you can
Bro what's up with the subtitle? 😂✌️we appreciate for the subtitle translations but only 50% (approx) of filipinos speak and understand tagalog, like some far flung areas, we do understood evrything that comes out of this cool dudes mouth😂
yeah even people in visayas and mindanoa understands english more than tagalog 😂😂😂
Just appreciate his effort with translation as you both said you understand English. Would you think it might benefit some viewers who’s not fluent in English. Cheers!
🤣🤣🤣😂😂
