Man, people really underestimate how hard it is to play Scott era drums. The endurance and sheer speed needed (especially for your right hand) is absolutely insane, especially when you're doing a whole setlist of songs like that. Especially considering that they played faster live, in about the 230 bpm range, nuts.
who cares? If anything this just shows how Travis would beat Scott in a drum-off, blindfolded and with one hand if he has too. Scott basically used one drum pattern with some slight variations for all of the songs. Travis changes it up not only between songs, but between different song segments as well.
I think that Scott Raynor was what early Blink needed. Fast, straightforward, no frills punk drumming that complimented the sound of the first two albums. Travis Barker was the kind of drummer Blink needed to push the band forward in terms of musical ability and songwriting skill. His more varied styles fitted the experimental nature of the untitled and Neighborhoods albums and the Dogs Eating Dogs EP. Raynor's style served the songs Barker's enhanced them.
Wasaga Backyard Wrestling Federation So I wasn't younger five years ago? Besides, I was referring to the earlier albums; which considering I was born in 94, I was definitely younger.
Travis Barker plays drum beats that sound complicated but they are really pretty easy to play. I think they sound gaudy and take away from the rest of the song. They don't really do anything to further the song along.
To all you bitching about Scott's drumming that is his style: Fast-paced, and straight to the point. That was fit for skate-punk (which Blink was doing before EOTS) Travis's drumming style is a more complex and hip hoppy which was perfect for the pop-punk sound.
Dude Ranch is honestly my most favorite album from blink-182. I can listen to it almost everyday and never get sick of it, I won't even skip a song on it either. Truly and blissfully the best album.

Blink was the fucking shit. Enema and Jacket are some really solid albums. Spent lots of time drumming on my desk, school bus, steering wheel, everywhere.
I helped Travis Barker setup some practice drums on the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship which he uses to get over to Europe post-crash. Got to chat with him got a few minutes too since I was the drummer on board. Cool guy! Great drummer.
I was in 7th grade when enema of the state came out. It was the first CD that I ever owned and really got me into the wide spectrum of the “rock” genre. Still to this day I rock it and TOYPAJ. This video, from the music, to the skateboards and posters on the wall, really took me back. The nostalgia is real. Glad I stumbled across this. Great video man!!
absolutely epic! I have no idea how you put these all together. The level of work, planning, syncing up bpms, rehearsing, editing, it's absolutely insane! Bravo!
So to all the people saying "Travis is an ok drummer" and that he plays the same beat over and over, what drummer would YOU recommend? This should be fun.
mjamison77 If you are comparing him with Bonham, Peart & Moon, why are you even in this conversation? So Tre Cool doesn't play the same way as Barker? And why did you even bother putting Ringo Starr in there, now I know you're out of your head. Whatever..
literally the only drummers you can compare him to are punk rock drummers really, or similar styles, for me the only one that comes close to travis, and only cus he plays so well, is tre, if i was to go for drummers in general who break the mould a bit then for me one of the greats will always be the rev, but just my opinion
First of all Great Job. Second of all, I must say, Scott Raynor was a fucking great drummer and I don't doubt he could have kept up with Travis back in the day.
smashinghum it's repetitive as fuck the drums at least. I love all their albums but that album has nothing knew, basically the same as any other skate punk album in that Era, lag wagon, Millencollin, etc
i wasn't speaking of "technical ability" of the album, i was just saying historically speaking I believe, as others, Dude Ranch may be the best one from end to end... i always thought of Enema being the best, but as time has gone on, my opinion has changed.
Not trying to start that same ol' debate, but Dude Ranch is not their best album. Lyrically, musically and as an overall product, Blink 182 reflects their best work. You may say Dude Ranch is the best from their simplest, more "skate-punky" era, but come on, it gets beaten in every other aspect by the eponymously titled.
Although this is awesome, you are missing a total of 11 songs off of Cheshire cat and dude ranch combined. Also you are missing the entire album of Buddha (even though most of the songs are in Cheshire cat)
I know I am a simple man I really enjoy watching the kick drum and the diff ways you use the pedal to recreate some double kick with a single kick jus blows my mind
Man, people really underestimate how hard it is to play Scott era drums. The endurance and sheer speed needed (especially for your right hand) is absolutely insane, especially when you're doing a whole setlist of songs like that. seriously scott is amazing and he really rounded up the early ninties blink sound
scott is fucking insane. dude is so overshadowed by travis
Right dude! scoot is monster in live
am i the only one who drum covers carousel and pathetic at least 5 times a day?
Exactly, thats why there are so little covers of cheshire and dude ranch songs on youtube
holy shit, the transition between Raynor and Barker is so insanely noticeable. so awesome
IKR!!!!
One of them has some variation.
TheTachy0n still not punk (travis)
who cares? If anything this just shows how Travis would beat Scott in a drum-off, blindfolded and with one hand if he has too. Scott basically used one drum pattern with some slight variations for all of the songs. Travis changes it up not only between songs, but between different song segments as well.
Max van Deurzen Yeah, he's done a solo with one of his hands broken too so it's confirmed Travis can go one handed haha!
Exactly. I hate when people just focus on arguing about which one is better. They were both great for different reasons.
But its not the same with matt and tom
dude, your comment was beautiful👌
You said it best brother
I prefer Scott.
The skateboards, the NOFX posters, etc make me so nostalgic. I miss the whole pop punk era.
I'll 2nd that
the "Punk against Bush" poster hits hard on so many levels
Apparently I listened to way more Blink-182 when I was younger than I thought. I knew every single song.
Garrett Johnsen even though the last songs only came out 5 years ago.

Travis Barker plays drum beats that sound complicated but they are really pretty easy to play. I think they sound gaudy and take away from the rest of the song. They don't really do anything to further the song along.

You are correct, he didn’t play with blink-182. This dude isn’t Scott Raynor.

Travis' thought process: "I'm going to be creative as fuck."

Sorry for the incredibly late reply, this is a good one. The call for Scott about an ultimatum was what could've made Scott a better guy at drumming.
You should do one for Green Day
Blink 182 is my favorite band. This is fucking great!
That transition from Feeling This into Obvious was sick!!
dude your snare sounds amazing. loved this video in and out
Lol I love that I know every single one of their songs, I fucking love Blink! Come back Tom, please :(
I really like your green day posters !
well... at least raynor can feel good that he drummed blink's best album
smashinghum it's repetitive as fuck
the drums at least.
You may say Dude Ranch is the best from their simplest, more "skate-punky" era, but come on, it gets beaten in every other aspect by the eponymously titled.
your saying the self title was their best work..?
Man, this was awesome. Thanks for taking me back. This is what I grew up to playing the drums. Awesome!
Bro this actually so dope
This is brilliant!
I havnt heard these guys in donkeys ages!!! Thankyou:)
This is totally cool.
Although this is awesome, you are missing a total of 11 songs off of Cheshire cat and dude ranch combined. Also you are missing the entire album of Buddha (even though most of the songs are in Cheshire cat)
You know this is old when you realize this was made near the end of Tom's time with the band...
seriuosly impressed with Kye's drumming. Quick timing changes handled amazingly!!! Loving the chronolgy series!! Keep up the amazing work!
I know I am a simple man I really enjoy watching the kick drum and the diff ways you use the pedal to recreate some double kick with a single kick jus blows my mind
You're a beast.
@kye smith can you please do a Fugazi chronology? thanks
YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS
do a Scott Raynor cover of Josie
You just brought me back to my childhood with this one. Thank you.
The best Drummer of TH-cam
dude you should do the dead kennedys!
HUGE difference between travis's and scott's drumming style. travis is so much better
+TheDrummingPenguin
Travis is a hell of a lot faster than Scott.
Yeah Scott was all thrasher and Travis is way more technical
+Johnny Swanström Travis is more technical, but Scott will never be beaten for pace
I like Scott the best... I like real punk music. Not trying to get in a "what is punk or not" debate, but I prefer more "aggressive" styles of music.
***** And I like it better.
damn this shit blew my mind, ure awesome
Anyone else just realize how much you just love Blink? I always have and this just makes you realize how good you already knew they were!
Also the transition between dude ranch and enema was awesome and my fave transition between albums!
Why there's not I'm sorry in Dude Ranch ?
Lauti Ibañez Or Lemmings!!!
Or waggy
make a sum 41 video chronology
DAMN... dude..! awesome! :D
but where is the buddha album? :D
all the songs were remade, I believe. So putting Buddha on here would be pointless
haha ok, maybe! But there are also some different songs on buddha... but yeah its quite the same as cheshire cat :D ;)
I watched your 5 minute cover maybe a year after it was out! Didn’t realise this was you!! Still killing it man
Come back every year to see this... legend
People shitting on Scott for being a one note drummer, let's not forget Mutt was his drumming.
Thanks man 🤘🏼
The little fill at the beginning of the Enema version was Travis tho and that’s the part everyone brings up
Bro u need to redo this when nine comes out
Every time someone says blink weren't punk I show them this
I love the Blink-182 songs and albums. : )
That was amazing. Ive played drums for 29years - that was an awesome mash up of some f***in choice cuts. Really well executed.
