I don't even want to play "drums" after watching Travis, I just want to pick up a pad and go back to basics, while focusing on the details. A lot of drummers don't enjoy playing on a pad, because it's "boring." But something about Travis just takes that all away. He always inspires me to almost "start over." Again, going back to the basics, and building from the ground up. He's a gigantic inspiration to myself, and so many other players. 🤘

When I was younger I was like that. Never wanted to do my rudiments. But yeah, it is what you make it. At some point, when I decided to take it more seriously, it felt really rewarding to see progress on the pad. Which in turn made me want to do pad work even more. Then the cycle of self reinforcement begins and it becomes as rewarding as playing on a kit.

Travis has a style that he completely owns, his individual fill style is always dynamic and musical. On the Willow song Grow Travis starts the song with a drum fill that no one else is able to play. He's a gifted drummer who keeps evolving. The essence of Blink-182 sound and a drummer who is able to connect with so many other artists with a positive outcome. Has to be up in the top 5 rock drummers who are currently playing. Definitely in a top 10 list of great rock drummers. If he's inspired by Animal well let's make hime No 1 drummer ever.

It is just so funny how much better Travis is at his instrument then Mark and Tom, but you put all 3 of them together and that's what makes them Blink. I play guitar because of Tom, and wish I could play the drums like Travis but you gotta be realistic with your skills haha.

Mark is an amazing song writer and Tom has a really unique voice so they really bring their own strengths to it. The fact that the drumming is the most musically complex part really works because you can't really have overly complicated harmonies or melodies in punk rock. Adding a layer of depth to the drums elevates the songs without taking away their 'punk-ness'.

@@baltimorebjj so very true! blink just wasn't blink before Travis. He elevated both the other goons in ways no one else possibly could have.
Travis is the first drummer I discovered who actually brought the fact that drummers could be musicians too... It wasn't just about being loud, fast, and keeping time.
He truly plays the kit like an instrument, which is more than could be said of most drummers. I think a lot of drummers are too focused on rhythm, and tend to color in the lines musically.
Unpacking his style opened my ears to an entire world of music there's no way I would have found otherwise.

This is such an awesome interview because it shows how dedicated and passionate Travis is to our instrument the drum kit. Always reaching, always growing, he inspires me to love working hard as much as playing live. Great video as always, Drumeo!

I'll always remember how stoked my drum teacher was on Travis Barker when I was growing up. He LOVED to dissect songs, write 'em out and teach me them because of how talented Travis was. Travis's fundamental understanding of rudiments is what makes him a fantastic drummer. Favorite "rudimentary" song for me: Always. That opening on rim/ride is so good. Awesome to see Travis on the channel, especially in a personal setting like this on practice pads. I saw blink on their self-titled album tour as a teenager - not only was it was my first concert experience, but Travis came out on a rotating drum pedestal in the crowd for an extended solo which absolutely killed. Will never forget it. Saw them earlier this year, and they sounded even better. He has so many creative drum parts in his catalogue and it’s exciting to see him active across different new artists’ projects in recent years.

Blink never really resonated with me growing up, but back then I didn't realize the chops Travis had. Seeing these interview/demos years later has opened my eyes. On recordings he seems to tastefully play to the song, but it would be interesting to see him do some egregious over-playing on something. Has Travis done any particular albums or projects like that?
