It’s great to see you taking care of such a maligned beast. I’ve ridden motorbikes for 40 years. The 7 has always been the biggest head turner. They look gorgeous & go like stink when well fettled. A bit on the heavy side, but superb handling. My 7 has got me out of many a sticky situation…😂
@@tomsworkshopprojects Good man. My first bike was an RD350ypvs. It was quite a shock after passing my test. The acceleration was unbelievable until I got used to it. Now I take my 7 out when I need a refresher of how precious life is. It always makes me laugh😂
I always wanted a set of 3 spoke Dynag wheels for mine, but never had the money. Nice colour choice on your standard ones - much better than the green.
Thanks! Yeah, nothing makes Dymags more appealing than lugging the heavy stock wheels around the garage 😂 cheers, I think so too, I think they’ll work nice against the green bodywork and the brushed frame.
Top class work! The further along you go the easier you make this stuff look. For reasons that I cannot fathom, I have a deep seated phobia about replacing bearings so it's quite inspiring to see you tackle them with such apparent ease. Great vid as usual, can't wait for the next installment.
Sweet!! Rolling chassis is always a great milestone! That lift is pretty bad-ass too...the forks turned out great and this thing is going to be back on the road before you know it.
Cheers Ken, yeah it felt really good. This fork drama really tested me at times, so to have this moment has put a spring back in my step. Feels like I can really commit bench space back to the engine top end work now too.
Thanks mate! It’s water based, currently using “No Nonsense Degreaser” from screwfix. But I think I’ll be switching back to Swarfega Jizer soon as I found it a bit better
Wheel colour is good but I used Black electrostatic as other colours were not available. The rear axel nut; Buy a new chrome plated one! There seemed to be a good amount of movement as you tightened the sprocket nuts; are you sure that the cush drive rubbers are really still good? Otherwise I continue impressed with your methods. Richard
Cheers Richard, I did see the chrome ones but I think I prefer the black, I’m always keen to keep original parts if I can too. The Cush drive rubbers are probably slightly worn, but they weren’t failing or cracking. I did these wheels last summer and have since seen how cheap new rubbers are, so I may replace them when I get the wheels balanced. Finish line still feels a while away 😂
Hi Mate, I got them done at the same time as the subframe and if I remember correct it was about £250 for the blasting and powder coat for all of it. Their website currently says £174 for a pair of wheels if that helps!
Hi Tom, do you know what the colour was called they used to replicate the cosmic grey, they look spot on, so many different shades of grey and black out there i wouldn't know what one to pick for my wheels, thanks john.
Hi John, That's a great question, I've had a rummage for the invoice but can't see it, so I'll reach out to the blasters to get a copy as I'm pretty sure they listed the colour on there. If so I'll let you know!
for bearings and seals go to bearing/seal supplier same bearings and seals that Kawasaki use and car manufacturers and cheaper because it dont say Kawasaki or BMW on the box, use genuine Kawasaki gaskets for engine build
I actually think it’s going to end up a mix of the official schemes. I can’t see any silver frame models that had black wheels with green bodywork. But just found the green or purple wheels a bit “much” 😂
Probably not for a while, I’d definitely like to keep it for a few years, but I don’t have a lot of space, so it may be necessary one day if I want another project 😂
😂 Editing footage from both last week and last summer sure highlights how long it’s taking. I’m optimistic 1 video a month is doable for the engine stuff though🤞

I agree, I’ve never had much of a taste for modern bikes, but this bike really feels like the peak of the era I love.

Great work Tom. Looking forward to the next one 👍🏻
Gracias por tu saviduria igual estamos restaurando un motor igual
Must be soooo satisfying to roll that out into the sunshine. Great progress, and well done Tom!
Thanks! Yeah it was really nice, very motivating for sure!
Fantastic series. Love the ZX7 and also the ZXR 750. Currently riding a Triumph Street Triple 675 now with 51k on the clock and still going strong.
Good progress, wheels look nicer in the cosmic grey and great choice in tyres too, I done 6k miles on a set of those on my 9r.
That wheel color is perfect.
Good job...cant wait to see she running on the road...
As per other comments. Great work method, oh yeah, them 7R's are a beautiful bike. Thanks for sharing. Appreciated.

Great job Tom!
I plan to do the same on my SRAD 600 this winter. I want it to look as it is brand new, such beatiful bikes those from '90-2000!
Cheers! Yeah, it’s definitely the golden years for beautiful bikes!

Cheers mate! I still feel like it could go either way with bearings to be honest 😂 these all went quite well though!

Brilliant.
Nice work Tom, as per usual..👏
Can I ask what solvent you use in your parts cleaner?
Is it water based or petroleum based?
Thanks mate.

Pleased you put the wheels back to the correct colour 👍😎🙂
Much more to my taste!
40th edition color?

Will you be willing to sell the ZX7 when you’re complete?
Probably not for a while, I’d definitely like to keep it for a few years, but I don’t have a lot of space, so it may be necessary one day if I want another project 😂
@@tomsworkshopprojects Ok, fair enough. I’d be interested if you decided to sell. Great job on the project.
That’s an imperial shit-ton, not a metric shit-tonne.
😂 oh yeah, a long shit-ton in fact.
