2003 Polaris Genesis here. Thanks for the video. Good reminder, I had this happen before. My boat wouldn't turn over it would just crank and crank and never fire. I beat on the starter relay with the back of a socket wrench and that must have loosened it up, and it started right up. I think a new starter relay will be in my future tho.

Awesome vid. I have a 1994 Sea Doo SPX and can't find a replacement shut off button. I can only find the large red generic rubber piece but it is too big and doesn't fit to allow the engine kill switch to fit below. Any advice? Cheers

I have 2 Kawasaki ultras 2014
1 works fine after being stored over the winter.The other 1 won’t even register the key with a good battery.
I’m going to clean the battery cables and hope that works. Could you tell me what you’d check next?

We recommend inspecting the inner portion of your electrical box and ensuring everything is connected properly and nothing is damaged.
You can also inspect your DESS probe installed on ski and ensure there is no corrosion. It’s likely related to an interruption in electrical connection…Keep us posted.

I have a 1997 Polaris, SL 700 no spark, but if I press and hold the bilge pump button while starting I’ll have spark any idea what this could be?

So I have (2) 2023 spark trixx 3 ups I bought at the same time. They both have about 9 hours on them and I’ve had them for four months, my friend was riding one on Sunday and said he was going about 22mph when it just cut off. So he tells me. I put the same gas in both of them in the morning so probably not fuel. I tried both keys with no luck, still a crank no start. My closest seadoo dealer is 2 hours away. Being new skis I’m wondering if there’s something simple I can check before I load it up and go to the dealer. Thanks in advance

We would start with performing a system reset by disconnecting black negative cable from battery and leaving disconnected for a minimum of 5 minutes. Some leave disconnected for 30 minutes.
After that, re-connect cable to battery and start engine. It’s likely that your ski is in limp-mode which is a built-in safety configuration.

I’ve been an ase certified auto technician for 31 years, but unfortunately I’m new to JETSKIs so I’m not familiar with the way everything works. I know when a car goes into limp mode it still runs, but with reduced power, anyway I’ll let you know what I find and I will post a youtube video to help the community in the future

We appreciate the follow up. If in limp mode, the onboard computer sensed something it didn’t like and configured itself into limp mode to protect other systems that would actually be affected in a negative way at high power settings.
Could be as simple as low oil, low fuel, or something else.

Hey how can I reset the maintenance request light on?
New battery and power is great but I just get a single loud 'clunk' when i hit the start button. Could that be what it sounds like if starter is out? Or is that more of a 'frozen' engine. Thanks!
Thanks for watching, a frozen engine would be no fun. Hopefully it’s either a faulty Starter Relay or the Starter.
We would start with the relay, and we highly recommend purchasing OEM relay.
have you checked the battery with a voltage drop test. very easy to do if you have a multimeter.

Awesome video! Question tho!? I have a 2017 Yamaha wave runner VX limited replaced spark plugs and did the gap on them but it turn over no start but once I spray some starter fluid it turn on just fine. Could it be the fuel injectors ?

98 seadoo gts it started in the drive way and tried to start on boat ramp but won’t start now, plugs fire when I test them but won’t fire inside the ski. Bad gas or do you think it’s the push button or starter relay?

An old battery can cause this however if battery is newer and fully charged, the starter relay is the next part to replace.

Battery is about a year old along with the starter. But the starter turns over just fine. I’m gonna get a spark plug checker and new fuel filter for it too. But if that’s not it then I’ll be getting that part

I have a 2006 Seadoo GTI that ran well, sat for 2 months and wouldn’t start. I replaced the battery, and still nothing. When I put the key in, the screen might flash on but immediately cuts off. Beeps for about 2 seconds, then gives 4 consecutive beeps every 10 seconds or so. No LCD feedback. Any ideas?
What’s up Adrian, any update? How many volts is your battery showing? It’s best to have over 12v’s prior to engine start.
4-beeps can also be triggered when the engine is stuck in a position outside of FWD/Neutral/REV…which may be as simple as you moving the shifter back and forth a few times to get it back in a safe configuration for start.
Another possibility is a corroded DESS post or key…which may require a friendly cleaning to work again. Keep us posted.

My 2002 seadoo GTX DI starts and it dies within seconds. Maintenance light comes on. Seems is in limp mode, how can i reset it. Last year it was tip over and i believe after that incident it started to act up and now will not idle.

Thanks for watching, any update? By chance is the engine shaking or knocking after it starts? The reason we ask is because it’s possible…however unlikely…that your Knock-Sensor is detecting knock and immediately shutting engine down.
If that’s not the case, you may want to carefully disconnect battery, followed by disconnecting each connection point from your MPEM one at a time and leaving disconnected for 1 minute.

I have a 1997 GTX
I put the Killswitch cap on it sometimes it will show on sometimes it wont.
It is now blinking maintenance.
When I push the start button nothing happens no clicking or anything.

I have a Yamaha WaveBlaster 2, I don't know wether to look into the CDI or starter relay. I insert the safety key and hit the green start button and the motor won't even attempt to crank over. Checked battery it's new and full so question is what do you think I should check into first ? NEW CDI OR STARTER RELAY ? And what does the power from the start switch go through first does it go straight to starter relay then CDI or CDI then to starter relay ? Any recommendations would be great. Thanks.

So I have found with the battery in that starter relay is gd according to the multimeter. I am digging into the kill switch on the start stop switch now. Hoping it's the switch honestly, the CDI is $ 300.00 bucks and not very available. Only found 3 distributors that can get it. Not so sure I would want to use a used one so I don't have to do it again. Thanks for the help and I'll def keep you all informed.

Well bad news for me is it is not the switch either. I have completely toar the switch apart, checked all the springs, leads and reassembled it. I'm getting continuity through the switch. So all that's left it can be is the CDI so I'm gonna get one ordered and get that replaced. Ita gonna take a cpl weeks but I'll keep you informed. Any one got any inside leads on getting a NEW decent priced CDI replacement ? Everything I have found new is 300.00 to 350.00 not including shipping cost.

Mine is a hard start condition. I crank it for about 30 seconds before it will start. Once it starts it runs amazing until I get to full throttle it likes to cut in and out. Any ideas?

Good morning ☕️ any update? Possible that you are experiencing a slow-down in fuel flow or fuel pressure.
It can be that your fuel injectors are a bit gunked up and needing to be cleaned or replaced.
Also, we can’t rule out worn out spark plugs and wires. Keep us posted. 🧰
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders so I took the fuel hose off and put the key in. I have solid fuel flow but it’s kinda just coming out like how water would come out of the hose with no nozzle. Long story short it doesn’t look or feel like the 107psi it should be

Awesome, that alleviates the fuel blockage or low pressure. Any update?
We would direct our attention to the ignition system next. Possible weak ignition coils, plugs, or wires and boots.
These items being weak will create the symptoms of a misfire or degraded engine performance at high rpm.

2007 wakerunner no start start stall Well took out plugs and they are old by the stain on the porcelain seadoo forms change super charge unit every 10-15 hours and was gonna chekc the compression but need a different 12 mm adapter which I would have to order . They say 140 good compression . Well I had a plug blaster and the plugs to begin with were not black like I though they would be so cleaned put back in same no start . So I took coil out and was able to take off its little insulator and held coil electrode near bracket and want to see how well the spark jumps and if it is blue spark . Well it barely spark fully charged battery . So if a set of plugs doesn't do it I'm gonna have to find seadoo shop and let them look at it .

A few things can cause this as mentioned in the video. Kinda sounds like the fuel system is activating once DESS key is connected…and priming the engine with fuel and allowing it to start…but then it runs out of fuel pressure or delivery…🤔
Another cause can be a vacuum leak or faulty vacuum solenoid. Below are two videos discussing more about that.

2009 Seadoo GTI started just fine but after an hour riding it, switched drivers and press the start button and it attempts to crank for 1/2 a second then stops? 12Volts on the new battery (
No it doesn’t but you will do it completely by feel…. Get a mirror as it is near bottom of engine and will help get an idea of what your feeling and the 2 bolts that hold starter.

I have a 2008 kawasaki stx and it shit off at random points while riding when i catch air from wake but after riding it for about 10 minutes i left it at the dock turned off and when i went to turn it back on it just kept cranking never turning over after trying for about 5 minutes

The good thing is that it’s attempting to crank which tells us that your Starter and Starter Relay is still good.
It’s possible that the engine is not getting fuel. Do you here the fuel pump turn on when you connect DESS key?
I got a good one for ya. Me and my son have been working on this freebee for several months. '93 Kawasaki 750 ss. Ran good a higher rpm. Back on idle after 30 sec. would die and not start without starting fluid. Rebuilt carb and replaced everything. All new fuel pickup tubes in the tank and pretty much everything else. ( $$$) A local dealer had replaced all the fuel lines with the new ones earlier. So there was only one thing to look at or replace. The fuel selector valve. And that was the culprit. The dealer mechanic had crossed 2 of the fuel hoses on the valve. After changing the hoses to the correct position, it runs like it should. Starts right up in a millisecond every time. Even after several stops and starts just works like a million bucks. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the follow up. Once you connect key to ignition, do you hear the fuel injection system turn on and prime engine? If you don’t, it’s likely that your fuel control module is faulty.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders hey just a follow it was actually a faulty battery. It must’ve sat for too long so I replaced it with a nice $180 gel based battery and it starts up every time.
I also replaced spark plugs and did 4 oil changes to flush water out of the oil because there was an improper water hose test done to it.
I also had to drain some water out of the spark plug cylinders

2001 SeaDoo 951DX. Put the key on the post, get the beeps, and then the fuel pump just continues to run. No crank with the start stop button pressed, but I can jump the starter relay, and it starts. Won’t get full throttle, and after turning it off, it won’t restart for 20 to so minutes. Also “maintenance” flashes on the screen. Thought’s anyone?
Thanks for watching, you came to the right place. Sounds like your ski is in limp mode…which is a safety protection mode that decreases the allowable acceleration to prevent damage to engine while other parts are faulty.
It may be as simple as replacing your starter relay and reconnecting battery and starting engine.
If your starter relay was faulty prior to replacing it, the new one will send the proper signals to your MPEM and disengage limp mode.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders WOW, thanks Mike for the quick reply! The limp mode sounds plausible, and since the starter relay, we did replace the battery and rode it. Seems to still be in limp mode though.

Awesome. Try disconnecting battery for 5 minutes which will allow your system to reset.
If that doesn’t help, you may need to carefully disconnect each of the large plastic connectors feeding into your MPEM followed by re-connecting them…this is also a reset procedure.
It’s unlikely however are you using your normal DESS key or your yellow key? Yellow is programmed for reduced acceleration “limp mode” only.
I have 1995 seadoo, it doesn’t start on its own when we jumpstart it, it will, but after it won’t stay on, changed and charged the battery but still the same. Any ideas?

How old is battery…?…if older than 3 years…we recommend installing a new battery.
If battery is still less than 3 years old, you may have a faulty Rectifier/Voltage Regulator. Below is a link to our video showing replacement of this part.

Good video. I don't get this channel though. Video is 2 days old with only 83 views yet the channel has 130K subscribers. That's a lot of subs for only 83 views. How can that be? Is this what happens when youtube "shadow bans" channels. Just curious. I watched some of the other videos and they were excellent as well.

Hey i got the low 12volt message on my gtx limited 99 when im trying to start it.Putt in a brand new battery freshly charged and i still get low 12volt message? i can hear the relay click.The jetski ran great last season butt the low 12volt message came up a couple of times when starting up. Anyone got any idea?

What a pain in the ass to replace the starter! You pretty much have to take out all parts or take out entire engine to get to the bottom where thr starter is!

Sea Doo is the brand of jet ski, calling every jet ski a sea Doo would be like calling every car a Chevy.
Dude a jetski is a model on personal watercraft made by Kawasaki so you are calling everything a chevy already

I never owned a jet ski before this is the first time I have a 2002 SeaDoo bombardier with a stop and start button.. how does the fuel pump come on before engine start?
Thanks for watching, sounds like you have a Direct Injection (DI) engine.
Once you connect DESS key to DESS post, it activates the fuel pump to properly prime engine with fuel prior to engine start.

Thanks for the reply. You do indeed. You may have a blown fuse down inside electrical panel inside hull…that’s very common.

I have a seadoo gtx that starts but then shuts off almost immediately. Worked fine for a couple days in the water then on the last day of the trip it started doing this. Any ideas ?
Thanks for watching, any update? Once engine starts, do you notice any unusual shaking or knocking with engine.
Its possible…however unlikely…that your Knock-sensor is detecting a mechanical knock and immediately shutting engine down.

@@DIYwithMichaelBordersspark plugs but again it ran fine for 2 full days it’s didn’t start doing this until the 3rd day at the beginning. All we did that day was fuel it up

Thanks for the reply. Maybe contaminated fuel…it’s rare to run into that however we can’t rule it out.
