Awesome video Brian. Very to the point, simple and easy to understand. A lot of people are afraid to get into pc gaming when they see RGBs, liquid cooling, huge GPUs and all the costs. This is a great way to get into pc gaming if you've never done it before.
Your Video helps me so much, I was given an old Optiplex 7010 and have used it for some time, quite impressed at the way it runs completely stock besides windows 10 being installed on it. I wanted to Upgrade it to play more and run more as I am an artist and my programs would benefit significantly from this and my occasional gaming as well. We seem to be running the same system besides the internals of my PC being a little different, I have a huge power supply that takes up the entire lower end of the stealth case. The fan id is different too as it's one of those console-looking fans that are completely encased. Anyhow I wanted to say thank you and if you have any advice on what I should do I would love to hear it, Also thank you for showing and talking about the cloning option, I find few talks about it and fewer explain how to, I'm kind of a dummy when it comes to technical computer stuff so people like you help me more then people know.
Can't wait for mine. Just ordered this along with a 250 gb hdd, 4gb ram, mouse and keyboard, 19' 720p monitor for $90. This is basically what my upgrades are going to be. So in essence it's a prebuilt upgrade rather than a build but you can't beat the price altogether. These are amazing computers for upgrades.
Anyone watching this keep in mind, the 7010 is more commonly known, used, and upgraded, but if you’re buying a 7010, buy the 9010 instead so that you can add 32gb of ram as opposed to 16gb. Hope this could help anyone!
I have the same system. For anyone that wants to upgrade the PSU, it uses the TFX format and the motherboard has the standard 24 pin main power and 4 pin CPU power connections. They can be upgraded but trying to find something of decent quality can be a challenge. I was able to track down a 300w Seasonic 80+ Bronze and it works without issue.
I did something similar last year before going abroad for work. I'm temporarily working abroad and was wondering what to take with me to be able to have decent setup for work/Intermet/movies and also for occasional light gaming. I had to leave behind my huge set up for time being. Gaming Laptop would be ideal but costs a bit, and I was trying to go as cheap as possible. This is why I got used DELL Optiplex 9010 SFF with i5-3470 (and sticker win7 Pro - Updated to Win10), added some RAM now it has 12GB, got ZOTAC GTX1050Ti LP (you cannot use MSI GTX1050Ti as it is too long and power plug is in the way, you can use Gigabyte instead), 240GB SSD + 1TB HDD. SSD is concealed in special CDROM/HDD caddy (costs really cheap) with nice faceplate so you can't see there is no DVDROM. Got on Aliexpress special hard drive caddy for 2x 2.5” HDDs as shown on the video so I can have for example 2x1TB HDDs if the need arises beside SSD. Yes, you can have total 3 HDDs in this machine or 2 HDDs + DVDROM - with this adapter. My Dell didn’t have a speaker so I got it separately directly from DELL for only £3 so it can have basic sound - nothing special just using it for listening to news, normally using BT headphones. Overall, I'm very pleased with performance - I know this is temporarily set up but I can play any game with decent FPS - Witcher 3. FC5, RE2, Assassins Creed, Dishonored 2, Kingdom Come, Latest TRs, even Metro Exodus works super good on this machine - graphics maybe aren’t on Ultra but in many games are on high/medium. The only problem is that when playing the video card gets very loud... Many people are wondering if the PSU (has only 240W) can cope with video card, I can assure anyone that there are no problems whatsoever... I played hours and hours of AAA games and there are no signs of slightest failure - works solid.
For those worry power supply problem, I have optiplex 7010 DT, the psu is original 240w, no worry it can support gtx 1050ti mini without problem, plug, install driver then cool to go
As an FYI, with the latest firmwares, I was able to put 32Gb (8Gbx4) into my bad boy. (BIOS version A19 wouldn't work, but an upgrade to A29 made it work. Another thread mentions A21 works as well. So I would imagine atleast BIOS versions A21 to A29 support 32Gb (Despite Dell saying 8 Gb total is the max)

I recently did something very similar on an Optiplex 3010 SFF Put in an MSI 1050ti low proile GPU and swapped Out the Core 2 Duo for an i7 3770 and upgraded from 2GB of Ram to 8GB, Makes a great media center PC.
I was going to upgrade a Dell Vostro 760s, but the power supply couldn't be upgraded, so I took the i5-2400 out of that machine, bought a Corsair 200R case, and got a P8Z77-V LX motherboard with a Corsair RM 550x PSU and a GTX 1050 and now I can be free to upgrade to whatever I want to upgrade. Later I plan to get a new Corsair case, a bigger one. Those Dell cases are so restrictive in what you can do to your machine.
I am planning to buy an SSD, but I am worried about how to install it, and buying that brand is my ideal choice. Thanks for the information you provided, I decided to go first to see OYUNKEY's 512gb SSD.
I went to see OYUNKEY's 512gb SSD in the US and found that there are promotions. Compared with other brands, it is much more affordable. Thanks to the author, I chose him.
Something of note is there is a way to get around that psu limitation on the SFF units. Rather than going with a regular or K model go with an S or T model CPU. Yes the base clocks are lower but they still have turbo and are still quite fast.
I did not make it into a gaming machine but I did buy one one ebay. I put in an SSD reinstalled windows and gave it to my girlfriends mother after her 2009 PC died. She loves it. Optiplex SFF 3010, 8 gb or ram for $90.00. I had the SSD from an old pc.

I have just bought one for around 50-60£ with a i3, 250gb hard drive and windows 10 pro planing to buy a 1050/1050ti low profile gpu to put inside after checking out this video, maybe change the hard drive for a ssd later when the budget is there
This is a great video. I have been looking to up grade my machine and didn't want to buy a new node since they become obsolete so quickly. Please do more like this with other brands.
Hey great video you inspired me to upgrade my old DELL desktop. If I am upgrading and have an old NVIDIA card in there should i uninstall the software prior to replacing the card?
@@Britec09 did you have to turn off secure boot in the bios menu f12 before installing the gpu? i had read you have to do this or your pc won't boot up with a new gpu installed.
Depends on the game. Fallout 4 is very heavy, requires CPU s well as GPU. GTX 1050 is a weakling. BTW, I went to 16 GB, its never used. Stick with 8 for now. Samsung SSD is the way to go though.
*_I have the same PC as this [optiplex 7010sff]. I use it for looking up stuff & also TH-cam/Netflix. I like how it looks & its small, neat size. I never had the money for an expensive PC, it took me a few weeks to save for a new SSD recently but i was blown away at how easy it was to clone & replace. The performance is amazing, booting up in less than 10 seconds. So now i'm wondering, must i get a graphics card. I am not a gamer. Besides what i just mentioned, ive only used what came in the PC when new. I ordered 8GB of DDR3 12800 [1600MHz] from CEX & when i got it the next day i noticed that besides the brand, Kingston, there was no other label on the sticks. So i installed & found they were actually 1333MHz. The CEX store is 10 mins away from me but i was working my butt off before the "lockdown" kicked in & since they deliver for free i decided i needed to get every hour in at work & have my parts delivered before non-essential stores closed, like CEX. Now i must wait til they open back up to have them replaced. In the meantime i have no option but to use them. Will i notice a difference when i get the correct DDR3 ram. In time i will be replacing my i3 cpu with the i5 or i7, depending on cost. These can ALSO be got from CEX. This is all new to me & thats why i get my bits from CEX. When i am confident enough to put a weeks wages into a piece of kit i will do so but i'm just learning as i go, ye know. Tnx a lot Britec09_*
Did this card need an additional connection to power like many other gfx cards? So tempting to get one of these off ebay and pop in a 1030 (cause I'm cheap).
@@Britec09 will a Dell Optiplex 3020 mini tower with a i5-4590 and a rx 560 itx card work or no? as i hear people online say the pcie slot wont give it enough power. i would appreciate your feedback, thanks
Most PC makers cheat on the power supply(cheap parts used inside it) and they are usually the first thing to burn out. Bottom line - Don't go cheap on the Power Supply, it might save your butt.
Hey Brian I really enjoyed this video! Very timely for me as I am on a tight budget and love saving money! But I appreciate the way you put all the links in the "Show More" section...I have followed you on TH-cam for years and always learn something NEW!!
if i did this and used the same graphics card as you, would you need to install drivers to replace my integrated graphics or does the computer do all the work?
I wish i had a GTX 980 with my i5 3470, my budget didn't allow me to get anything better than a Gigabyte GT 1030 OC. I am overclocking the card pretty heavily, It performs well with it, I can play GTA 5 at Very high settings, no distance scaling, no FXAA or MSAA, 1600X900. I average around 40 to 50fps.
Ricardo The PC Wizard yeah it does the job, which is a good thing as I can't afford to build fo the foreseeable future. I put it together in 2013 and it still doing the business. No need to OC just yet.👍
With the right equipment, can these builds push like 120 hz or higher ? ( without issues ) I would like to start a a build but with next gen consoles thinking 60z woukd not be a good build for pc . ( most vids seem to say its low settings 69 hz )
Can anyone recommend a cheaper GPU for the Optiplex 7010 ? Say 2 Gig instead. Trying to get that GPU price to under £50 2nd hand. I always find GPU choice daunting from a laypersons perspective.
Are you sure you put the memory in the correct slots? I think you've got two sticks of 2 in one channel and two sticks of 4 in the other channel, so you probably don't have dual channel working, and you may not even have all 12G available.
I bought a refurbished hp elite 8300 with a core i5 3rd gen quad core, and 8gb ram. I installed a Silicon Power A55 512gb SSD and a Gigabyte GT 1030 OC, also i am planning to put in another 4gb of ram. That PC works great, i am impressed with it. I understand about the power supply having a stupid designed motherboard plugin, but you can buy an adapter to make it work with an upgraded power supply.
the dell PSU and the fact that some of those HP limit power to the pcie makes the optiplex the better choice. if you look on gumtree and shpock you may get one cheaper than on ebay too. i got one from gumtree for 50 quid, i5 3570 version.
hi i have this dell model with an i7 3770 and 16 gb of ram with an ssd , i was hoping to add a low profile graphics card and get decent performance. I do video editing , obs stuff and also gaming and was thinking of putting in a graphics card so i can get around 144 fps on low settings on games like fortnite . Since i got this rig for free i 'm thinking of buying a budget graphics card like a 1050 ti or a rx570 so do you think it will workout for my requirements or should i just build a new pc?
Once again great tutorial. It would be nice if you went more in-depth about pc building and know-how and all that good stuff but no matter what just keep up the good work
If you were to just add the graphics card a nothing else would you be able to run most games 50fps plus? And also does it if I get a Gigabyte GeForce 1050 3GB graphics card?

Most PC makers cheat on the power supply(cheap parts used inside it) and they are usually the first thing to burn out. Bottom line - Don't go cheap on the Power Supply, it might save your butt.
Hey Brian I really enjoyed this video! Very timely for me as I am on a tight budget and love saving money! But I appreciate the way you put all the links in the "Show More" section...I have followed you on TH-cam for years and
always learn something NEW!!
You're welcome.
I have a 240 watts psu can i add a gt 1030 gpu? Will it have any issues? Also great video
if i did this and used the same graphics card as you, would you need to install drivers to replace my integrated graphics or does the computer do all the work?
I'm still using a i5 3570k with a 980 and it plays everything no problem.
Wait, my computer is a 3010 (not the wide one, but the thin one). Is it low-end? It's running quite fast for me.
1. Ready a hammer
2. Buy 2 8gb ram
3. Use hammer to destroy your pc
got a 7020 mt on ebay and a gtx 960 a bit better than the 1050 aswell as a new ssd for the pc
can you make a video on the basics of flashing a bios? i have a GA-H61N-USB3
I think I done a video on flashing BIOS
With the right equipment, can these builds push like 120 hz or higher ? ( without issues ) I would like to start a a build but with next gen consoles thinking 60z woukd not be a good build for pc . ( most vids seem to say its low settings 69 hz )
A 3770s cpu would be a great upgrade if you find one at a good price.
Yeah that would work in that machine.
Well done. Thanks for taking the time.
Great vid! Your channel is really useful.
Thanks
I tried this once but I put in a powerful Graphics card which required more power to run. And the PC used to shut itself down.
Maybe you used a normal graphics card? You need a low profile to run it in this PC
@@thelegend49 yes. It was an abomination. The lid was off had to buy a bigger power supply which wouldn't fit inside so I taped it.
Can anyone recommend a cheaper GPU for the Optiplex 7010 ? Say 2 Gig instead.
Trying to get that GPU price to under £50 2nd hand. I always find GPU choice daunting from a laypersons perspective.
I got a gt 1030
Gtx 1050 ti is nice but not affordable at the moment
How about the power supply can you upgrade it to 500 watts???
How about the power supply unit? Will it suffice once you install a better GPU?
Is the GTX 1050 Ti Low profile still working well on the 240W PSU? I have a GT 1030 and want to upgrade, also have a small form factor PC
Are you sure you put the memory in the correct slots? I think you've got two sticks of 2 in one channel and two sticks of 4 in the other channel, so you probably don't have dual channel working, and you may not even have all 12G available.
can you please share the link for the blue colored plastic SSD caddy which you used in the video?
thanks in advance
can you do a 2018/19 gaming pc build video? Thanks!
Coming soon
😒 chkout The Verge PC build, good stuff 👌😏
Sammy, that build was terrible
I dont really know why people don't like that video.
That's my thumbs down fan club, who like to silently thumb the video down, they are spineless trolls mate.
Nice upgrade on that old Optiplex. I have found them to be far less fussy with upgrades than the junk HP business model equivalents.
Yeah DELL PSU is pretty good as well i think.
I understand about the power supply having a stupid designed motherboard plugin, but you can buy an adapter to make it work with an upgraded power supply.
lance ripplinger HP alone sucks ass. Laptop overheats too quickly, bloatware taken to the next level
the dell PSU and the fact that some of those HP limit power to the pcie makes the optiplex the better choice. if you look on gumtree and shpock you may get one cheaper than on ebay too. i got one from gumtree for 50 quid, i5 3570 version.
Could it also support a 1650 video card? Thank you for the video
I dont think so
hi i have this dell model with an i7 3770 and 16 gb of ram with an ssd , i was hoping to add a low profile graphics card and get decent performance.
It would be nice if you went more in-depth about pc building and know-how and all that good stuff but no matter what just keep up the good work
I can do that, made videos on build a pc
Great video man! This is exactly what I will do with my computer!
omar khan did it work?
Can i play 16hours straight ? Every day ?
If you were to just add the graphics card a nothing else would you be able to run most games 50fps plus?
And also does it if I get a Gigabyte GeForce 1050 3GB graphics card?
Great video!I like your tutorials
Can we have a video doing this on an MT please? It would be very helpful thanks
That a nice upgrade solution but its not trustworthy because of psu. Psu quality is a lottery and you cant change it.
i got my 7010 for 80 usd with a i5 and 8gb of ram and a got a 250 gb hdd for 5 dollars and i plan to buy the gpu
Dancing Chiwawa how is it running games?

Thanks man! I actually had to sell a PC like that, because the GPU wouldn't fit. Can you run BF4 please?
Yes it will play battlefield 4 on max settings, probably get about 70fps to 80fps
Thanks man :D
I have a Dell optiplex 9070 something like that and it has i7 and 16 gigs ram already but it has only a 255 volts PSU so should I upgrade PSU too????
Only a 150 pounds for all that? I just bought the same Optiplex with an i7, 16 GB of RAM, and a 500 GB HDD for only $150. Guess I got a really good deal and just need to upgrade to an SDD and a new GPU.
Hey Brian awesome video

It would be interesting to see how the free game StalkerSoup works with it as my 970 card struggles with it, Brian. Thanks for your useful video. Regards, Jan.
is that machine can run 24/7 in mid to high range task?
Where my dad works they throw out pcs and he didn't grab any. God damn it even came with mouse and keyboard.
