Brilliant, easy to follow explanation of the process. I'm having this work done to my engine (Jeep 4.0) and sent this video to a friend to help him understand all the weird numbers I was shopping for.
@@oldschoolmechanic7771 I ended up needing to go 0.030 over on my engine too. I was really hoping for that 0.020 would have cleaned up the bore since the 258 crank has a stroke of 3.895 and a square bore engine would satiated my need for symmetry, but 0.010 over square is hardly noticeable. Tossed in some KB pistons, and now the engine is a 4.6L at 9.2:1 compression and a 68-232-4 camshaft.
Im curious about one thing, is a bore process to clean and smooth a cylinder port or can you also just use it bore out a bigger diamator for bigger pistons? Does that what makes the engine a race engine? Bigger pistons?
It is a foreign made machine I did not like that part of it but at the time I did not have the money to buy a van Norman or equivalent. The model number is T8014A
@@oldschoolmechanic7771 thanks, would you still recommend it then in case I cant find a used van Norman at a decent price? I'm just hobbyist shop but I'd like to be self sufficient and maybe build a dozen or so engines a year for sale to fund my addiction
LOL on the addiction. Yes It is a decent machine and I’ve used it more than once did build one 383 stroker motor with it and I also bore small engines with it to seem to be working just fine
Look on Alibaba Or just look around online I found this one in Miami Florida and at the time he said he had one machine left but he did not have the tooling that went with it

Thank you for saying so. Jeep 4.0 straight 6. Tough motor. One of the best built
Thank you. Glad I was able to help

Can you tell me the model of the boring bar machine you’re using so I can get one
Best to square the deck before boring off of it.
It’s not a final bore. Just seeing where I’m at to order the right parts
Do you index with the cats paws off the ridge on top or down at the bottom where there is also little wear? Great stuff!
+1
Wouldn’t you have to mess with the intake and exhaust too and not just the cylinder?
@@Daxbehne are you talking about the rebuild of the motor?
Would love to learn how to machine! However very nice job !!
Thank you. Always something new to learn with machining
What machine oil do you use
I have a kwik-way FT. This machine seems to be a exact copy.
It is a kwik way copy. Think the cutter arbor hole is different

Yes, the tool holder and plunger are different. Is micrometer the same on this machine you have.
This one is in metric readings
Very nice
Boa noite estau precisar 2machines de retificar bloco de mesa até Luanda Angola com transpoto e quantos
I couldnt see the mfg on that machine...looks like a better version of the van Norman 777?
It’s foreign made. I didn’t like that part of it but didn’t have the money to buy a van Norman at the time. The model number is T8014A

Where you located, I can't get nobody to bore my motors. I'm pist.

Woscup Nice week God bless you
Price of this machine
I gave $2500 for it and it came out of Miami Florida
Got mine for $150.00 from an estate sale.
How many Thousands of a inch do you leave for honing?
I usually stop about .004 away from final size.
