Morgue's Case is DOA: The Bible Proclaims Jesus' Deity

  • In this video, I respond to Morgue's video "The Bible Says Jesus is NOT God" and debunk his claims that the Bible says that Jesus never claims to be God. I examine the context of the verses Morgue uses to support his claim and explain how they often actually affirm Jesus' divinity. I also examine Morgue's dubious use of the Gnostic Christians and their texts and how he gets basic facts about early church history wrong.

Morgue is a pretty good example of a "well-informed" Atheist. Right at the beginning Morgue only gives half-truths and misinformation about the flood, making it seem as if God just flooded the world on a whim, just to be mean, not regretfully, and only because men were doing evil. Morgue even forgot to mention God spared Noah, his wife, his sons, and their wives, which is a rather important detail. I guess Morgue learned the flood history from another Atheist.

@@fcastellanos57 Maybe this is not quite what you mean, but even in Genesis we already see a Person Who is God refer to God in the third person, indicative of God being more than one Person. (See below, Genesis 22:11-12, taken from the KJV. Emphasis on the word ''me'' is mine, and not present in the original text.)
''And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham,
Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad,
neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou
hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from *me*. ''
I do not see how 1 Corinthians requires me to conclude that God is not triune.
The analogy between God's Spirit and our spirit falls short, I think, as our spirit cannot act any other way than through us, and the Holy Spirit can act through e.g. the Apostles (who are great, but not God), leading Paul to attribute miracles to the Spirit of God, rather than simply to God. This is seen in Romans 15:19:
''Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.''

"Jesus said he is not God (Luke 18:19)". -A Muslim argument which takes the passage out of context.
He didn't even get the context of Bart Erhman right. It is clear that he is taking a bunch of arguments he's heard from here, there, and yonder against Christianity, did no research into the context that was ignored by promoters of that argument, and then just put them all together. If somebody's video is built up of arguments taken out of context, then it's not a good case for what they're arguing. It's getting to the point that the bad arguments made by atheists and Muslims (and even sometimes Jews) make the truth of Christianity all the more apparent.

Then, their followers act like somehow this is some kind of well researched source and pretend that because it's on a video on TH-cam, it's definitely true.
Contrast that with what Erik does on his channel. Well informed and thoroughly crafted arguments with sources and citations and references throughout. This is what it takes to attack the faith; if you are relying on historical and scriptural facts, you can't get very far. They believe in the Scriptures in a way that is entirely opposite the early wild heresies that the arheist guy was talking about and supposed book burnings.
In a lot of ways they are like Christians but misunderstand the Scriptures that we agree on.

I'm writing a book on this very subject called, "IS JESUS CHRIST REALLY THE EVERLASTING GOD OF THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS?"
In witnessing to followers of many cults and denominations over 35 years, God has given me ample opportunity to exposit all of the Scriptures I knew of (approximately 40-50) that clearly denote or allude to the Deity of Christ.
How nice it would have been, i always thought, if I'd been able to just pull out a handy reference guide listing EVERY place in the Bible that spells out who Jesus is. But since I don't live in an ideal world, I had to settle for what I had.
I had just finished producing a church bulletin-sized booklet for Muslims showing all of the verses that say He is the Son of God. "Is Jesus Christ REALLY the Son of God?" was the name of it.
Curiously, a Christian lady at the copy store where I was running the booklet off viewed the title with some suspicion. By the look on her face, I could tell she thought it was a book that contradicted the Bible. I quickly assured her that it wasn't. But I realized in that moment that the title was just provocative enough to wet someone's curiosity into picking it up and reading it.
Then, I decided to take it a step further by indexing and commenting on every verse I could find that teaches Jesus is God. However, I had no idea what I was in for. The sheer volume of biblical evidence would turn this into a MASSIVE undertaking!
My Table of Contents was turning into a sizeable, "chapter-like" section all by itself, as I began listing out all of the names, titles, attributes and works of God that the Bible applies DIRECTLY to the Lord Jesus Christ.
I'm still not quite sure if I want to stick to my original idea of indexing and commentary because that will invariably push publication of this work way beyond any foreseeable date.
Perhaps i should just keep it simple and publish the book as a handy - though comprehensive and exhaustive - reference guide. I'm still praying 🙏 about that.
Your thoughts and prayers are welcome. God bless you.

This sounds to me like he took the argument Ian McKellen makes in Davinci code and tried to pass it off as history. It's hard when you have to deal with these same recycled arguments about the gnostics and marcion again and again. Constantine being the bogeyman is hilarious too. All of this reeks of unskilled scholarship at best. Concerning the alleged allusions to it, there's none in scrupture. While it speaks of God the father, the son of god and the Holy Spirit, one cannot argue that it the trinity. That teaching explicitly says that each person is either God the father, which is scriptural. God the son or the erternal son both are not in scripture, nor is God the Holy Spirit. Which the trinity claims must be worshipped as distinct persons. The scripture nowhere mentions that regardsless of your words as to it's veracity. Most scholars agree it is not found there, James White agrees to that as does a host of others which I could mention. Still, simply looking in any Encyclopedia spells that the trinity is not scriptural. The scriptures conclude by 100 AD with John's death and writings, while the trinity was not mentioned by Jesus, the apostles or the prophets but by Tertullian in 200 AD. Origen and other Greeks used platonic thought which became the normative to describe by later apologists. The trinity was not until the late 4th century. The three Cappodicians created it by these words in 381. "In thinking upon the the trinity we came upon the trinity." Again, it is a paper tiger. Nobody can claim it is scriptural, as it never found there. Titles abound of God. "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Is talking about three or more gods? No, in fact about God who will becone a son yet be the almight and everlasting father, and holy spirit or comforter. The fact is that God himself calls himself the the Holy One over 30 times is enough evidence to condemn the Catholic trinity heresy. Nobody can fully understand it yet must believe it. According to orthodox Trinitarian doctrine, if a person claims to be a Christian but does not believe in the Trinity, he is not saved. Is that the truth? No. Wevare created in God's image in Genesis. Are you three people in unity? No. I'm a father, son and a spirit, but I'm not three people. To say otherwise to to lie. So the trinity is a lie as Paul calls later teachings not in the gospel cursed in Gal. 1:6-12. It is an add on warned against by Jesus in Rev. 22:18-19. It the tare doctrine that came after the truth or wheat teaching of the scriptures. One cannot be three persons and yet call himself one person. In fact, it is not scripture but platonic thought. It is a lie that will send you to hell in Matthew 7:21-23.

We call the Word "the Son" because like an earthly son He is "of the same stuff" as His Father, but is obedient to Him. Obviously Testify is a Trinitarian, most people are since that doctrines has been pushed for centuries. However, there are many logical and consistency problems with the trinitarian view, one of them is reading into the text ideas that the text does not have. Jesus had plenty of opportunities to say “I am God also along with the Father and the Spirit,, I have always existed,.. etc” but the fact is that Jesus never said anything like that. When Jesus asked Peter who people say that I am? Peter answer correctly, “ you are the christ the son of the living God” Jesus did not make a correction as to what Peter said, on the other hand he confirmed it. So in John 17:3 Jesus plainly says that his Father is the Only true God and that he is the Christ sent by Him, whatever other verses may appear to say the contrary should tell us that our interpretation must be faulty. I ask, are we going to believe what Jesus said about himself or not? None of the apostles considered Jesus to be God ever, Thomas assertion has to be understood in light of what Jesus told Phillip, “ whoever sees me sees the Father also”, Thomas recognized that the Father was the agent in Jesus giving him power, wisdom, and authority, so Thomas declared the son and the Father when he said, “ my lord and my God”, Jesus did not say he was God when he said “ Before Abraham was I am” some translations translate the I am as I exist or I am he” All Jesus was saying is that in the plan of God, he was there from the beginning. We have to compare what John 9:9 says which in Greek is the same answer Jesus spoke however nothing weird is being made out of that text. No where in the Bible the trinity is taught.

      Verses 52, 53, 54, 55, and 56.
52 Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.’ 53 Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Who do You make Yourself out to be?”
54 Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is [o]your God. 55 Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him,’ I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”
this is clearly in context to the father.
if you are going to keep arguing like a child. then really isn't anywhere else to go from here.
again. even if it "is" about Jesus, then once context is taken from Jesus about what he thinks of himself then it makes sense that he can make the statements in reference to himself. because He is the One And Only Begotten Son of The Living God. that makes everything God has His by birthright.
and even if you foolishly decide to try and annul this by some retarded reason or devilish twist of scripture you need the start of this argument shown.
14 Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. 16 And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me. 17 It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. 18 I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.”
19 Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?”
Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”
the trinity doctrine is nonsense explicitly becasue Jesus does not say
"I bear witness of myself because I am your God." he does not.

Isaiah 9:6 describes the coming Messiah to be "Mighty God." In John 3, Jesus told the woman at the well that He is that Messiah, clearly calling Himself God. All of the first century extra biblical sources note that the Christians of the FIRST century worshiped Jesus as God. Well before the supposed "God myth" is said to have crept into the faith. Come on, this guy calls himself "Morgue" has cultic symbols in his back drop, and even his collar forms an upside-down five point star. He couldn't be more obvious if he tried.

Really the Father is wrathful while Jesus was the opposite? Let's see, the Lion of Judah got angry in Mark 3:1-6, 11:15-19, John 2:15-17 and Psalm 2:12. Then you got Revelation--particularly the first 3 chapters--best support might be Rev 2:18-29. Also the first coming had a totally different purpose than the second coming will, and in John 5:16-23--particularly verse 22-23, Jesus says "For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgement to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father..." in reference to the coming judgement at the end of the age. So... yeah...

So dude thinks that Constantine wanted to use an oft-persecuted but supposedly very divided religion as some uniting force over Pagan tribed who would instantly take to Monotheism and also be cool with taking orders from God as opposed to the Emperor... who had been traditionally deified in the past and it would be far more effective to simply have weaponized that pre-existing system?
    Makes sense so far.

Highly recommend Anthony Rogers's videos on unitarianism.
For a brief introduction, I recommend InspiringPhilsophy's videos (I don't remember the exact titles)
      "Jewish evidence for the trinity"
      And
      "Trinity in the Old Testament"
He has a series on Cira International about the Angel of the Lord in the Old Testament being God but disinct from God. Testify alludes to one such example with the man that Jacob wrestles with the man/God. Anthony carefully reads the passages and points out the interesting things about it.
Anthony also has long and great livestreams on his own channel with great detail and has several debates on this.
His livestreams on Cira International on the book of Hebrews is great.
As is explained in the debate with Michael Brown and James White against two unitarians, Hebrews explicitly calls Jesus God.
One for Israel also has a great series "Case for Messiah" which addresses these things as well and bring in Jewish sources which acknowledge things that Christians believe as well because the writers of the NT were jewish and Jesus is the Jewish Messiah.
Church Fathers were aware of these OT passages and connected the dots.
For instance some of the passages discussed by Anthony and others are: "The Lord said to my lord."
Yahweh said: "Come up the Mountain to Yahweh." (Talking about himself as if a different person in a different place)
"Yahweh poured down fire and burning stone from Yahwah in Heaven."
Hagar and Parents of Samson seeing the Angel of the Lord and saying that they will die.
The Torah mixing up whether it is the Angel of the Lord or God who is speaking on any occasion.
Can we see God or not see God? Exodus affirms then denies this within the span of a chapter and more.
      And lots more.

but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
