    That is a stunning build of an old kit of classic cold war warrior. very well done. especial;y with a raised panel line kit. I like your reinstating of the rivets. Beautifully painted weathered and presented.

    Weight on wheels not only flattens the bottom of the tires it also compresses the sidewall of them.
    Sanding the bottom flat doesnt make it look like you have low pressure tires, it just looks like you have flat tires.

      Thanks for the feedback. As I said in my page, I’m not a pro modeller. Simply posting videos here to share my love for building models and as you can see, I did not label my videos as tutorial or how to. As I can see from your youtube profile, you just created your profile a day ago. So I’m looking forward to see you share a build or two and maybe perhaps learn from someone as good as you. All that said and done, I am proud of all the models I’ve built including the ones since I was a little boy. That helped me spark my passion for aviation and made me an airline pilot I am today. Looking forward to learn from you. Спасибо!

    • @Boxplanes
      @Boxplanes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, those are Mk 46s. I referred to this page:
      web.ipmsusa3.org/content/mk-46-torpedoes

    • @jwrockets
      @jwrockets 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Boxplanes Ok, great! The only torpedoes I've actually handled have been the Mk 48's back when I did submarine things. All of our war shots were green. When we went out prior to deploying, we would have orange training torpedoes shot against us. They had no warhead, only fuel and guidance. They only had about 10 minutes of fuel on board. They were orange for two reasons: 1. So we would know they they weren't war shots and 2. To make them visible to the torpedo retrieval boats. The 46's were probably also colored according to their purpose.

    It really pisses me off when a model company can design a really nice kit, then not even give correct weight for nose weight. Hasegawa has a reputation of making nice kits, but this kind of gross error makes one wonder what other mistakes they made. The only thing worse is when a company omits the info completely. It must be some national secret or something. You, sir, did a really nice job on this kit. Too bad Hasegawa didn't uphold their end of the bargain.

    • @Boxplanes
      @Boxplanes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks buddy. Yeah, you’re spot on. But I’m giving Hasegawa the benefit of doubt since this is an old kit. But you’re right, wouldn’t hurt to alter the instructions a bit. Like you said, some brands are worse by omitting the info altogether. Happy modelling!

    I really enjoyed watching your build, well done on an excellent subject and result. It's a shame about the nose weight issue. Instructions are not always correct. I have noticed this in other model builds that I have watched and therefore will be adding much more weight than recommended with my future builds.

    • @Boxplanes
      @Boxplanes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your kind words. You’re right about the weights. Yeah normally I do add more than the recommended weights. But since I have other plans on how to display this Orion that doesn’t really matter whether it’s a tail sitter or not, why not put the manufacturer’s recommendation to the test. 😅
      Cheers sir. Thanks for watching.

      @MAN394631 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, as modeller is that basically to known that you cannot trust kits instructions, its easy to find out how many conter weight you need, you use a stick and balance it out in near of main suspension, if the model sit down, you need more weight, if the nose goes down, your conter weight is enough, very simple waay.

    Nice work! I spent three years with VP-48. I built one of these with custom decals from my squadron for myself. VP-40 was one of our sister squadrons. A few details. Only three of the engines had alternators. I think number one was the lone hold out. Number one always burned cleaner than the other three. We ALWAYS dressed our props. Which means they were almost always a straight cross. Sometimes an X but always the same across the wing. You did a nice job on the engine wash and the APU exhaust. Those areas were always a bit dirty, even after a good bath. The lead edge was actually gray, covered with a clear self adhesive tape about a foot wide. This clear cover yellowed very quickly and made the lead edge look yellow. I painted mine with a very light coat of yellow to simulate this effect. The walk ways on the wings were non-skid black. I taped mine and shot them with flat black. P-3Cs of my era were Light Gray Gloss and Gloss White. It was a very glossy paint and tended to be very shiny. Our aircraft had very few if any bare spots. These were squawked by aircrew or maintenance crew during daily inspections. They were sanded and repainted with in a day or so. I made three deployments with my squadron. It was a great time. Better upon reflection. One last note. Naval squadrons had a big inspection every year or every other year (I have forgotten the frequency, but not the pain). Called the "Corrosion Inspection". The squadron prepped like their mother-in-law was coming to stay a week. Everything was cleaned, painted, filed and proof read. Everyone was on edge. To fail was unthinkable. The pressure was extreme. Those same emotions and drive came bubbling up as I built my P-3C. I could hear my skipped say: "Make her shine like a baby's butt!" I spent more time on that model than any before or since.

      Tom Andrews oh wow. Wish I had this info before building the kit. I did some research but I know it’s insufficient when I decided to build it. It’s hard to find first hand experience on the Orion through the web. I do realise that US Navy’s Orions are A LOT cleaner than other operators. Now I know the reason. Thanks for sharing!

      @@Boxplanes You are welcome. My info is a bit dated. The Orions are all but gone from the fleet. She was a real workhorse. Your build is beautiful.
