    G'day BPM, truly outstanding work. I'm a modeller in my late 60s and for 90% of that time all my modelling was only done with a brush. Only recently did I get an airbrush; however, I still find I'm doing a lot of brushwork. Your brushwork is excellent and the overall surface finish is quite accurate.
    I'm ex-RAAF and I've noticed that Orions from most countries were kept extremely clean and well painted. Their smooth gloss coatings really did help with speed, fuel consumption and, most important of all, helped to protect against the harsh effects of saltwater spray. For many years our Orions were kept looking like they were almost new.
    The only minor flaw I found in your excellent paint job was an absence of weathering on the leading edges of the propellor blades which, again, was due to the saltwater 'mist' they had to fly through at low level 'attack' runs and harsh ocean storms.
    I loved the old paint schemes of the P-3Cs. In fact, painting aircraft is a bit boring these days because lots of military aircraft are just a collection of grey shades, even the Poseidons that replaced the Orions.
    Anyway, extremely good job and, again, proving that airbrushing isn't always superior to 'old fashioned' brushing by hand.
    Cheers, Bill H. Tasmania

    Nice Job.. I was a Crewman on the P-3C you did a great job. The only thing I would say that was wrong, was we never carried Torpedos outside of the skin of the aircraft. They always were in the Bomb Bay.

      Thank you! Regarding the torpedos, it came with the kit like that, but good to know.

    I love what you are doing keep it up i think when done correctly brush painting looks more realistic and scale than airbrush especially on large aircraft like this

    Beautiful finished model. Well done! I am about to start the hobby again after a very long time away, and will be starting with brush-painting airplanes. Your videos have been very inspirational and helpful. Quick question - what are the best paints to use if you are brush painting - and how do you thin them for best results? I have some Tamiya paints at the moment, but am a bit worried about using them since they are more a 'hybrid' and not true acrylics (is that right?). Thanks...

    • @brushpaintedmodels7086
      @brushpaintedmodels7086  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      IMO best paints for brush painting are water based ones. Like Vallejo model color or Revell aqua. I use a thinner always, e.g. Vallejo 70.524. Tamiya is alcohol based, but is OK for smaller areas.

    Awesome build and video. I was wondering if in the future you could maybe do a B-17 Flying Fortress model?

    Do you tend to thin both Vallejo Model Color and Model Air when brush painting? Do you use Vallejo thinner or just water, and what approx ratio paint:thinner? What went into your decision to use Model Air instead of Model Color for part of this model? Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for your efforts.

    • @brushpaintedmodels7086
      @brushpaintedmodels7086  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thin the paint always. Model color with Vallejo thinner, ca 1:1 ratio. Or you can add a bit less thinner and some water. Air series doesn't need that much, is more fluid from the bottle. I went for Model Air this time, because the color FS 16440 is not available in Model Color series. And I was curious how the Air series behaves when brush painted.

    Hey! first of all congratulations for your journey in the hobby. the difference between your first model and these last ones are overwhelming.
    Now, I wanted to ask you why you didnt use the set of Ammo Mig USAF paint you bought for the F-16 video? You said you were going to show why in a separate video but I haven't been able to find it.
    I'm asking because im about to buy that same set! so, if there are any problems with the paints, it would be nice to know before buying.
    Cheers! :)

      Hi Juan! Thank you for your comment! Good that you mentioned the Ammo paint. I almost forgot about it, although I have a review video almost done. The problem with that paint is, that if you try to brushpaint it, it shrinks, and leaves tiny bubbles on the surface. Worst acrylic paint for brush painting I came across so far. But I don't know how it behaves when airbrushed, maybe totally OK. So it depends on usage.

      @@brushpaintedmodels7086 Although my experience with the brand was a little better than what you describe, it is good to know how it could behave.
      Sadly it is the closest thing to vallejo in South America, and compared to Revell Aqua, I've had much better results. Thanks for the answer, I will patiently wait for your video to come to a conclusion!

    Very nice build! But i have 2 questions: how did you manage to put those strings so tense,and is there a difference between the gloss varnish and the matt one? Because i used matt varnish and it pealed of when i put on the decals.

    • @brushpaintedmodels7086
      @brushpaintedmodels7086  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. The string is AMMO Rigging - AMIG8018. It's very flexible. You can stretch it as you wish. The gloss varnish will leave a glossy surface, while the matt a matt. I never had issue with peeling. Don't use acrylic varnish over enamel paint. Or try to clean off the decal solution remains with a moist brush or towel, after the decals are fully dry.

      @@brushpaintedmodels7086 Thank you. I will try the glossy varnish. I only use acrylic paint.

    Before applying the decals, how long do you have to wait for the varnish to dry?

    Do you thin the Vallejo paint down or do you use it straight out of the bottle?
