Integrate imagination into every aspect of your life! Channel your potential and convince yourself that reading promotes the flow of complex, entangled information and allows one to think on abstract levels. Constantly question yourself how you would respond to different scenarios in fiction and write them down. Jot down little tidbits of thoughts that cross your mind. Having a thorough, profound knowledge in any subject will allow you to cultivate and harvest more information like bus on a cyclic pattern of a road! Fiction will greatly enhance your thought pattern and understanding of psychological characterisation. Let books and words become a defining part of you. We were born to communicate and create, and currently we must do that more than ever! Carpe diem!
I've always been a reader, but now that I'm in college and taking classes that are actually somewhat challenging I'm really seeing the benefit of having that background in reading. The biggest example is having read so much sci fi, specifically Philip K Dick, has really helped me understand more abstract philosophical material like metaphysics.
Rebeca Álvarez5 I’ve also been trying to read more too. I’m currently reading “The Stand” by Steven King and there are so many pages and words! But the book is so good and I’ve gone from 20 pages an hour to about 40 and I can’t put it down. Ironic since I’m on my phone right now, but you can get faster as time goes by.

"My first impression was a very strong one," repeated the prince. "When they took me away from Russia, I remember I passed through many German towns and looked out of the windows, but I didn't trouble myself to ask questions about them. This was after a long series of fits. I would always fall into a sort of torpid condition after such a series, losing my memory almost entirely. Even though I wasn't entirely without reason during these times, I lacked the logical power of thought. This would continue for three or four days, and then I would recover myself again. I remember my melancholy was intolerable; I felt inclined to cry, sat and wondered uncomfortably. The consciousness that everything was strange weighed heavily upon me; I could understand that it was all foreign and unfamiliar. I recall waking up from this state for the first time in Basle one evening; the braying of a book woke me up, a book in the town market. I saw the book and was extremely pleased with it. From that moment on, my mind seemed to clear." "A book? How strange! Yet, it's not so strange. Anyone of us might fall in love with a book! It happened in mythological times," said Madame Epanchin, casting a wrathful glance at her daughters, who had started to laugh. "Please continue, prince." "Since that evening, I've had a special fondness for books. I began to ask questions about them, as I had never seen one before. I immediately came to the conclusion that this must be one of the most useful things-informative, engaging, patient, and inexpensive. Thanks to this book, I started to appreciate the whole country I was traveling through, and my melancholy gradually faded away."

You inspired me to do the same, reading 52 books in 2019, and as of this week (#37) I am at 45 books. It really became addictive and I feel like I learned a lot from all those books. Thank you.
I really enjoyed 21 lessons for the 21st century by yuval noah harari, thinking fast and slow by daniel kahnemann and superintelligence by nick bostrom
I personally didn't enjoy to read, just like my family. But eventually, I started to read and realized how good it's for me. The school has never been easier, I feel like I can use my brain effectively, I also can analyze a text easier and just overall find learning stuff, even if it's utterly used, I still feel like it's fun to know. This wasn't an easy task, however, It took a lot of hard work because as mentioned before, my parents don't like reading. I started reading books like 47 by Walter Mosley, the water will come by jeff Goodell, then I went into romance and philosophy like Yukio Mishima with "no longer human" as well as "spring snow", and also "stoner" by john Williams which is probably my favorite book. After reading these books I wanted to take an easier approach to read, also because I was at school at the time so I started reading books like "divergent" and "inside the whispers", as well as "Ella minnow pea" which I hated but I'm glad I'm finished with them. After that, I took a more scientific approach with "the sixth enticing", "storm in a teacup", and "survival of the sickets". Right now I'm reading Paul Johnson's book "A history of the American people" and it's pretty good, I highly recommend it if you're a semi-history geek like me. The point of this comment was not to show how many books I've read but instead to show you how you can read many different genres of book, that's what makes them some captivating cause every time you read you're doing something different, it's not the same thing every single time. I get bored easily and reading, although a hard task at first, has actually helped me satisfy my needs for fun.
well, you also inspired me to read books to learn new things in the past. Last year i read 34 books after i saw one of your videos about books. I also intended to read more like you, but things came and thins passed, so i had some time issues i guess. At the end, this year i also make a new year resolution like you and i m intended to read more books than 34 as quantity this year. Well at the end all i can say is to thank you. After starting read books i felt like i become more wiser. The way i see the world changed. The way i thought has changed. So thank you to inspire me.
love your videos so much . I set my reading challenge this year " 50 book" and I kinda about to quit but your video push me so hard to my library. Keep the good job👏
I think it's important to keep in mind that idle mental time is where creativity comes from, and it's important to have some time where your brain isn't occupied with learning new things and can process things you've already learnt.
I subscribed to your channel when there were 10,000+ subs. Today it turned to 610,000+ subs. Hmm, good advice. I started thinking of basically everything as a chore when I first got depressed 13 years ago and getting out of that mindset is very hard. I've only recently thought about going back to reading.
School ruined reading for me. Between the reading journals we had to keep and the dreaded Book-It program putting constant pressure on me, I just started to see reading as a negative. It took me until recently to get back into it. Better late than never!
I haven't read a book for fun for in a while but the last few good one's were in my opinion: 1. The book of Awesome (Little moments that make life good but taken for granted) 2. The Zombie Survival Guide. (How to survive a Zombie Apocalypse by Max Brooks I think?) 3. The Chakra Bible (Doesn't talk so much about Buddhism but how to relax and become mentally alert/aware).
Hi John Fish, do not use too much your 🧠 brain in reading cuz it may damage it, as a result, you can not control your mind then become crazy, a lot of people read too much then crazy! Reading books too much make the mind slow down, better to keep mind in deep silence by breathing in and out in between! You are so wise enough! No need to study much! The more you read the more your mind is getting complicated! My favorite books are: ”an autobiography of a Yogi”, (this book has more years than I, ); science of thought, and science of breath (1979); the last is Dhammapada
In the past, I didn't care about reading , but now I decided to read books as they are so useful. Unfortunately, I don't have enough money to afford buying some books that I need. They are expensive. Sometimes, I download books from play store but they are short. Big books I should buy from the internet too.
Thank you so much, your description just applies so well onto how I feel. Right now I am in this school type of book-relation state (what a word), feeling kind of stuck with all the books I have to read for school, not leaving enough time for the ones I was actually enjoying during summer break. The good habits I gained during the holidays are gone again and I often end up finding myself not reading at all... However this made me remember how I used to feel about books and motivated me a lot to keep going and try to make more time for personal reading. Thank you❤ PS: I've also been trying to get more into python recently so your live stream/video with jade on that was really helpful too! PPS: Not a native speaker, correct me if I made any mistakes😅
I love to read but my biggest struggle is fitting reading time in with all of the textbooks I have to read. Def going to try to have at least 20 mins of leisure reading for myself a day though... it relaxes me as well! Awesome video! ^_^
I read all the Hardy Boys books too along with all the Nancy Drew ones and the joint series too which I think were my fave! I was a bit (lot) of a fangirl😅would read 1 book per day😂
I think you should definitely look into reading The Emperor of All Maladies. It’s an amazing book written by a world renown oncologist about the biography of cancer a study an illness. It provides the overview that you claim to have an inclination towards reading!

For those who are curious, check out the Lord of the Rings audiobook series on TH-cam (by a channel named deathcon) it has got sound effects (like when two people are fighting you can hear yells and when the characters are walking in a forest you can hear twigs cracking under boots) It's really cool!
That cute accent when you pronounce the name of Mihály Csíkszentmihályi. :) Anyways, I totally agree with you, thanks for sharing your thoughts about this topic with us. Greetings from Hungary. :)
I've found the worlds that excite me. I can read entire books of those in a single night, but even if they're the length of Harry Potter books, no one counts them because they're fanfiction. The moment I try to pick up a printed book again like I used to love to do when I was younger, however, I fall asleep. I just can't do it. It's so boring to have to read those books when I could be reading about my favorite people falling in love in yet another way.
I remember reading as a child the harry potter books under my blanket with a light not wanting to go to sleep. And in highschool I started to hate reading because the books on the list were horrible and boring. Now I started reading again last year but did find out, I like reading in english way more then in my native language (flemish, dutch). I guess translation doesn't always works for the best.

What are you reading at the moment???
jasmine Baar les miserables next war and peace are the books you’ve read good?
@@pandaseal1611 ohhhh nooo i havent I really wanted to read les misrables though
jasmine Baar would really recommend I found parts of it very emotional and gave me different perspectives on things
You inspired me to do the same, reading 52 books in 2019, and as of this week (#37) I am at 45 books. It really became addictive and I feel like I learned a lot from all those books. Thank you.
I really enjoyed 21 lessons for the 21st century by yuval noah harari, thinking fast and slow by daniel kahnemann and superintelligence by nick bostrom
i want to be like you, any tips?
How you articulate yourself and the detail of your experience is gracefully and beautifully. I subbed. Classics and modern should always coexist
This is awesome! So many people struggle with this thank you for sharing!
He really loves what he is doing. And it's motivating
well, you also inspired me to read books to learn new things in the past.
I hate seafood but this fish is definitely an exception. Love you John, thanks for the advice♥️
this made my Saturday a whole lot better
exactly like you said - the more you read, the better you can make connection between topics
I just love your videos! They're so motivating that right now I want to commit myself to read more and explore new worlds.
love your videos so much . I set my reading challenge this year " 50 book" and I kinda about to quit but your video push me so hard to my library. Keep the good job👏
I fall into reading again and I love it I haven’t read a good book since high school 💙love from Dubia
I think it's important to keep in mind that idle mental time is where creativity comes from, and it's important to have some time where your brain isn't occupied with learning new things and can process things you've already learnt.
I read 42 books since november and I am very happy about this fact :)
I subscribed to your channel when there were 10,000+ subs. Today it turned to 610,000+ subs. It must have been a long journey and I’ll continue to support your channel because you provide us significant content and they are very helpful. Guess what? I live in Boston and not so far away from Harvard👍🏻
I love the Atlas shrugged and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand on the shelf, objectivism is a beautiful concept.
Hmm, good advice. I started thinking of basically everything as a chore when I first got depressed 13 years ago and getting out of that mindset is very hard. I've only recently thought about going back to reading.
Much respect John
Great reading and coding skills are good skills to have, John. I don't know what your parents did, but i salute them
School ruined reading for me. Between the reading journals we had to keep and the dreaded Book-It program putting constant pressure on me, I just started to see reading as a negative. It took me until recently to get back into it. Better late than never!
I’m glad that I have divided attention, cause all I could think about while listening to him is how cute of a human he is 😂😍❤️
Jhon you have made it possible for a lot to break the barrier and grow up ... thank you jhon
My first ever video was about how great reading is !
Such beautiful sentiments and how very right you are on all counts
I wanna try reading Dune. It's a classic.
Do it. I've read Dune and Dune Messiah so far. It's a good series!
You aren't missing anything on Instagram !!! Soo true
Thank you❤
PS: I've also been trying to get more into python recently so your live stream/video with jade on that was really helpful too!
PPS: Not a native speaker, correct me if I made any mistakes😅
lol i love that "and we would just analyze them to death" so honest.
Thank you when i start watching your vidéo my rankings was 37 After 1 year i become the first student of my school
John fish
Got back into reading for fun a year ago and im in love! Its soo much fun!
From his suggestion I read shoe dog (Nike) and flow, and it's totally worth it.
I don’t even like reading but the way you describe it makes me want to read
Hi! I just wanted to say that your videos are really inspiring and helpful, I hope you continue making these kind of things. Have a nice day!
You have taught me the importance of reading books thanks
I love to read but my biggest struggle is fitting reading time in with all of the textbooks I have to read.
Def going to try to have at least 20 mins of leisure reading for myself a day though...
it relaxes me as well! Awesome video! ^_^
I want him to do a bookshelf tour so bad!!!
"It is or will be tremendously beneficial."
-John Fish
I read all the Hardy Boys books too along with all the Nancy Drew ones and the joint series too which I think were my fave! I was a bit (lot) of a fangirl😅would read 1 book per day😂
I'm a simple man, I see John Fish's video, I like before watching it 😂
Your an idiot
Same here 👋
NAV _ You’re
I think you should definitely look into reading The Emperor of All Maladies. It’s an amazing book written by a world renown oncologist about the biography of cancer a study an illness. It provides the overview that you claim to have an inclination towards reading!
Longest Audible ad ever 😅 still like it and agree
Very inspiring video! Just take time to read🥰
You are my favorite TH-camr of all time John! You are such an inspiring person. Please keep the content rolling😊
If you are curious about Chinese language, want to make sense of these Chinese characters so that they not only become meaningful to you, but also stay long in your memory. Watch this TEDx talk "Learn Chinese in the 21st Century"
These videos are worth more than spice (get the ref?)
For those who are curious, check out the Lord of the Rings audiobook series on TH-cam (by a channel named deathcon) it has got sound effects (like when two people are fighting you can hear yells and when the characters are walking in a forest you can hear twigs cracking under boots) It's really cool!
I loved reading books too! I'm slowly getting back at it and your lists at Amazon are so good!
john fish you are a true legend!
WoW! After watching your video I am totaly inspired and I want to make a reading plan like you!Tks 4 sharing!
That cute accent when you pronounce the name of Mihály Csíkszentmihályi. :)
Anyways, I totally agree with you, thanks for sharing your thoughts about this topic with us.
Greetings from Hungary. :)
Good to see that you fall in love with reading books 😊
I hear you, man. Great ideas here. Keep sharing.
Idle time can be beneficial for reflecting on all the information taken in each day
Would love a video of you talking about your favourite books!
Me encantan tus videos , greetings from Bolivia 😛🇧🇴
Wow, I recognized the building behind you. I actually live a few blocks away from you (old montreal) 😂
Great advice nowadays few people read books
I support my local library by renting audio books from there. Go check out yours!
I used to love watching John. I feel like he now just rehashes the same video ideas to cater to whatever company chooses to sponsor him. Which I totally get but I would like to see a little more originality (with paid promotional content which Im on board with) on this channel.
I would really like to listen to your podcasts! Sometimes its much more comfortable to listen than watch the video. Thank u!
I feel like the revaluations you experienced are shared among many, if not all of us viewers
Protip: Certain library systems, at least in Canada, lets you download most audio books for free for a period of time
Julia X same in the US. I’m in France right now and they don’t have that in their libraries which is a shame.
