The daughter displayed a lot of anger, while the mother answered the questions that Judge asked, but did not elaborate because she knew there was no point. The woman has been through a lot. And it’s not our place to judge, especially without knowing the whole story, that she is completely at fault. A few have commented that she is playing the victim, but I don’t see that at all. I see a defeated, beaten down person, so much so, she has no fight left in her, and has no reason to fight anymore. I believe she only counter-sued her daughter, for less than her daughter was suing her for, simply to mitigate the damages if she were to lose. Lastly, it’s clear she is brokenhearted that she can no longer see her four grandchildren. She loves her daughter, but she has given up. She loves her grandchildren- she meant something to her grandchildren, and she loves and misses them. Their family situation is similar to mine. My mother tried to talk me out of getting treatment for breast cancer and told me to just be Vegan and it would "Cure" it. After I went through treatment and I was 3 years out of treatment when I was at a family picnic with my kids she cussed me out for not dying so she could collect on the $50,000 life insurance policy that she has on me. Now 14 years later she's still pissed that I am alive.
I can see that the mom did owe her. It seems she burnt her bridge with all her other children. I wonder which child she's going to reach out to once the friend realizes she's only using her.
My mom and I were not close till I was in my early 30's, my father raised me and my mom was in and out of my life. I came into enough money around 2014 to buy my home outright, myself a car outright, hubby a truck and we bought my mom a car. Car was left in my name due to insurance being cheaper with multiple cars on policy but she was on insurance and we paid premiums. My mom was in a abusive relationship and we paid 4 tickets 4 her to move to us, hotel might b4 flight, bought her a car, moved her in with us of course rent free. I was financially able at time and NEVER wanted anything in return. My mom has bipolar, unmedicated then and now, and we have definitely had a rough relationship but thankfully I learned to forgive and we r closer now than ever. I can completely understand why a daughter could be upset with a mom if she did not act like good or even decent mother. It makes me sad that the daughter cannot forgive and move on, NOT FORGET, just because it would make her mental health better and have less bitterness. I do not mean to forgive mom 4 mom's sake at all but because, I know from 1st hand experience, it makes you less bitter, mentally it's much more peaceful. I found out sadly a good while ago that my mom was just not capable of making it up 2 me, her past behavior in my childhood. It took my wonderful husband explaining to me that I could accept what she was capable of giving, not expect more, be content with that or I could continue expecting more and getting hurt which he hated seeing me do and in pain after. I realized I was capable of accepting her love how she was capable of showing it and I realized I was happier in life and much less bitter and mentally hurting. I do not mean someone should just accept it, I mean if you realize the person is just not capable of more then you also have right to say no I don't accept this and if/when u r capable of more maybe I will accept it or maybe I will not be there and that is ok.
This is an absolutely insightful, intelligent, experienced, beautiful comment! What you said is so true, and I am so happy you found a wonderful husband to help you understand- because it’s hard to see other avenues when you are in such a situation. People are only capable of giving what they have- and if they try their best, that’s all you can ask. Your mom loves you, but she can’t give you what she doesn’t have, and your heart was open enough to understand that. A person can be both a not-so-great parent and a basically good person at the same time. These things are not always mutually exclusive. I wish you could shout your comment from the mountain tops!

The tough thing about these cases is the judges want you to be pitch perfect she don’t know what that grandma was dealing with it’s a lot taking care of kids especially other peoples kids. These cases needs to be on judge Mathis not the peoples court because the judge is definitely trying to make the grandmother feel bad for what she did when she was just TIRED!!! There’s a lot of pain behind that TIRED
I kind of agree here- sometimes you have to be part of a community to truly understand a situation and how to handle it best. I’m not saying the Judge’s decision was appropriate, it was fair. And the Judge is not racist in any way, but it was clear that this family dysfunction was something that was very foreign to her.
I'm sure her kids are tired too. That's why her other children don't even deal with her and the only one who does ended up feeling like she had to sue her. Damn shame. A lot of parents do real bang up jobs on their kids.
I think the mom has some fault but the daughter definitely should take responsibility for her actions too, the daughter is spiteful and does not care with her demeanor and the mom looks genuinely upset and saddened by this
It depends on the situation on children and parents. Just because the word mom is thrown in the vocabulary doesn't mean that all "moms" are worthy. Its just like what judge milian said to the mom of the daughter s attitude you reap what you sow. Idk what is their story but hopefully oneday they do learn to forgive eachother. And the reason I said what I said is I have a friend that has a son he's 19 right now but when he was a kid she would sleep around with a lot of men and she did it too with her second child while pregnant and ended up giving up for adoption. And her thing always was she was more preoccupied for men than her own child and her and I would always go at it because I've always told her that what she's doing is wrong and her mother was always there for her but I don't know why she became she did she always ended up blaming her mother for it but I've always told her that just because she did it doesn't mean you have to you can learn to change the cycle it's all in your court that's what I've always told her.

Plaintiff’s iPad story is BS. For starters, anyone with common sense would have turned the iPad in to an Enterprise employee, because chances are, the customer who lost it will either call, or come back for it. What I think really happened is she stole the iPad, wasn’t smart enough to turn off *“Find my”,* and was tracked to her location. The owner didn’t want to confront a stranger, so they contacted the police, who contacted her, and gave her to opportunity to turn herself in. Period. *”May God have mercy on her soul”,* yup, and yours too ma’am. Yours too.
What a weird case. I still can’t make head nor tail of what the story was as to why they can’t get along. And anyway if she doesn’t work why does she need her mum to look after her kids? What is she doing all day?
I sorry. I blame the daughter for buying the car for mom. If I'm a single mom w/ 4 mouths to feed, I'm not buying anything for anyone except for myself and my children.
The plaintiff is laughing but her mother made sense in saying she travels for drugs...someone who doesn't work yet lives a good life as she said, two cars and travels so much...the traveling alone she kept mentioning I was like something isn't right there...her story about the iPad probably isn't true either...glad she didn't get anything.
It's more to this mother-daughter story than what is actually being told. It appears to me that the mother has or had a substance abuse problem..This case is just sad and pathetic 😔 😪
Yes! She was probably a crackhead which we all know devastated the black family and community. Which is why her other kids don’t speak to her. I think the mother was gaining something from whatever her daughter was doing and when the car came about she used it as an opportunity to leave.

The plaintiff is the QUEEN of eye rolls. 🙄🙄🙄 I’m surprised the judge didn’t call her out more. Yeah there is a lot of dysfunction in that family. It’s so sad to see these things happen.
This is a very sad and unusual case, where I feel like a lot of things were unspoken, and it was really difficult to tell what had happened. This is clearly more than about a car and a missed court date. The Judge’s ruling makes sense. So yeah, I wrote an essay- my apologies. I tried to break it down… 1. Wait - you notice an iPad at the counter at an Enterprise office, and instead of turning it into the staff at Enterprise, you ‘return’ it to the police station? Did I miss something? 2. *Daughter* I don’t like the daughter’s reaction/body language/facial expressions when her mother is speaking- way over the top. Just so incredibly disrespectful to behave like that towards anyone- and especially towards your mother. *Mother* The mother just looked so sad, so exhausted, and so tired out. She is likely disappointed in her daughter, and perhaps also disappointed in herself. *PSA* The rest of this part of my comment is just conjecture- I don’t know these people, and I have no clue. _Her mother may be feeling guilty because she wasn’t the best mother she could be- and how that affected her children. And now that she can see the results of her mistakes, if her children aren’t good people, she may feel it is her fault. And she cannot fix it, as they are adults. It’s possible she’s not a selfish or uncaring person, but a person who has realized her mistakes, and is devastated and feels hopeless about how her choices negatively affected the lives of all her children_ 3. I really like the Judge, I think she is very fair, insightful, and is kind. In this case, she doesn’t seem to grasp that dysfunctional families are dysfunctional. The mother hasn’t spoken to her daughter because she feels disrespected. Not directly telling her daughter that before or after she left may seem unusual. But in the context of a dysfunctional family setting, it makes complete sense. Mom was done. She didn’t need to say anything before or after- because her daughter knows how she treated her mother. To add: the Judge is right, the mom is modeling for daughter. You can’t expect to be treated any better than you treat others. 4. The daughter committed the ‘crime’, even though her mother left with no notice, handling that situation is 100% her responsibility. And her not knowing or caring about the status of her case- that says a lot about her. 5. Whatever is the truth is, this whole situation is just very sad for all involved. There is hurt, brokenness, and angry in everyone, it seems, and that is a tragedy. Sometimes you can’t fix yourself, or even realize you need fixing, let alone recognize that and reach out for help. It’s truly a tragedy because these people are going to stay exactly where they are right now, not realizing that they don’t have live the rest of their lives this way. Some of these cases are very dark, and this is one of them. Dang, now *I’m* depressed!l
Don't be depressed because you analyze this case perfectly like a psychologist or psychiatrist yes there's a lot of her feelings there a lot of anger and they both need counseling from a professional

@@cece5464 because her daughter was mistreating her! Did you not watch the video and hear what she said about that? Did you not see the pain and hurt in her eyes in referring to her daughter and explaining why she moved. Her daughter is young and has a lot of kids expecting her mom to do it all and was treating her horribly! Nobody deserves that and has a right to leave if you can’t respect them! Come on now! SMH
Looks like maybe the defendant had a drug problem and probably neglected her kids when they were young. Now this daughter is grown and is resentful towards her mother for the past and as a result treats her mother badly (talks down to her, forces her to watch her grandkids whenever). The mother knows she did wrong by her kids in the past so she refused to say anything against the current abuse. She finally has enough and decides to abruptly leave.

I’ve said it before in family cases like this. Sometimes it’s not repairable. I hope this one will be and many others I’ve seen but I believe life is too short. Uh @Depressed Albertan this family can be repaired, for the daughter needs to get help and deal with her issues and stop being hateful and disrespecting her mother. Her mother is not obligated to raise more children at her elder age. Daughter needs to grow up and take care of her own kids.
Sometimes family is toxic, and no one is obligated to put up with emotional abuse, even if it’s family.
Yes, I agree. I see no willingness on the daughters part, and from the look of deep sadness in her mother’s face, I imagine she has exhausted all avenues of repair she can possibly think of, and nothing worked. So sad.

@@melodiem2408 The way she carried herself and her responses- she seemed to have just given up, and came to court because she knew she it was the right thing to do.
Her daughter is doing her own children a disservice by not allowing them to visit with her grandmother. If the grandmother is not toxic toward the children and their visits are supervised, then the only victims here are the children.

When it comes to family I employ the approach of "Never expect to get back money you give them! If you do get it back it'll be a nice surprise and if you don't you won't be disappointed", that and only giving money for actual important things and not luxuries of course.
I learned this at a very young age when I loaned my brother a few bucks. We were kids. He never paid me back and I told him I would never loan him money ever again 🤣 It really hurt me though, that he didn't honor our agreement. Subsequently, I have never loaned anyone else money ever.

I love how Doulas twirls around on his back heels at the beginning of every case.
This is a very sad and unusual case, where I feel like a lot of things were unspoken, and it was really difficult to tell what had happened. This is clearly more than about a car and a missed court date. The Judge’s ruling makes sense. So yeah, I wrote an essay- my apologies. I tried to break it down…
It’s possible she’s not a selfish or uncaring person, but a person who has realized her mistakes, and is devastated and feels hopeless about how her choices negatively affected the lives of all her children_
