    Techs need to be paid better than they are right now. $16 is not liveable anymore and it doesn't matter if we don't have the lengthy education. At least $27. This is why the walks outs are happening right now because the pay has a lot to do with high turn over/poor stafding. No one wants to bend backwards for pennies. Most people who are pharm techs are barely out of HS, think they can't do better, or married.

      Thank you for your insight. I think being a pharmacy tech is a great foot in the door when it comes to exploring other medical careers. Just in case anyone is wondering … there are jobs that pay over 20/per hour … often times those jobs are not in the retail setting. They also require experience. So if one wants to earn a higher wage at the beginning of entering a job field, they may have to acquire some extra schooling for a different skill set to get them to the over 20/hour mark that they desire.

      Techs do 80% of what pharmacists can do so i agree with you on the higher wage. I just accepted a job at Publix and with 6 months of experience im getting $0.75 higher then what I was making at Walmart. Anything less then $25/hr is hard to live off if you actually want anything other then food and to pay for your car and gas. They are also wanting me to become an Immunizer so i can give shots for a $1 more an hr which is nothing given how important that is and you can mess it up.

    I didn't know you were a Pharmacy Tech! When I worked in the health insurance industry, my first desk was seated in the same area as our Part D team and their call center. Those quickly became some of my favorite colleagues. So much knowledge, patience, and care (especially for the elderly that we dealt with). This is a great topic.

      Yes, I worked with a few ladies that went on to pursue 9-5 office pharmacy tech positions in the insurance field. I personally love being on my feet for now...so I prefer either retail or hospital settings. Thank you for your feedback...I figured I could make some helpful content since I've been in the pharmacy field for a very long time lol

      @@ByMeMonique Do you know how to become a pharmacy tech within the insurance field? Do I need to take healthcare billing and insurance or medical coding at my local community college? As of right now, I am in the pharmacy tech online which started yesterday. Also, where is it best to work while being a pharmacy tech? I live in NC.

    • @ByMeMonique
      @ByMeMonique  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TiaoniaMichelle Hello and thank you for asking. My field of expertise is in hospital and retail RX. However, if you're interested in Insurance RX billing, working in a Retail RX setting will help expose you to the types of Insurance claims you will handle like: prior authorizations - overrides - TPRs and more. If you enjoy working with the public, I suggest working in a local retail pharmacy location. Congratulations on being in pharmacy tech school online!

    Hi I’m a pharmacy tech for 15 yrs in retail, I was interested in becoming a tech in the hospital setting but was reluctant because I’ve heard you are exposed to a lot of hazardous chemo and IV, that causes cancer, I know retail we have to wear gloves for hazardous drugs but they just started this rule a couple of years ago, but what is your take on this do you think it’s more hazardous working in hospital then retail?

    • @ByMeMonique
      @ByMeMonique  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello … this is a valid concern … with any job there are cons that can have a negative physical impact on one’s health. There are protocols and procedures put in place to help protect workers from experiencing these negative consequences. My suggestion is to ALWAYS follow the procedures protocols and guidelines and be SURE to ask the interviewer about your concerns … you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that not every Hospital Pharmacy Tech will encounter what you mentioned above.
