- I have finally vlogged a full day at work and we saved her life! As you know I've been meaning to do this for the longest time but I wanted to do with high production value. However, in order to do that, I had to secure thousands of dollars of insurance, clear with several legal teams, and it overall became too much of a nuisance to plan. I just got my iPhone 11 PRO with a 4K front camera so I decided to put it to the test and film with you guys to show you a day in the life of a doctor! I hope you enjoy and if you want more of this series please like + subscribe!

When he talked about allergies, I felt that. It's one of the worst things in my life and no matter how many types of medications I take, how many types of treatments or how many doctors I go to, it's always there
I have asthma and allergies to pollen. I understand the pain of allergies.

@@fireflythe7•I am no expert boot look at VIT D supplement (Most of us lack VITD the darker the skin the more likely or the more you fry and don’t like the sun )I have red hair so Fitzpatrick skin type I burn to a crisp one look ..My son is Sri Lankan /Fitzpatrick he has the allergies (Grass alas unavoidable yet to fix that one ) but VIT d supplements and using natural products his eczema since Birth and nothing really helped he would have awful flares of Eczema

Actually plenty of hospitals are like this! The hospital I work at has the goofiest, yet most dedicated staff I've ever met. After enough shifts, y'all become family and start to goof off with each other :)

Not that it's easy for you or other doctors. There's far too much paperwork and expectations weighing on your shoulders every crazy long day! No one should have to work such long hours daily. Doctors have brutal schedules. On top of seeing a lot of patients in a short amount of time that's not enough to get to know anyone or their health issues.
I digressed. I just want you to know your transparency is immensely appreciated. You're honest and upfront. Not afraid to admit when you're wrong. You show that you actually care by listening and responding in videos to questions and concerns. It's astonishing what you can and do accomplish with your work load.
Although I'm still getting through all your videos, I'm grateful to have found you/them. Some of them make me feel so validated and heard, even though you're not even talking about me.
You have a true gift. You Are a gift! I hope the nay sayers never get you down to the point you stop. You're incredible.
I think the world would be a better place if more people were open, honest, vulnerable, and as willing to hear differences of opinion as you are. You are an outstanding individual. It's no wonder that you've reached so many people and they all want a piece of you... and that will only continue to grow.
Admittedly, I'm a little jealous of everyone that gets to know you personally. You seem like a fun, interesting, down to Earth, loving and friendly person.

I personally can't imagine the toll that a 12-13 hour shift can take on your mind and body after many decades, even if this is a profession that you love and are passionate about. I wish you dove into burnout, its signs, and also how you prevent/mitigate it as you clearly find the time to take care yourself as well while educating people with this channel - which is awesome!

the outfits pretty much any medical professional wear in order to protect them from getting anything on them. They use this instead of their clothes to lower the risk of getting anything.

My Dad is an old school Family Physician with INCREDIBLE diagnostic skill. He graduated from UNC Med in 1968 & met my mom (hospital lab tech) during his residency. Fast forward a few years to his own family practice. He had so many patients he had to have multiple docs to cover is hospital patients when he went out of town for continuing ed. Like you said Dr Mike, pt notes took him HOURS EVERY EVENING.

I don't understand how one can work that many hours, run a TH-cam channel, stay in shape and also have a life outside of work...
With this kind of work schedule, I suspect he might not work 5 days a week of those 14 hour days. Maybe only 3 or 4, and then he has rest of the week to do his other stuff.
Sophie Nielsen you learn to mange your time... I’m a mother, and a physician ( works from 7 a.m till 4 pm). I do go to the gym 3-4 times a week, a go to the art studio 2 times a week. And yea i have in house duties (3-4 times a month) and i have to study for my residency program 😅😅. You learn to love being busy and productive and you feel empty without it.

I think you can relate to my concern.
My doc books me in for half-hour visits (monthly) and usually meets with me for an hour to an hour-and-a-half (exam, scripts, tests, discussion of options, it’s all business.)
I’m lucky right? I don’t get out of the office without taking care of everything.
My wife just sits there and gives me the stare of death when he’s pulled out of the room to deal with emergencies (which happens regularly) only to come back to finish our appointment...
I feel very guilty because he’s got an office full of other patients waiting which sets him back to where he doesn’t get out of the office till very late at night. He goes above and beyond for every one of his patients!
What do I do? He really doesn’t have hour-long blocks. His practice is closed. His staff are at their wits-end along with me (he just tells everyone to relax.)
He’s by a long way the best doctor I’ve ever seen and I’ve talked to him about this and he always says “don’t worry about it” but I feel like I’m doing the walk of shame when I leave his packed office after holding him up...
What would you want to hear from your patient? Would you want to hear anything? I don’t want to seem ungrateful.
He does four days a week and on Wednesdays he does house calls-HOUSE CALLS!

Thank you for sharing insight into a doctor's day. I've been dealing with many doctors/specialists the past two years since the onset of autoimmune. Some doctors take this stress out on patients,(which has been done to me, there's a lot of burnout after co-vid) but other times I see patients not understanding all that a doctor has to do and that upsets me as well.

Sometimes if I slept well like sleeping with no interruption and none of that "waking up at a random time and sleeping again and doing it over and over throughout the night" thing, I can usually wake up full of energy. I would bullshiting you if I told you I usually wake up like this. But in reality i have a very chaotic sleep schedule. Sometimes I sleep at night, mostly sleep at morning time and sometimes take a nap at noon

that's not that hard, even if it takes him a full hour to walk his dog and get ready in the morning (which is a lot of time) then he would still have 15 minutes before his first patient

And this is why i support the work for the Machine learning system that is intended to help doctors and nurses to speed up diagnosis and to make taking notes easier. Because it can allow them to focus more on saving lives. Also that means we can get more Dr Mike videos :3
