I love that your office area at the end was a patient room years ago based on the wall items. I am a health IT (PACS) guy now and what got me into this field was being born with a congenital heart defect. I want you to know that no matter what your future holds, you are the glue that makes sure people like me live happy and healthy lives. Your input is so important in-patient care!

this vlog was really cute. i’ve been looking for pharmacy vlogs just so i can understand what being a pharmacist actually is and this was helpful thank you! just one question (hope this doesn’t sound too dumb) what does doing rounds mean? :)
It means we go around the unit and discuss each patient case and come up with a plan. At most teaching institutions, medical residents would present the case and then nursing and pharmacists add their commentary and then medical team decides on plan. :-)
Hello lydia Im a palestinan clinical pharmacy student your vlog make me carry on in my study even that my uni was destroyed and pumps dont stop but one day I will be like you♥
Hello! I am new to your channel but I have loved this video! thank you for sharing your thoughts and allowing me to realize that linearity is not the only option. I would like to pursue pharmacy, but I am afraid I will not be able to do well as my chemistry is slightly weak. I took a pharmacology course for my BSc last sem, and I really enjoyed it. Would you say that pharmacy is very organic chemistry/ chemistry based? my BSc has a focus in biology/ biomedical field. thank you for your time, and I hope to see more videos like these! Take care!
Hi! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Pharmacy school does use quite a few chemistry basics and I think understanding the concepts are helpful in your career, but I also think the way college chemistry is sometimes taught isn’t the same as practical knowledge/ not a true indicator of whether you’ll be able to apply these concepts in real world. We do still think about half life, lipophilicity, kinetics etc. but it’s only one slice of the pie. There are people skills, abstract problem solving, writing skills, time management/life skills etc that contribute to overall success. Chemistry grades probably affect pharmacy school admissions, but I can say no one at this point in my career would care if I did well in chemistry 😂
Thank you for your reply! I think I will take some refresher courses before I apply. I would say organic chem is my biggest weak point, so I will work on that. Thank you for helping so many people with your advice and videos, take care! @@lydiapatelll
It's so nice to see a pharmacist happy with her work 🥰. I'm a clinical pharmacist in Brazil, I've been working in the field for two years, but I'm so discouraged. We are undervalued and underpaid here. 😢
I am currently Analytical scientist in FAR&D lab , want to purse MS in clinical pharmacy . My question is what are job opportunities after doing MS in clinical pharmacy? & how much we get monthly income ? Thank you so much for the video ! Nice to see you working in hospital!
Your role is obviously extremely important but the academic element to your role seems a little overwhelming for the pay gap between MDs and clinical PharmDs.
It’s definitely a trade off- shorter training/lower stress but also lower ceiling for pharm D.. overall I’m glad I chose this path for the work life balance - I don’t envy the hardworking residents who are in their third trimester and pulling an overnight shift.
What type of research are clinical pharmacists involved in (for example, do you participate in clinical trials?), can pharmacists lead projects as the PI, and is it typical to have time at work to conduct research at big academic medical centers like yours? Thanks for your videos about pharmacy. They are extremely detailed and helpful to someone considering pharmacy school.
Yes to leading research projects! Most think of research as in drug development and pharmacy takes more of a dispensing roles in those, however pharmacist led research can be fun and fulfilling. :-) a few examples- - developing/using/teaching a whole hospital to use beta lactam levels in ICU patients to optimize antibiotic therapy and researching how it changes outcomes (this one is an NIH grant that pays for the pharmacist’s salary) - researching how best to manage anticoagulant therapy for hypothermic patients with a different metabolism - this one was funded partly by project days at our academical medical center - there’s also health equity research, quantifying the value of certain interventions, cost related topics, IT related topics, and anything in between. We’ve found our nursing and physician partners wonderful to collaborate with. Hope this helps!
@@lydiapatelll Thanks! This is very insightful and is the kind of research I would love to work on. I appreciate the examples. I'm a paramedic and 3rd year PhD student in biostats. As much as I love paramedicine, it's not a long-term career option for me. So I'm considering other options for when I finish my PhD. Ideally, it would be a clinical role that would also allow me to do research. PharmD is starting to look like a really attractive option!

I have a few questions if you don't mind: Are you a Pharm D. and are you referred to as doctor? Is your residency in one specific area of the hospital? Are there NICU pharmacist?
