YEEESSSS!!!! This workflow was exactly what I needed to see... This method is sooooo much better than importing the image as a height map. The Maya->ZBrush->Substance Painter workflow is what I've been getting used to and this video is a major help. Thanks Mike! 👌🏾
I prefer to do all of this inside Maya, no need for 3 pieces of software - use 'Reduce' option to create LowPoly, then Target Bake Textures to apply the HiPoly normal to the LowPoly.
Nice workflow.... Havent thought about it that way.... I guess I would have just loaded the stamp as displacement. The polycount should be the same in the render if you bake a displacement for the low poly but I guess it would look way more stretchy then xD
hi mike, can you please guide me that how can i texture this kind of large terrain in substance painter. i have tried it myself but i could not get substance painter type of texture quality in unity.
Hi m.r mike can maya 3d make ultrarealstic mountaine for games like battlefield v or can maya make realstic mountain with lake???? Iam a beginner emviroment designer and i specialist in maya 3d
@@MHTutorials3D Brilliant thanks. Also, is it possible to replicate the density of texture only in the stamp area when using UV placed displacement maps? The iterations just add density everywhere for me and I end up with massive models if I bake the geometry (which i need to) . Thanks
Hi Mike, I really want a terrain generator that I can use as a basis to paint over time Photoshop for concept art....I'm wondering if you have knowledge or information on what would be best used. I.e world creator/world machine? I have sculpted mountains in Maya but I'm unsure of how to texture them quickly and keyshot, which I usually use doesn't seem to promising for vast moutain range texturing. Thanks and awesome videos! :)
hi sir i like your tutorials. my friend asked me . who is the best page in youtube channel for best modeling i refer MH TUTORIALS is the best for modeling. sir who to do simple small city in maya sir
quick question, maybe someone would answear. what would u use this for? can u scale it up and use as an environment. or would this be used as a backdrop. like to give the impression of mountains out in the far distance. :) also great video as always!
Love it i am doing similar stuff for school. I only have one question tho... why did you not sculped your hi poly plane in zbrush with an Alfa or mask?
damn in 3ds max you dont need to do all that round about to zbrush you just create a plane and add turbosmooth to adjust how dense you want the model all procedural .
You can just do the same in Maya tbh. Just reduce the mesh with mayas built in tools, or try to do a polyRemesh; command in MEL, and it will remesh it inside of Maya instead. You have to do it via MEL though, since this function is hidden and unavailable in the GUI and not mentioned in the Maya documentation.
@@synsam12345 the polyRemesh command has only a few options and often produces messed up results... use polyReduce instead. As Mel command or via Menu Tab[Modelling]->Mesh->Reduce
Hi, I don't what to say then, I don't have this issue with any other videos. I tested it even with headphones with a minor improvement. Keep up the good work, I'm an HNC student in the UK and I'm learning a lot with your videos! It would be cool to see an updated tutorial on how to texture a uvmap on substance painter :)
This is actually pretty cool! I was always taught to use nCloth and some random shapes to form the peaks but I was never able to get nice mountains... but this looks easier *-* Also... I'm in search of a new laptop since my 5yr computer isn't cutting it and I don't have a permanent home to set up a desktop... what is a good thing to look for in terms of 3D modeling/rigging work?
That wasn’t just Maya. I think the title needs to be changed because that was false advertising. You are using 3 different programs, not simple, which wasn’t listed before hand of what you were going to use. Because, not everyone has all those programs ready or didn’t realize they needed those programs. Put it in the information. Have titles show up what you are using then just saying it.
The modeling was done in Maya exactly as mentioned. The high poly creation for the normal bake was done in ZBrush and the texturing in Substance Painter. And by the way..... false advertising usually means something is sold, but as I recall you did not pay one cent. I have been creating free tutorials since 2013 and I will continue to do so.As you progress in your 3D career you will start to understand the difference between modeling, texturing, baking etc.
Do you like it ? Let me know :-)
Helps a lot :)
Yeah, Liked a lot
Thanks Bono !
Thank you Sarath !
Nice video! clear and easy to follow steps!
Can you show how to texture it?

Although someone was a beginner, they could follow a your teaching easily! Thanks for teaching me!
You're very welcome!
one of your coolest tutorials yet Mike ;)
Thanks Marty
EXACTLY what I needed right now. Thanks!! More environments, hell yeah I like it.
Coming soon !
Thank you very much for this video, I did not have z brush , I just use a nice texture map and it looked great! very realistic !

Could you upload a tutorial texturing this terrain with substance?
I like the sound of "Full Workflow" 😁😀.

Nice one Mike, any chance you could show us in a follow up tutorial how to apply a realistic texture to it as well? Thanks.
Thanks Jim, I will put it on the list
Thanks. I was hoping for that too.
Mike Hermes Can you please do a tutorial on Victorian curvy furnitures?
NICE!!!! really great tutorial !!

very helpful mike how can i texture it for mobile game i mean only single map, how can i paint all the detils.
Export the UV Snapshot out of Maya and into Photoshop. Then paint it, save it as a diffuse map and apply it to the model in Maya
Hi how do i export this back to maya

thanks mike, can I topographic rise with maya ,if yes ,how?
Really nice! Could you make one for a Canyon environment pls?
Thanks. It is the exact same principle. Just use a different displacement map
HI Mike, great tutorial, is it possible to use the stamp to create embossed text without the surrounding area rising too?
If it rises there is information there. Adjust the map in Photoshop first before using it

Because I make tutorials. This is not about what software I have or what I can do, this is about teaching how to do things in the software mentioned

sumit kohli much more than that bud.
What ?
For basic modeling.
And many more
but Mr.Mike hermes mostly Use Extrude, bevel, edges, vertex, face
