My wife and I had the great luck to visit both spots guided by Virgil Homer in 2012.
He is such a great guide and showed us all the beauty and how delicate and brittle these sites are.
The flute solo he played for us at the Buttes still create goosebumps when I view our video.
Thank you again, Virgil, for this once in a lifetime experience!
And thank you Al for your great video!

@@annraczok670 As I wrote, we were there in 2012, that is 9 years ago, and my short and wiggly video of Virgil's performance was normal PAL TV Format, which is not really viewable compared to the HD and UHD videos of today. Al's video shows everything we saw at that time and even more. I mostly took photos while we were there. If you haven't been there yet, be sure to book Virgil Homer! He's such a nice and knowledgeable guide and concerned to keep the fragile beauty of that area as it is.

Thank you so much for your comments...they mean a lot! I really don't try and bag subscribers. That's not my thing! In fact, my initial intent of posting vids to TH-cam was to provide those who often accompanied my wife and I on adventures easy access to a record of our adventure in order for them to share it with family and friends. I use to prepare DVD's for friends, but who has a DVD player now!
Regarding Knopfler... I met him at a Nike event (I worked for 10 years) in the UK many years ago. He and other members from Dire Straits played at a birthday party for the Nike UK General Manager, Brendan Foster who was a huge sports hero in the UK. LSS... went to many Dire Straits concerts and several solo Knopfler concerts. I am kind of a music nerd! I grew up listening to Carmen the opera (which I love) and have been to 12 Nine Inch Nails concerts... that's quite a range!

I am glad you're in to video as well in addition to photography. Thanks to stabilizers, making video is possibility for me too :) And also glad that you can be in the arms of the mother nature whenever your heart desires :)
When I first saw Mark Knopfler in 2006 concert, he was with Emmylou Harris so it was amazing, but I was shocked to see how half of the venue in Chicago was empty... I think his and Dire Straits amazing music didn't get the attention it deserves much. I am using the free to use music that I like from youtube audio library... May be some day with "Sons of Scotland" :)

Thanks for sharing. This & the Wave are amazing, but wish someone would explain exactly how they were so uniquely smoothly shaped & colored by Nature, so different 'from other areas' gone thru similar glacier melting, rivers drying up, lava, etc... what is it about this smooth rock & the lines of color that didn't happen the same everywhere under those conditions? Truly is beautiful.

    • @Seracdog
      @Seracdog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for the comment! The shape of these unique formations has largely been created by wind. In fact a couple years ago on one of our trips into The Wave we ere buffeted with 70 mph winds. The winds blew my camera which was on a tripod over destroying it. A costly error by me! There is a nice explanation of the geology of the area in Wikipedia. You might want to check it out!

..... I’m no expert but have survived on logic. Being an old hippy with experience creating wildly shaped candles by thrusting hot wax down into cold water, these look very similar. Especially the pancake rocks . It looks like during a very deep flood, liquid hot rock exploded from inside the earth, shot up into the cold water, started to harden, and then slowly smooshed down into either a piled up shape or looser material would be pushed into flowing water shapes with little ridges as it settled. Arches could be formed by taller spurts tipping over and their top landing back on land before hardening. There would have to be very violent constant weird twirling wind for millions of years for this to be done by air.
Either that or ancient buildings got melted by airborne laser weapons and some of them got creative.
      Just sayin’.

You do need a permit for South Coyote Buttes, however obtaining one is much easier then getting one for The Wave. I believe that you do not need a permit for the White Pocket, however you need a vehicle that can handle deep sand.

Thank you very much. I saw in your movie that you've visited both the White Pocket and the South Coyote Buttes. When did you book the guide? Did the same day of the trail after getting the permit or did you book well in advance? Have you paid two tours separately or did you do it all in one day paying the guide once? Sorry if I ask you many questions, but on the internet is not very clear how to do it, at least for me that I am Italian and do not understand your language properly. Thank you for your answer.

    • @Seracdog

South Coyote Buttes requires a permit which can be obtained in advance. Go to the BLM website for the area to get info on obtaining a permit. Since we did not want to have issues getting through deep sand in our vehicle we hired a guide. Our trip was set up several months in advance. The tour company we used was Dream Land Tours based in Kanab, Utah. First thing to do is get a permit then contact the tour company. Good Luck!
