Fire alarm going off at an abandoned building 7/25/17 & 7/26/17 Creepy and Spooky

  • Update 2/22/23: Wow! Thank you for 150k views. I didn’t think many people still come to this video. Yes, I still have the MASS. I replaced the FCI strobe that was there in place of the original MASS strobe with another non-ada MASS strobe.
    Update 6/14/18: This furniture store is now demolished. However, I saved the MASS, the pull stations, and the main fire alarm control panel.
    It's not really a building. It's more of an abandoned furniture store, and it was closed down at least 10 years ago. I'm not sure why it got closed down that time, I bet they forgot to drain the fire alarm control panel. the alarm you heard was a System Sensor MA/SS-24 with Non-ADA strobe set on 800hz steady. Not sure what the alarm was inside the place. The strobes on both alarms were not that bright at all.

      True, fire alarm can go off if there's too much dust in the smoke detector. That's why the workers has to clean it out every time. Since the building was aboanded for years, the dust clouded up the smoke detector.

      MinerGamer one in only . Dust can’t trigger a fire alarm. They have to clean it out every time because the dust stops the smoke detector from detecting smoke. Smoke detectors use a radioactive material called americium. The americium disc completes the circuit when it comes in contact with smoke.

    It's possible that an electrical surge made the panel glitch out. That happened to me once and it happened several times throughout high school. (My system was a Notifier NFW 50 with a FireLite ECC 50/100 and Wheelock speakers and speaker strobes, the vandal resistant ones, and Wheelock RSS strobes. The system at my high school was a Simplex 4005 upgraded from a 2001 that used mostly 2903 and 4050-80 light plates, Simplex 4041, 4050, 4051, 2901-9806, 2901-9838, 4901-9805, and 4901-9822 horns, occaisonally a 4903 horn strobe either mechanical or electronic replacing one of the old alarms, and a few bells and mechanical horns outside, as well as ten Wheelock EHSDL1 horn strobes scattered throughout that sounded just like the electronic Simplex horns.)

    System Sensor Multi Alerts are literally, the scariest sounding fire alarm notification devices ever!!! …especially when you hear multiple MultiAlert devices set to continuous tone, at the same time. They’re also early 90ish trends, as my middle school had them, before the school building got upgraded and remodeled.

    • @jdrs4214
      @jdrs4214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      She’s not faded, just dirty. She needs to be opened up, have her plastics soaked in soapy hot water for a little while, to loosen the elements coating it, to be cleaned off, have her circuit boards re-worked, and have her electrolytic capacitors & corroded resistors replaced.
      To clean the remaining nastiness on the plastic, a pencil eraser, or a hand eraser does the job.
      A fire alarm installer at a school that I worked at, gave me 6 of these System Sensor Multi-Alert horns, as he was yanking them all out for a whole new fire alarm system. Out of the 6 horns that he gave me, one was the faded outdoor ugly-duckling horn, that I reworked, and cleaned up to her original red. Now, she looks, sings, and sparkles, just like all of her other red twin sisters mounted in my man-cave’s garage/shop’s walls. Yes; I did install a fire alarm system myself, just for the fun, and thrills of my weirdness.

  • @SixFlagsNewOrleans
    @SixFlagsNewOrleans 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    System Sensor devices (Such as the Mass) have power reductions that keep the panel running. If the power goes off, The Mass will still be powered and any emergency light in the building. In 2006, The Mass lost this Feature. Though this version is from 1994. The Mass might have gone off due to some dust in the detector or the Mass must have shut off for a second. When the Mass shuts off, it then the system thinks that the Mass is having problems and sends power to it. Happens every time at my high school. The alarm goes off for a bit so the power can be stored. It takes 2 minutes to even a week.

      Actually it’s a Wheelock EH-EL1-WS-24 because it has an older strobe. Since it’s an old alarm, the strobe is very dim. If you didn’t know, notification appliances can tend to be worn out where the horn doesn’t sound but the strobe stays flashing or the whole alarm dies completely. For the EST Genesis, the design is way different than the Wheelock inside and has a brighter strobe

    OK this makes no sense to me...if the building has been abandoned, then the electricity supply would be cut off.. • @sirenfreak57
      @sirenfreak57 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The panel won't die unless power is cut. If not, then it won't. Backup batteries DO drain, however if it kept going off like it is it's obviously on AC power. It might break at some point, but I doubt it.

    • @ExitSign250
      @ExitSign250 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      firefreak57 Yeah, as firefreak57 was saying, unless a given control panel is on battery backup, it cannot "drain" or "die." However the notification appliances can. Your average notification appliance by code must be able to sound for 24 hours straight. And after that they may fail. And by the age of the system, anything can happen.

    • @CoolSimasGuy
      @CoolSimasGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for the explanation! You two know more than I do when it comes to fire alarms. I thought all of panels run on batteries where it dies within weeks and they need to be replaced them. The alarm has only gone off for the couple days, and the fire department must've took care of it later on day two. The dialer was disconnected because the fire department would've came and take care of the alarm the first it went off

      Probably not. Then the fire department should've shut it off then. The fire department is not far at all from the abandoned store. Perhaps, it's pretty close, but they probably didn't do anything about it since it's been abandoned for at least 10 years

      Referring back to this video, there were actually a couple detectors last time I checked the store. So it could be possible that the detectors set it off or wires tripping.

    • @tallo7545
      @tallo7545 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CoolSimasGuy One way to tell if it were one of the detectors was to see if any of them had their lights on, usually the detector that tripped the fire system will have red lights lit on them. I know it's been a while but do you recall seeing a smoke detector with red lights? If so chances are, it was the cause.
