Everybody knows that the quarterback position is the most important in football. And the draft is usually the best place to find your franchise’s QB of the future.
However, not every team is able to get it right when it comes to drafting their next great signal-caller. When they DO get it right, they’re big winners. But when these teams get it wrong and use an early pick on a quarterback that’s a bust, they’re even bigger losers. And boy, has there been plenty of “losers” when it comes to drafting quarterbacks over the years.

@@purejokes3951 Add to what we've both said the fact that whenever a team quickly changes head coaches, offensive coordinators, QB coaches, receivers coaches, and line coaches, a young QB gets mindfucked with new offensive schemes, changing playbooks, and new players. Same with the ones who play in the wrong place for 1-3 years, are then cut or traded elsewhere. Prime example? Vince Young. Look at his stats under his Wiki info at the Football Reference site. He could still abe playing today had he been properly handled after settling into the right team. Good arm. Great runner. Big body. He was a winner. Flip the coin with an example of a benchwarmer headed out of the NFL until a major injury of the starting QB elevated him into the right offensive system with the perfect O coordinator for his skills (with the St. Louis Rams): Kurt Warner, now in the Hall of Fame.

That's why it's not fair to consider Josh Rosen a bust in his career. The 45 sacks weren't entirely his fault as he had a horrible offensive line and a team with bad chemistry.
As a Texans fan I feel terrible for David Carr cause we really screwed his career. He never had a chance to be good in Houston.

It's actually easy to believe why they say this. The main difference between 2017 and 2018 for the Jaguars was Bortles. The defense was top 5, and everything was the same, except Bortles was hotter garbage then usual. He passed for 900 more yards in 2017, in 2017 he had 21 touchdowns to 13 interceptions, along with in 2018 having 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with less games played.
Here's the thing only three QBs were drafted in 2009 Sanchez, Stanford, and Freeman

Stanford is a good qb in Detroit
Sanchez 1 AFC championship and nothing else
Now let's look at the 2012 qb draft class of Bortles Manziel and Bridgewater
Bortles 1 AFC championship and that's it but he started for 4 years
Bridgewater started for two had a horrible injury and early this year was 5 for 5 while drew breese was out
And Manziel two years in the league then out because of off the field issues

I grew up with Kyle Boller in Valencia. Known him since 5th grade. He was our quarterback at Hart High School. I was happy for him making it to the Pros.. really bummed it didnt turn out well for him

“For some reason” - the reason the Broncos started Siemian over Lynch is Lynch couldn’t beat him out for the job. They all but handed the starting job to Lynch going into the 2017 season and he couldn’t take it.

I think it’s unfair to put Carr on any “worst of” or “bust” lists. Sure he probably wouldn’t have been a top tier qb, but we also know he wouldn’t have been as bad as he was if they had just a mediocre OL. At least he was the last first overall draft pick to get a huge signing bonus: $60 million at least well compensated him for being crippled. No "bum" throws for well over 3,500 yards in 4 seasons, almost 20,000 career yards, over 100 TDs vs only 61 picks, and completes 71 percent of his passes in his last full year, all in terrible pain from bad knees. He went out on his shield after 8 NFL years. There are others who would have quit after the first pro ACL injury and retired with their big guaranteed bonus.

As I was saying, they did not take him. Three years ago I suggested Patrick Mahomes to George McCaskey… Strongly suggested. They did not take him either. I would say they would probably do themselves a favor by taking Jacob Eason and let Jacob sit for two years learning the offense. Then we would have our starting quarterback who can throw the long ball and keep defenses honest. However, without three replacements on that offense of line… Leno, Bobby Massey, and James Daniels will kill us again.
The new prototype is big armed, tall quarterbacks who can take a beating… But can see over the line and make reads on the fly.
The Bears offense is not designed for the passing game. They are more designed for the run.

His last year with Dallas was his best year by far and the year they made the playoffs. If only he didn't get in some trouble early that offseason Parcells might have kept him as the starting QB because he was starting to develop in that system.

2002 - Joey Harrington drafted third overall by the Detroit Lions. He barely got 15 wins over four seasons. They guy was awful. David Carr at least showed flashes of brilliance. Joey Harrington was just a busy.
And if you go back to years, Ryan Leaf would be the bust of 1998 and Tim Couch for 1999.

Comes down to Time...Tim Tebow was considered a Failure but yet in One Year got a Starting Position after coming back from a Deficit and making the Playoffs. Even beating the Steelers of all Teams in the Playoffs doing so. Only in the End Losing to Tom Brady. Tony Romo did that same thing in like 10 Year's but is somehow considered a Success SMFH ???. Beating the Lions in the Wild-card under Controversial Circumstances to say the Least. Quincy Carter was a Lot like Tebow, he made the Playoffs in a Fraction of the Time Romo did and if it wasn't for his Drug Problem then he would have took them to a Superbowl, Tony Romo's Stupid QB Rating Never Impressed Me., And Neither did his Monday and Sunday Night Games, you are either a Playoff QB or your Not. I know cause My Team the KC Chief's wasted Great Teams and Players on an Average QB just like Romo for 10 Horrible Year's with a Guy Named Trent Green. Average Sucks! Rather go with a "Fluke" like Quincy Carter or Tim Tebow Anyday. Green and Romo was playing it safe, Too Many Wasted Year's for those Expieriements that should have been Evident from the First Five Seasons. Lamar Jackson showed little promise as a passer tbh and he’s a runner first so it’ll be hard to develop as a passer in Baltimore unless he gets some better pass catchers to help him out
You must not really watch Lamar. A lot of his runs are designed runs. He doesn't scramble unless he has to or he sees a big gap and can pick up 7-8 yards.
Sebastian Rosario: He was a better passer than Darnold, Allen and Rosen. Only Baker had a better passing percentage and Lamar had the fewest turnovers (I'm not counting recovered fumbles) of all of them. They all threw more interceptions than he did. You obviously don't watch the games but listen to the gossip from the talking heads. Lamar ran that offense flawlessly. Most of his runs were designed.
@@williejohnson5172To be fair, Jackson started around the midway point of the season. Remember Mayfield, Rosen, Allen, and Darnold all started before him. So it makes sense that his passer rating wasn't terrible, compared to Allen, Darnold, and Rosen. As a Ravens fan, here is hoping that he can continue to improve.
@@michaelh1603 :Uh no. An average is an average. You can't cherry pick. You can't say in one breath Lamar is inaccurate and then say well his accuracy stats don't count because he played less. Use it for all or don't use it at all. Using your logic if Jackson was such a bad passer, worse than the other 4, then he would have a greater number of screwups and a far far worse passer rating because on average his bad would outweigh the good. He also threw far less interceptions than all the rookie qbs. Another fact that helped his passer rating. Somehow throwing the ball short into the dirt is worse than an interception or pick six. Jackson definitely needs to improve his passing. But his "deficiencies have been way overblown. His style flies in the face of the "new" NFL and will be downplayed at all costs.
You prove my point. This bogus concern about Lamar being inaccurate is just a smoke screen and propaganda. For the golden boys the stats don't matter. As PFF is fond of saying they played beyond their stats. Jackson is 6-1 AFC North champ with less weapons than all of the qbs except maybe Allen, took over an offense that was created on the fly, proved to be the only winner of the group, and yet somehow his inaccuracies mean he's not long for the NFL. The Cards are giving up on Rosen after less than a year. Have you heard a word about Rosen being inaccurate and a bust (other than this site) ? Probably not.. Only he has a bad OL (which is true) and Fitz is washed up. These are the lengths the NFL propaganda machine will go to to prop up their golden boys. Again Lamar has been and will always be held to a different and a much higher standard than the other rookies because Lamar, like Cam, will never be allowed to become an NFL hero. That is the designated job of the golden boys like Darnold and Baker. You think I'm exaggerating? Who holds the rookie TD record?
