When this song became popular, I was teaching middle school choir. And for several years in a row my graduating 9th graders using to sing this for their parents at their graduation ceremony. Having become a mum myself back in May has definately opened the wound of grief again, knowing how much he would have loved to have been a granddad, and how proud he would have been to see his girls (my sister and me) become parents ourselves. Bear in mind he also probably hadn't played it in a while, without the music, and he mentioned it would be quite an emotional performance. He couldn't even get through it in one take...
