That is one of the smoothest and most seamless uses of an odd time signature (5/4 and, in some sections, 3/4) in video game music. I'm sure many people didn't notice there was something strange in the tempo, and that's the beauty of it. Edit: Jack Steer, you're right I didn't notice that! It switches to 3/4 in some sections, so I'm editing my comment to insert that
Jack Steer our boy chris has a lot of aces up his sleeve when it comes to write scores. mu favorite example is his implementation of leitmotifs. look at the dirtmouth theme for example. if we exclude the crossroads, this theme is present in all the major beginning zones of the game (dirtmouth, greenpath, fungal wastes, and even a slight hint in the city of tears), and the more you delve deeper into the kingdom, the more it adapts to the area. in fact, while it is very obvious in greenpath's score, where we can almost hear the full theme, it becomes less obvious in the wastes, where only the first three notes are fully recognisable, and if we progress all the way to the capital, we can hear a very very subtle hint of it, as the two scores share the first note. the other major example of leitmotifs is, obviously, the hollow knight theme. I'm not gonna talk much about that, since it has been covered in an almost endless series of videos, but I wanna mention a really cool detail that I noticed while playing: the hollow knight's theme, which is, by extension, a theme for all the vessels is present in the score for the resting grounds, a place made to honor the dead, as if almost to symbolize that no vessel is actually truly alive, as it has been hollowed out by the void. See, it's those little musical details that make me want to come back and revisit the game from time to time, just to experience how much they add to the game, and how they make it perfect. And if christofer keeps up the good work, _this new game is gonna be amazing_

@@vornamenachname3476 Actually I believe that's just 3/4 since you can count it in 3 :) I'm not 100% sure but I think 5/4 and 3/4 are the only two time signatures used, the only reason I'm not sure is 1:13 might actually be 6/4 due its structure, but two measures of 3/4 could also technically work albeit might read a little sloppy

Doesn't sound too different from some themes in hollow knight like the hornet theme if you ask me, aside from the fact that is a different track. I think this could perfectly fit in HK, no idea what you are talking about.
@@asgoritolinasgoritolino7708 I disagree. like hornets theme (but unlike almost anything else in the game), this track has a lot of strings. if you look at HKs soundtrack, it's much more dark and gloomy (fitting the game perfectly), but in Pharloom - the new land the game will take place in - are much more vibrant regions. if you just take look at the trailer youcan see the place is much more alive - and you can totally hear that here compared to the HK soundtrack.

I often end up listening to this song multiple times in a row because the ending is so intense that it leaves me wanting more. At the end of many of the fights in Hollow Knight a few sad piano notes play as the infection drains out of our enemy and we realize with a twinge of guilt and sadness that we just killed something, often the last remaining shard of life. It’s somber and somewhat sorrowful. After double checking the treehouse footage, the ending of the lace track plays at the end of the lace fight, as she zips away like Hornet did so many times. Those intense notes aren’t just the end of a battle, but the beginning of a fierce and passionate rivalry between Hornet and Lace. I cannot wait to get my hands on this game!

The only other place I have seen a 5/4 time signature is in And Yet It Moves by Fates Warning Both times I only noticed when someone pointed it out to me
The thing with a LOT of songs/pieces/themes in 5/4 such as the mission impossible theme and take five is that the use 2 dotted quarter notes followed up by 2 normal giving the impression that they are actually in 4/4. Chris just did 5/4 without that. Amazing
Pardon me for being sacrilegious, but I like this song more than Hornet's theme from last game. It took me several hearings of each to truly make up my mind, but this song is just perfect. The all strings aesthetic works like a charm, and the song overall paints a more dramatic and hectic personality. This song is as tense as the strings on the instruments used to play it. Lace is definitely not going to be lawful good like Hornet.
@@bradyman-child You have a point, but I believe that Lace fulfills a similar role to Hornet in the new game in terms of her importance since we know this is the only boss to have two boss fights (like Hornet in the first game). Therefore, I drew a connection between the two.

To contrast how impressive that is You Say Run from the My Hero Academia soundtrack only took like 8 consecutive listens to stop vibrating, so yeah, pretty damn good.

I did the same thing, I was cautious to buy hollow knight because I knew nothing about it so I watched full playthroughs of it. I'm gonna try and not watch any videos on Silksong because I want to experience stuff on my own through trial and error. it didn't ruin hollow knight for me, and I think I had a good reason for doing it because I didn't want to buy a random game knowing nothing about it (although I may have gone a bit overboard) but now that I'm a big fan of hollow knight, I need no convincing to buy Silksong so I should be able to go into it mostly blind (aside from footage already released that I watched because I couldn't help myself.)

It switches to 3/4 in some sections, so I'm editing my comment to insert that
And it switches to 3/4 in a few sections. Very cool stuff --- you don't usually expect to hear complex rhythms in video game music.
And if christofer keeps up the good work,
_this new game is gonna be amazing_
I thought i heard something weird (but subtle), i'm happy i'm not stupid
Idk how you noticed lol, it felt fast but just thought it was like 240 bpm

Doesn't sound too different from some themes in hollow knight like the hornet theme if you ask me, aside from the fact that is a different track. I think this could perfectly fit in HK, no idea what you are talking about.
The only difference is that you know it's not from HK. It fits that game as well
@@asgoritolinasgoritolino7708 I disagree. like hornets theme (but unlike almost anything else in the game), this track has a lot of strings. if you look at HKs soundtrack, it's much more dark and gloomy (fitting the game perfectly), but in Pharloom - the new land the game will take place in - are much more vibrant regions. if you just take look at the trailer youcan see the place is much more alive - and you can totally hear that here compared to the HK soundtrack.

The delay hasn’t stopped team cherry from giving us another date.
And maybe they would finish it fast after they thought it would be delayed?

But this isn't even Hornets theme so there isn't a problem with liking them both (this is Lace's theme)
@@bradyman-child You have a point, but I believe that Lace fulfills a similar role to Hornet in the new game in terms of her importance since we know this is the only boss to have two boss fights (like Hornet in the first game). Therefore, I drew a connection between the two.
