"The year is 2034, Silksong is still in development. Society collapsed long ago but three rogue game devs stand against adversity in their quest to finish the game."
the year is 2057, silsong released in 2049, however is still getting regular updates and they are working on DLC 6, the knight is a playable character found after you 100% the game, and the hollow knight is playable after you 101% it. Then finally at 200% completion you get to play, as hornet.
Challenge Accepted: I believe Silksong's plot will be one of overcoming self-doubt after failure. Hornet was captured, and has fallen to the bottom of the world, essentially at rock-bottom (as the common phrase would go) this song has a morose and "somber" (quoted from TC themselves) quality to it. This is Hornet's figurative and physical rock-bottom. She has no friends, and is alone, likely in a pretty bad location based on the name of the town. The aim of her journey is to reach the top of Pharloom, where a Citadel apparently awaits her. She and the other travellers are referred to as Pilgrims, seeking self-improvement by climbing to the top of the world, so Hornet's journey upward will possibly be likened to overcoming her failures. (also to note, she was around at the fall of Hallownest as a child, so has gone through some shit in her past too)

I love how something as simple as a change in instrumentation (violin & harp vs viola & piano, in terms of overall soundtrack) can cause such an entirely different feeling and mood. Gorgeous as ever. One thing all the fans can agree on is that the music is what really brought Hollowknight to life, Larkin truly provided the atmosphere the game needed. Music is what really conveys the emotions you're intended to feel, visuals alone can't cut it. I can't wait to hear more Silksong ost, especially given that while Hallownest was a sad old dead kingdom, Pharloom is alive and bright.
You know I bought Hollow Knight for the price I paid purely for the art work and sound track. The great game was just a bonus to me. Well worth the money.
The thing about Dirtmouth is that it was a town that still had warmth. Elder Bug talks about how he's all alone but as the game progresses you participate in bringing everyone back home. And if you give him the flower, he remarks on how dreams are not so bad after all. It's a town that can potentially recover. Especially with choices like banishing the Troupe. Nymm appears and his accordion playing fills the town with an even more hopeful tone. Everyone is managing and has adapted well to the life there. This seems more like everyone has completely given up hope, with Hornet being the only one left with some sort of goal. Like someone else mentioned, this sounds a lot more like Resting Grounds in terms of atmosphere

I think the story will be more constructed. With hollow knight, Team Cherry didn’t really know what they were doing, and left some loose ends. The “hollow” thing might have been chosen to make the story make more sense. Now that they have experience and a story to go off of, you’ll have more clear instructions and a precise story, likely with many endings to make it less constrictive.

Personally I find the first half as somber and sad, like you've hit rock bottom (You kinda have, in the context of the game). The second half sounds hopeful, like a feeling of "You can only go up from here". I don't think its indicative of a great tragedy.
I was worried that the soundtrack to the sequel of Hollow Knight would not live up to the beautifulness and masterfulness of the latter's, but clearly I was wrong to doubt Mr. Larkin's massive skill because this sounds... just incredible. Extremely moving and bewitching piece. This soundtrack is going to be massive, just like the game as a whole
If Silksong is anywhere remotely close to the level of quality as Hollow Knight I am seriously hoping the team displays more confidence in their product and prices it $20 or higher. I genuinely believe Hollow Knight was worth minimum $30 after all the free expansions
Whoops I think you made a typo there! You see where you said $30 I think you meant $60 because this masterpiece is worth more than most AAA games I have played. It's okay though, even the best of us make typos.
I'm going to be 100% honest, those strings at 0:51 hit me harder in the heart than anything in the first game, yes that includes the Hollow Knight's theme. I can already tell Silksong is going to be a massive improvement upon the original, and at least music wise, could be the best sequel in terms of improving upon the strengths of the original. Thank you Mr. Larkin for all of the masterpieces you've given us.
It's Hollow Knight's 5th anniversary, and I finally caved and listened to this song in full (been avoiding this since reveal because I wanted to go into the game as blind as possible and I thought Silksong would release soon. Lol.) The part from 1:43 to the end is so beautiful, it makes me want to cry. I cannot wait for this game.
This piece is absolutely fantastic, I got goosebumps all over. Christopher you’re doing an wonderful job, thank you for always delivering such beautiful music :) Man I can’t wait to put Silksong’s whole ost on repeat like a maniac!! And crying at 2am because of it
I'm going to stay a while in Bonebottom the first time I get there. For about 9 minutes I'll just be contemplating life, thanking God that the game released and thanking game developers for existing. Until then, we have to be patient, we're going to get the game when it's ready... It's going to be perfect
I am dying. Christopher Larkin has killed me. I'm going to cry when I play this game. I'm so fucking excited for Silksong I have to stop thinking about it sometimes. I haven't felt this way about games until Team Cherry came along.
He commented that 2 years ago, they are still working on it,just proving how much they want it to be good, and we will shed even more tears considering it is improving every day
Oh. My. God This whole song is an unforgettable masterpiece, way before the game it's displayed in will even come out... there's just something about that just truly captures the depressing name of the town it so well describes, and like I said, the game ain't even out yet! And damn those strings are insane. But to me the best part about it is the final note, usually we get a signature 5 note leitmotif at the end of these types of songs, but with this, it is just one last resounding note... Incredible
Absolutely fantastic! You outdo yourself and bring one of the best aspects of Hollow Knight and I'm sure this game to life. This rings out like Enter Hallownest did, but with a more somber, calmer, and quietly tense tune. I can't wait.
Polishing it is better than releasing it faster anyway,Just like with STALKER 2 Though even if people pull me away from that thought(Wether seriously or Jokingly),Team cherry would still have my word of wait and trust
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss! I've been waiting for any kind of Silksong anything for months and we finally we have something! Thank you Christopher Larkin for blessing my ears with this masterpiece!
it almost feels ironic that they gave us such a somber track as a preview, the music feels like a representation of how actually miserable waiting for games is. Really hoping i'll get to hear the full soundtrack sometime soon, because even just THIS is incredible.
i have no idea why, but every note in this song shoots me in the heart. it is so beautiful. i love it so much. genuinelt moving and its just a town theme lol
this soundtrack displays a sorrow and loss but yet some comfort representing bone bottom itself, a place where others have been lost, and have possibly passed away unable to accomplish their goals which is sorrowful but yet they found a resting place on their endless journey which is kind of comforting.
Christofer Larkin is back and he brings his magic with him. What a legend. (also can i say ALL HOLLOW KNIGHT ALBUM COVER ARTS ARE AMAZING AND THIS IS JUST NEXT LEVEL?!)
The somberness in this is very exciting love the atmosphere this is going for, I’d love to see how it fits in action, but it already has me loving the variety. 2 songs in and I’m already invested...I mean I was invested from the start but still
Bonebottom is first town in Silksong. It's theme in C Minor. Dirthmouth is first town in Hollow Knight. It's theme is too in C Minor. They are so similiar.
This song reminds me of the exact kind of feelings that made me fall in live with the first game. It has that same kinda vibe of haunting, melancholy beauty. Plus it just sounds gorgeous!
Someday, this will be an amazing track to experience in game. How far away this game is, I know not. Whether its announced this week or this decade, I know not. But when it comes out, it will be a masterpiece. That, I am certain of. Christopher Larkin, you are a masterful composer, and I will certainly grab this album when it releases. Without you, Hollow Knight would not have been what it became today, and presumably silksong as well. Good work!
When I play Silksong (WHEN, because I refuse to die before it comes out), I’m going to have a seat and listen to the area themes every time I enter a new one. Just gonna siddown and stay a spell.
I can't wait to be running (her normal walk cycle is called running, and walk is triggered in towns, and now we got a separate button for sprint), but I can't wait to be running through moss grotto, and all of the sudden I'll start walking and I'll hear this music. It's going to feel so fulfilling to finally hear the music in game.
Christopher Larkin, you are without a doubt one of the best videogame composers I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Keep up the great work, I look forward to hearing more of your work.
Damn I can't believe everyone has been waiting for this game for almost three years. just played hollow knight for the first time so I'm joining the wait super late.
Its November 11th, 2024, I've come to terms with the fact that Silksong isn't coming out this year. Maybe next year will finally be the year we get to play this game..
What I find amazing about these two previewed tracks, is how Christopher adds the strings seemingly the higher you climb in the game. At the bottom, we have Bonebottom, which starts with primarily piano. Piano was the primary instrument in Hollow Knight (we go deeper in that game). Lace, which I imagine is a somewhat early boss, mostly just has string instruments. I love that he did this. The higher we climb, the soundtrack follows with more and more stringed instruments. Beautiful.
Larkin came out of nowhere and composed my favorite OST of all time in Hollow Knight. The madman is quite literally about to go even further beyond with this game’s soundtrack.
Man, the piano arpeggio at 1:08 is incredibly emotional, bringing in the b2 in a minor key as opposed to the #6 often used in Hollow Knight's music really contrasts the hope most songs in that game had. This instead has a much darker sound than most of Hollow Knight ever did, which is phenomenal. Cannot wait to hear what else Christopher Larkin has in store for Silksong.
Though completely different in tone to it, this song has the same "swell" effect the City of Tears one does at 1:42, which makes me think it'll be similar in that the first part of Bonebottom is small caves and rooms, then you go into the main area of Bonebottom, and see this vast, run down town... and the music swells... Christopher Larkin is an amazing composer.
This is hauntingly beautiful. I can't believe how this doesn't have more views. It's been a while since I've listened to this sample, and I remember listening to it for hours like 2 years ago. I'm really excited to hear this in Silksong. From the looks of it, this game is gonna be ineffable.
Just wow, the raw emotion and sense of lonely isolation hits with such impact. Upon listening to this I was moved to tears. Such beauty you have masterfully composed. You should be so proud of your self Christopher. Your work speaks in volumes.
Oh dude this game is gonna be equally good or more just by listening the music you are doing cant wait to see what our little friends adventures is gonna be what is gonna be the story judging for the music it will be a super adventure. Best game i ever played in a long time and im sure hornet story is gonna be so good
My favorite part is 1:25 it gets me everytime is the harp doing that new melody? It’s so captivating and I can’t wait to just sit in bonebottom as hornet ... just listening to this thinking wow this journey up farloom is gonna be incredible, a journey, depressing(I’ve always liked things that have saddened undertones), and overall a breath of fresh air. Amazing job team cherry and Christopher Larkin keep up this amazing work! ❤️
My favorite part is from the beginning until 1:25 . I loved the first beat but starting 1:25 it lost its catchyness. I dunno what the instruments are called but it’s funny how ppl can be different
This reminds me so much of the soundtrack for The Village by James Newton Howard--in a very good way. I consider that one of the best soundtracks I've ever listened to, and the fact that I've found something else just as good feels like a miracle. You're truly my new favorite composer. Thank you for all the amazing music.
my friend Christopher, you change my life with your music for hollow knight, i hear this and my heart is full of feelings, I swear I'm not exaggerating, thank you, I look forward to enjoying your full job at Silksong
This is so chill . so i hear this mostly at night and look at the stars.maybe this is a bit cringe , but sometimes i cry because of that. it's simply wonderful
It is almost like a beautiful transition. Transitioning from the somber piano tunes of Hollow knight to the long strokes of string instraments which are the backbone of silksong.

this game deserves millions, in cash.
『ASideOfCriticism』
No.
It deserves BILLIONS.
Team Cherry, as Godmaster proved, do not want cash, they want our souls
Veteranussooo
Very true
Veteranussooo they deserve our souls xD
No cost too great
I was worried that the soundtrack to the sequel of Hollow Knight would not live up to the beautifulness and masterfulness of the latter's, but clearly I was wrong to doubt Mr. Larkin's massive skill because this sounds... just incredible. Extremely moving and bewitching piece.
This soundtrack is going to be massive, just like the game as a whole
Foop2006pizza 202 hollow knight is already the best indie game and in general one of the best game of all time,Silksong is gonna be stellar
Let's be real. We're all gonna start crying when we hear this in game.
Bro I’m crying right now, it’s so good
Assuming we're still alive when it comes out
I was not ready for the strings to hit at 2:16. Wow.
I. . . think I need to thunk for a while
If Silksong is anywhere remotely close to the level of quality as Hollow Knight I am seriously hoping the team displays more confidence in their product and prices it $20 or higher. I genuinely believe Hollow Knight was worth minimum $30 after all the free expansions
Whoops I think you made a typo there! You see where you said $30 I think you meant $60 because this masterpiece is worth more than most AAA games I have played. It's okay though, even the best of us make typos.
Whoops another typo I think you mean 600 this will be one of if not the best game I will have ever played
late response, but Team Cherry mentioned that they want the price to be affordable for everyone, so its probably staying near the $20 mark
@Withered BIDA thank god, it’s hard to get games for yourself as a no job 16 year old
@@3twibles4sweetrevenge you will be in your 30s then it comes out my guy
I don't care how long I have to wait, this game will be THE GAME OF THE CENTURY
IKR BRO THIS SONG IS SUCH A BANGER!!!
Definitely not this century, though.
Imagine still believing in Silksong
Because it's going to come out in 2101
Mmhmm, the next century
I'm going to be 100% honest, those strings at 0:51 hit me harder in the heart than anything in the first game, yes that includes the Hollow Knight's theme. I can already tell Silksong is going to be a massive improvement upon the original, and at least music wise, could be the best sequel in terms of improving upon the strengths of the original. Thank you Mr. Larkin for all of the masterpieces you've given us.
It definitely helps that these are recorded with real instruments and aren't synthesized afaik
it's a crime that this has less views than lace, definitely my favorite Christopher Larkin song
fake strings is something that you don't realize how much it detracts from the music until you hear comparable music with real strings.
2020 will be the year
Let's hope
i mean a *lot* of good things are planned for 2020 other than silksong, like terraria 1.4
Yeah, can't wait for Ghost of Tsushima, Terraria 1.4 and Elden Ring too.
SOON™
@@fiso64 Elden Ring, Silksong, Ori2, Doom Eternal
What a year
It's Hollow Knight's 5th anniversary, and I finally caved and listened to this song in full (been avoiding this since reveal because I wanted to go into the game as blind as possible and I thought Silksong would release soon. Lol.)
The part from 1:43 to the end is so beautiful, it makes me want to cry. I cannot wait for this game.
This piece is absolutely fantastic, I got goosebumps all over. Christopher you’re doing an wonderful job, thank you for always delivering such beautiful music :)
Man I can’t wait to put Silksong’s whole ost on repeat like a maniac!! And crying at 2am because of it
This is surely one of your best songs in my opinion! This area is gonna be something truly magic
I'm going to stay a while in Bonebottom the first time I get there. For about 9 minutes I'll just be contemplating life, thanking God that the game released and thanking game developers for existing. Until then, we have to be patient, we're going to get the game when it's ready... It's going to be perfect
You’ve got the spirit
I am dying. Christopher Larkin has killed me. I'm going to cry when I play this game. I'm so fucking excited for Silksong I have to stop thinking about it sometimes. I haven't felt this way about games until Team Cherry came along.
Oh yes, happiest tears I'll shed alongside finding a soulmate.
He commented that 2 years ago, they are still working on it,just proving how much they want it to be good, and we will shed even more tears considering it is improving every day
Same here bud!!
how's it going
@@fish3975 got really drunk and sentimental 2 years ago and I still do it some nights. Still waitin lmao
I hope this has leitmotifs that we'll hear throughout the whole soundtrack because its one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard
Oh. My. God
This whole song is an unforgettable masterpiece, way before the game it's displayed in will even come out... there's just something about that just truly captures the depressing name of the town it so well describes, and like I said, the game ain't even out yet!
Getting the music 4 years before a real release date is craaazy
The piano solo at 1:25 followed by the harmonizing strings at 1:42 sounds incredible.
thats a harp solo lol
@@taffles7498 I think that you're right.
@@rasul01 that s. pretty cool
It's very somber. All the instruments work together in a very nice way.
The official theme of Silksong news deficiency.
I bet some people here have listened to this for longer than they will actually spend in Bonebottom in game.
Amazing as usual :)

Reminder : The longer we wait, the better Silksong will me
Exactly, and I feel like the more Silksong gets delayed, the more team cherry wants to perfect Silksong in every way possible.
Polishing it is better than releasing it faster anyway,Just like with STALKER 2
Though even if people pull me away from that thought(Wether seriously or Jokingly),Team cherry would still have my word of wait and trust

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss! I've been waiting for any kind of Silksong anything for months and we finally we have something! Thank you Christopher Larkin for blessing my ears with this masterpiece!
*About to cry*
It’s great to see it, yeah! One of the big things to look forward to right here.
Do you think it sounds a bit weird underwater?
0:52
>When the violin kicks in just right.
it almost feels ironic that they gave us such a somber track as a preview, the music feels like a representation of how actually miserable waiting for games is. Really hoping i'll get to hear the full soundtrack sometime soon, because even just THIS is incredible.
Soundtrack of waiting for silksong
@@PEIIIKA literally 😭
I thought I liked the Dirtmouth theme, this just takes it to a whole new level of somber. Can't wait to spend hours sitting at the bench in Bonebottom
*DAMNNIT, I THOUGHT THIS NEW KINGDOM WOULDN'T MAKE ME CRY EVERY TWO HOURS*
Yeah it’s make u cry every 2 seconds
This is actually such a beautiful song. And so emotion evoking too, I can't help but feel sad or sorrowful just by listening to it.
i have no idea why, but every note in this song shoots me in the heart. it is so beautiful. i love it so much. genuinelt moving and its just a town theme lol
i also go "heheheheheheheheh" when i see bonebottom
I mean just like dirtmouth
Same dude a town theme has no right getting me this emotional
this soundtrack displays a sorrow and loss but yet some comfort representing bone bottom itself, a place where others have been lost, and have possibly passed away unable to accomplish their goals which is sorrowful but yet they found a resting place on their endless journey which is kind of comforting.
I cant express in words how much hollow knight changed my life
Same
I'll treasure the experience I had with HK forever.
Christofer Larkin is back and he brings his magic with him. What a legend.
(also can i say ALL HOLLOW KNIGHT ALBUM COVER ARTS ARE AMAZING AND THIS IS JUST NEXT LEVEL?!)
Hello Again, Bonebottom.
i got this recommended to me and i've never seen this one before, so i freaked out until i noticed the '4 years ago'
This song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of waiting 5 years for a game to come out with no release date in sight.... :(
Still, Silksong will come
The somberness in this is very exciting love the atmosphere this is going for, I’d love to see how it fits in action, but it already has me loving the variety. 2 songs in and I’m already invested...I mean I was invested from the start but still
This song is what “everything is falling apart” sounds like
Bonebottom is first town in Silksong. It's theme in C Minor. Dirthmouth is first town in Hollow Knight. It's theme is too in C Minor. They are so similiar.
The majority of the themes in hollow knight are in Cm, I hope he doesn't change that in silksong.
Uh, what? Dirtmouth and a lot of the others are Eminor if anything
dirtmouth was really the ONLY town in hollow knight
@@galyxx226 mantis village, city of tears

This song reminds me of the exact kind of feelings that made me fall in live with the first game. It has that same kinda vibe of haunting, melancholy beauty.
Plus it just sounds gorgeous!
Everytime I hear the part of 1:25 till the end it always makes me drop a tear... It's just so beautiful
When I clicked I knew that the song was going to be good, but not THAT good
As a human, and especially as a musician, I thank you Chris.
Holy shit, this is already on the level of the best Hollow Knight music... The part at 1:50. Wow
This song will definitely be used in some kind of lore cutscene or place. So excited for Silksong, especially the music.
It says when it plays in the title…
Hehe, good point.😅
Christopher Larkin, you are without a doubt one of the best videogame composers I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Keep up the great work, I look forward to hearing more of your work.
I'm OBSESSED with this song. It is so freakin good.
Damn I can't believe everyone has been waiting for this game for almost three years. just played hollow knight for the first time so I'm joining the wait super late.
Don't worry, you're in the first 1/5th of waiting most likely :__:
@@gu3z185 awesome, I definitely don't want to miss out lol
I feel so blessed for having Hollow knight. Thanks in no small part in your amazing soundracks Mr. Larking. I can't thank you enough.
Its November 11th, 2024, I've come to terms with the fact that Silksong isn't coming out this year. Maybe next year will finally be the year we get to play this game..
we are creator
What I find amazing about these two previewed tracks, is how Christopher adds the strings seemingly the higher you climb in the game. At the bottom, we have Bonebottom, which starts with primarily piano. Piano was the primary instrument in Hollow Knight (we go deeper in that game).
Lace, which I imagine is a somewhat early boss, mostly just has string instruments. I love that he did this. The higher we climb, the soundtrack follows with more and more stringed instruments.
Beautiful.
Legit didn't think Larkin would be able to surpass the original game's OST. This track alone proved me wrong, and oh, how glad I am...
Larkin came out of nowhere and composed my favorite OST of all time in Hollow Knight. The madman is quite literally about to go even further beyond with this game’s soundtrack.
Every time, I think Silksong will get news. And I always end up back here….
This finally gets 1 million views. I'm so excited to experience this in-game. it can't be too long now, surely!
Just wow, the raw emotion and sense of lonely isolation hits with such impact. Upon listening to this I was moved to tears.
Such beauty you have masterfully composed. You should be so proud of your self Christopher. Your work speaks in volumes.
Christopher Larkin! I LOVE all your soundtrack! I cannot wait to hear the rest of your Silksong soundtrack! This piece is amazing!!!
The soundtrack to the village is top tier.
It already feels as though I’ve heard it a million times, and still love it
my friend Christopher, you change my life with your music for hollow knight, i hear this and my heart is full of feelings, I swear I'm not exaggerating, thank you,
I look forward to enjoying your full job at Silksong
That single piano note around 2:04 mixed with the elegant strings sent a shiver down my back.
Same thing, sounds very nostalgic and soulful😔
Your music is my favorite thing ever
This is so chill . so i hear this mostly at night and look at the stars.maybe this is a bit cringe , but sometimes i cry because of that. it's simply wonderful
That's not cringe, that's earnest!
thats so beautiful, oah, man, i have a hole in my heart now.
It is almost like a beautiful transition. Transitioning from the somber piano tunes of Hollow knight to the long strokes of string instraments which are the backbone of silksong.
