I always thought the purpose for polygamy is a situation where a woman is baron and the man still wants children, so he takes on another for purpose of breeding to extend his family. He as the husband is supposed to take care of all to the fullest. Muslims as an example who partake in multiple wives rub me the wrong way. Many take on wives for the purpose of just wanting more or different options and half the time, they don't take care for all these women and their households.
