Truth. I think that as blacks we're disconnected from each other really. We seek love in all the wrong places bc many of us turn to parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, godparents, friends, neighbors, affiliates from church, work etc only to feel alone. If Mothers held their daughters and listened to them when they spoke or fathers, stayed home from time to time, raised their sons, and observed, they'll learn that their child is just seeking unconditional love and to feel like they have guidance and protection. Most of our kids in the community do not have the protection. Far too many abuses occur with our kids due to neglect and that is a huge epidemic. Raising kids doesn't end at 18 years old. As long as youre a parent, you have obligations and should always be learning so you can instill knowledge and wisdom into your children regardless of age. We are always students who should be open to absorbing and expanding. We are just so disconnected and not as codified or close to one another which is why young ladies like this and so many young boys grow up hopeless, lost and desperate. Anyhow. We've got a long long long way to go, yet, all that we do is exploit and hurt one another, record and broadcast it for the world to watch.

I understand that all may not be aware of the complete journey that was documented online. However, this woman is very culpable at displaying a lot of negative behaviors towards others during being with nature boy and even after the fact. Highly sexually promiscuous. I was rooting for her at once because I know what it's like to be a victim of DV however I see a lot of narcissistic traits in her as well and I study psychology. Due to the fact that she may come across as somewhat intelligent/articulate, some may assume the best but you have to remember that manipulation is very cunning and conniving. I'm from Brooklyn, Ny and I know someone that went through a lot of what this woman did, in Belize. It was a different community, but it sounds the same, according to my friends account. Although, she never mentioned any sexual contact. Before she physically joined the group in Central America, the group came to Brooklyn to take part in several street festivals, to sell their raw vegan food. Anyway... they had a meet and greet, I guess to recruit, that I was invited to. Now, since my friend escaped, after having the same issues with her travel documents as this young woman, I've said to her, I saw what they were about in the first 3 minutes in the group's presence. Back to the meet and greet, I walk in and the first thing I see is an older gentleman, about 70, sitting on a makeshift throne: a wicker chair, with a high round back, and the throne was up on a platform, about 12" high. Actually, in hindsight, it took me a fraction of a second to size them up. I said to myself, "Colette, be polite, have some food and bounce." I have to say that my friend did see things, much like this woman, that the group offered, that she wanted in her life. I would ask anyone, "but at what cost?" I wonder if Velvet ignored red flags, initially?

I'm a 22-year-old mom who loves gardening, community, and getting back to our ancestral roots. That older guy thought I was an easy target I guess. Truth. I think that as blacks we're disconnected from each other really. We seek love in all the wrong places bc many of us turn to parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, godparents, friends, neighbors, affiliates from church, work etc only to feel alone. If Mothers held their daughters and listened to them when they spoke or fathers, stayed home from time to time, raised their sons, and observed, they'll learn that their child is just seeking unconditional love and to feel like they have guidance and protection. Most of our kids in the community do not have the protection. Far too many abuses occur with our kids due to neglect and that is a huge epidemic. Raising kids doesn't end at 18 years old. As long as youre a parent, you have obligations and should always be learning so you can instill knowledge and wisdom into your children regardless of age. We are always students who should be open to absorbing and expanding.
We are just so disconnected and not as codified or close to one another which is why young ladies like this and so many young boys grow up hopeless, lost and desperate. Anyhow. I have to say that my friend did see things, much like this woman, that the group offered, that she wanted in her life. I would ask anyone, "but at what cost?" I was so for her success when she was in her self healing. Her flip flopping is why I am skeptical about her. I think in the moments she is doing what's best for her.
