If you listen to it more than once and understand the meaning of the words, you will see its not just showing off everything he can do vocally but that the way he sings it emphasizes the meaning of the words. He sings this with his whole heart and soul.

Yes I agree. It’s usually a more serene song. But the more I listened to it it became so powerful and commanding….to praise the Lord. After the growl, which after looking at the lyrics understood why he emphasized it there, the song became so powerful and victorious sounding. So, yes, I’ve always loved the more traditional sound, especially by Mariah Carey and David Phelps. But this one grew on me. Now I like both!I was waiting to hear your take on his voice/singing at first. Seemed a bit raw I guess. But as it went on was great. But overall I liked it!! Thanks for your reaction. Merry Christmas!❤

You didn't think Dan's singing was heartfelt? Really? I am in my 60's and I love traditional Christmas music, but this song touched my heart(like most of Dans music does) He used the more intense growl where the lyrics say "all within us will praise His holy name" The growl for even the evil in this world, within us, will praise him. I think this is one of his best songs yet! I love it! I've listened to it so many times now and still am not tired of it. I wish I could sing this song to our Savior like Dan does. ❤❤❤

Ever felt Christmas magic like this? Death metal growls in the Vienna Waltz '" Holy Night". I have already seen professional dancers dancing to this song. But with Dan's baritone, both haunting and clear, that reaches a new level. Amidst dark tones, the word "peace" rings high and clear. Victor The Guitar Nerd is brilliant. His solo is amazing. Dan weaves a tapestry of delightful or frightening sound surprises into the song, strategically placing them to amplify the meaning of the lyrics.

The first time I listened to this version of my favourite Christmas hymn I was caught off guard. Now I can't stop listening. Dan's changing of the vocal techniques almost from word to word is no coincidence and puts a deeper layer to the message... A thundering growl on the words "let all within us.." is fitting considering we all have our portion of darkness inside which at some point must reach towards the light. And his voice at the end of the song is pure light.

I love how honest you are with your reactions. It's clear you appreciate what Dan did, but it's not really done to your taste. And that's perfectly fine! We wouldn't have the variety of music we have if everyone did the same thing. I personally love the upbeat tempo of this. (I hate when songs sound like dirges.) And I think Dan's emphatic vocals are perfect for this song. But that's my opinion, and it's no more valid than anyone else's.

The first impression I had a few days ago hearing Dan, was, there is a vast crowd of folks who need to hear this interpretation and be afraid and stay afraid until they worship the Lord our God with trembling fear. And in Truth, fall on their knees, recognizing His gift of redemption and praise His Holy Name. To repent, turn from their wickedness which is harming our nation 🇺🇸, indeed, the whole world. IMO 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I've always thought that despite the awesome voice and techniques, Dan's true talent is as a storyteller through music. He gives lyrics life, particularly on songs with Christian themes whereupon he approaches them as a warrior for God. I love "Oh Holy Night" and on first hearing also found the vocal ticks a bit jarring but on matching them with the lyrics on subsequent listens, they not only made sense but made the message more powerful. Sometimes is it easy to forget when hearing familiar Christmas carols the meaning of them. Dan doesn't let you forget.

Ken, Ken, Ken... I've watched you for a long time and most often agree with you. "O Holy Night" is my all-time favorite Christmas song. I've listened to hundreds of renditions that are predictable and boring and just like the last one except for a note here or there changed just for effect. I have to say, when I heard this version from Dan, I had that same euphoric, almost giddy feeling I got the first time I heard him sing Amazing Grace. I love it. It's now my favorite over Carrie Underwood, David Phelps, all of them. I am eternally grateful that you old fuddy-duddy ain't in charge of what style of O Holy Nights is allowed... 🤣🤣

I think he did a hair flip during Victor’s guitar solo but left it out of the final edit perhaps because he did feel it was out of place for this particular video. I know I’ve seen his hair caught in his chin hairs like this right after a hair flip in other videos.

I am a huge fan of Dan for several years now and I get it. My first listen I was left feeling unsettled and didn't know how I felt about it. First time I've not liked something he's done. However, I've listened to it numerous times since that first one and I have grown to not only appreciate it but now I love it. Once I got over the initial shock, I started looking at it as a new song I hadn't heard before. You can't compare it to what we're accustomed to. And Dan doesn't do things to show off, he does them for effect. Traditional things get old and stale and lose their impact. We can always count on Dan to shake things up and get us to pay attention.

Ken, when I saw that you were reacting, I said, "Oh, crap." When I first heard Dan's version, I didn't like it at all. That made me sad because he's my favorite vocalist. There was too much going on, and there were too many gimmicks. You said exactly what I felt. But, I listened to it many, many more times until it finally made sense and sat right with me. Now I like it and enjoy listening to it. To most of his die-hard fans, it's epic from the start. I consider myself die-hard, but I had to work through it to get to that point. I know I'm not alone. I hope you and others will take the time to listen to it often and to gradually accept Dan's version as he imagined it. Have a wonderful Christmas, Ken! See you next year!

Immediately when i heard your intro, i thought 'whoops, he's not going to like that growl'.
Well, that's ok too, it's Dan in a nutshell, he caught me off guard too at first.😂
But Ken, you know Dan well enough by now, to know he's not the vanilla kind of guy, he's more of a chili, pepper and ginger kind of guy - maybe with a tiny sprinkle of vanilla thrown in now and then.
I doubt any other singer than Dan would have the guts, to do what he just did with a song, which so many people are so attached to having in a certain way.
A lot of people have so many preconceived ideas and opinions about how spiritual devotion is supposed to be delivered, and mixing fryscreams and deathgrowls into a Christmas hymn like this one - like, it shouldn't work, but somehow it does - in my world anyway.
But yeah, it's not for everybody.

Ken - when I heard this song the first time and heard the death growl/ shake- I stopped it and looked at the lyrics- the line he did that was “ let all within us ( growl/ shake) praise His Holy Name “ - he was emphasizing with his voice that every demon - even those within us- will tremble and then praise Him! - that’s my take away and it was glorious! We did this song in church this morning- and after Dan’s version, I was like this is kind of wimpy and not gloriously praising!😂

I see my love of the artist Dan Vasc is because of his emotional ties to what he does and how clear the lyrics usually are heard which tie directly in to the presentation. With all the wonder and triumph the birth of Our Saviour deserves. This actually reminded me of his Gethsemane in the way I felt the emotion coming through his singing. A brilliant performance that lifted and dropped me with emotion as the story unfolded. By the end I felt empowered and so grateful in my faith. Dan and Victor are amazing artists and they gave an amazing performance. To be truthful I was disappointed in this reaction. I myself see a lot of emotion in this. It was interesting to me to hear you say the first part seemed tense as though he was holding back and that caused tension. This rendition will not be for everybody. But I value your analysis as I know next to nothing about singing and like to hear you share what you see. Like many others on first hearing my traditional sensibilities were a bit challenged; but on the second go-round felt that the lyrics had inspired the divergence from a more traditional approach to bring more focus to an important message. The emphasis seemed to be brought to bear to focus the listeners attention, rather than to showcase his vocal versatility. Face didn't melt; but jaw certainly dropped. Best to you and yours during this blessed season. Looking forward to your reactions in the new year.
