"You whip out a uke and everyone smiles. Well, for a while anyway." That made me laugh so much. It really is a welcoming instrument. Every ukulele player I've met encouraged me to pick one up and try to play along with them no matter how much I insisted I have no musical ability. Now I've been playing for eight months and it's so much fun. And that can be traced back to the Ukulele Orchestra making it popular.
They make those tiny instruments sing. Each instrument adds to the others in the group and to the piece being played and is quite distinctive in its own right in the performance. If you listen closely, you can separate each instrument while being played in a musical piece where the whole group is playing.

A nuanced and unique instrument. Definitely not a toy, but fun to play.

Rest in peace Kitty Lux. Tough act to follow - but I hope UOGB find someone to restore balance to the force that they are.
