I use Odoo but i find the main issue is the partners that do the installation. Problems like hard coding the system or not understanding Accounting when creating the code has and can cause issues. The other Apps are great but each app needs time to set-up and configure the way you needed and how you link into you process flow making sure that ALL the information from CRM - Quotes - Operations gets taken along with you...
Your concerns about Odoo implementation are valid, and they reflect the challenges many businesses face when working with partners who lack proper expertise in customizing and configuring Odoo to meet specific business needs. Here's a breakdown of the key issues you raised and how to address them effectively: 1. Hardcoding the System Problem: Hardcoding introduces rigidity, making the system difficult to upgrade or adapt as your business evolves. Solution: Work with partners who prioritize using Odoo Studio, custom modules, or Odoo's in-built tools over hardcoding. Always request documentation for any customization made. This helps future developers understand the changes without starting from scratch. Enforce modular development practices: Customizations should be done in separate modules to keep the core system untouched. 2. Lack of Accounting Knowledge Problem: A lack of understanding of accounting principles leads to errors in financial reporting and compliance issues. Solution: Choose partners who have dedicated accountants or financial experts on their team or who collaborate with accounting professionals during the implementation process. Ask for references or examples of prior accounting module implementations. Conduct a detailed discovery session to align the system's financial flows with your country’s accounting standards and your internal processes. 3. Time-Consuming Setup and Configuration Problem: Odoo apps require time and effort to configure, especially when integrating them into a seamless process flow. Solution: Implement phased rollouts: Start with the core modules (e.g., CRM, Sales, Accounting) and integrate additional apps gradually. Create process flow diagrams to map how information moves across modules (e.g., CRM → Quotes → Sales → Inventory → Accounting). Use standard templates for setup where possible, which can be customized later. Leverage automation tools within Odoo to reduce manual configuration effort. 4. Ensuring End-to-End Information Flow Problem: Data loss or lack of integration between modules disrupts the process flow. Solution: Prioritize data mapping during implementation to ensure data flows seamlessly across modules. Use Odoo’s built-in connectors or APIs to link apps effectively. Regularly test workflows to ensure that critical information (e.g., CRM data, quotes, invoices) transitions smoothly between modules. How to Choose the Right Implementation Partner: Check Experience: Work with Odoo partners who have proven expertise in your industry. Ask for a Demo: Before signing a contract, request a demo of a similar implementation they’ve done. Discuss Upgrade Policy: Ensure they follow Odoo's upgrade-friendly practices (no core changes). Post-Implementation Support: Make sure they offer training, documentation, and ongoing support. Certifications: Look for official Odoo partners or companies with certified developers. Proactive Steps You Can Take: Invest in Training: Train your internal team to handle basic configurations and workflows. This reduces dependency on external partners. Collaborate Closely: Be actively involved during implementation to ensure the partner understands your unique requirements. Utilize the Odoo Community: Engage with the Odoo forums and community to seek advice, best practices, and recommendations. Odoo is a powerful tool, but its success depends heavily on a thoughtful and experienced implementation approach. Great review of what Odoo can provide ! It only misses to cover the Odoo Community Association ecosystem which provides some industry verticalization and enhence the odoo community version. Providing a true alternative to Odoo Enterprise. That said you'll need to go by a partner that is involved to OCA ecosystem.
The Odoo PM system is poorly thought out. One PM allowed per piece of equipment on one frequency. It also generates the next PM immediately after completing the previous one (even annual PMs) and then this clutters up your task list you have to then manage and will loose track of annual PMs since you looked at white noise tasks for a year before you had to do them. Wish they wouldnt generate until within 30 days of the task or something. Now I have to create more task statuses for semi-annual and annual tasks and filter the list of them by due this month all the time. Also if I have multiple PMs that are electrical and mechanical in nature this is a mess too. Why tie the task frequency to the equipment, why not tie it to the task(s)? So sad this almost worked.
All… make sure your team has proper requirements and workflows in place before implementation as my current firm made things up on the go which is why the bastardized and customized version is so far off from out of the box.
I developed a solutions using Google Workspace. All functionalities are aligned with our processes. Worked better for me in comparison but i would explore Odoo looks neat

@@fabienpinckaers1177 I would disagree. It is more "customizable" perhaps. But who has time for this and when you upgrade from 15-16 to 17 you'll loose much of the customization and have to redo it all in Odoo.
Depends on the needs of the organization. One size does not fit all. Are their processes complex or simple. Etc. Odoo has a great price point compared to NetSuite, Acumetica, & Dynamics. Yet, Odoo takes much more technical knowledge for more complex solutions.

I'm looking for local only invoicing and inventory software, no subscription, no cloud. This has been proving to be more challenging lately.
You can have odoo community version on local system.
Quickbooks Enterprise is local, has invoicing and inventory functions and one time purchase option.
You don't need a subscription and you can run it locally on your computer, you don't have to run it in the cloud
@@__Brandon__ when we run it locally on our system. We get the complete suite of apps or that's again limited to one free app?
