I use Odoo but i find the main issue is the partners that do the installation. Problems like hard coding the system or not understanding Accounting when creating the code has and can cause issues. The other Apps are great but each app needs time to set-up and configure the way you needed and how you link into you process flow making sure that ALL the information from CRM - Quotes - Operations gets taken along with you...

One thing to add - With the self hosted version, along side the custom apps mentioned, there are also backend themes. Some of these adjust the user interface and make it much, much more intuitive.

The implementation process is terrible, and Odoo being newer and less used in the US means their support and staff really do not know much about the system. You are paying them to learn with you, and there is no way to talk to the people that might know the system. It seems all of their developers are overseas, so timing is a real issue. We were told our implementation would be complete by the end of January, and we are in July now and still none of out inventory stays in sync on any of out platforms.(Amazon, eBay and WooCommerce). No one at Odoo can figure out why. One of the support techs told me they do not know much about setting up eBay and showed me what they found about it when the googled the issue. Not very comforting. We have been overselling on our platforms, and that is a very bad thing as am Amazon and eBay seller. We can't get them to prioritize us and get the issues resolved. We were told by our sales consultant and his manager that we would be getting a refund of 100% of the implementation costs, and we have this in email from them. We have still not received this and it is 3 months later. They will no longer even respond to questions about the refund. We are locked into a 3 year, very expensive contract with no hope at this point that the system will ever work for us. We are at the point where we fell we are just going to need to leave Odoo for a new system and it will be a huge loss and almost a year of lost time and resources. They absolutely do not care about their customers.

Rating from video: 9.2 out of 10. I would not agree. I give it a 7. Pros from video: • Highly customizable - yes but with a lot of caveats. Most of the modules in their store or on OCA are not well maintained. Upgrading is also much more difficult with custom modules and code, which you will certainly need. The open source architecture is a proprietary framework, so developers have to specialize instead of learning a framework that is useable in other scenarios. This adds up to a lack of developers because they are unwilling to invest that sort of time into something that walls them in. Most developers are going to be from outside the US, primarily India or South America. Cons: • Unintuitive interface - yes. That's an understatement. • You need a CLEAR implementation plan - Oh man is this ever true. This is because changing anything can have devastating impacts on other areas of the software, like if you edit a product's attributes it deletes all the variants. If you have customizations, through Studio for example, on those variants they get lost. Conversely, there are a LOT of restrictions on what you can delete because there are so many cascading data points. More than likely, you will have to iterate through multiple plans because the learning curve is so high and the documentation is not clear nor comprehensive. • Charging for each user can add up quickly. If all you need someone to do is press a button when something is received or done, you pay for a whole user. For example, we have 30 builders on site. All they need is to have buildings assigned to them and to click a button when they finish one. 30 users * 37.4 = $1122/month. Then you have sh resources to pay for as well. Self hosted will not get you all the Enterprise modules unless you pay for the subscription. Also, they will try to rope you into a 3-5 year contract. The 20% discount is based on a 3-year minimum contract. They don't tell you that up front, not until you are invested into the system by paying a partner tens of thousands for development. Also, they do not have redundancies set up for backups. It is still your responsibility to make and store your own backups. There is also no failover. You are relying on a 99.9% uptime guarantee, which if you have experience with hosting companies and other SAAS, doesn't really mean much. That's across their entire customer base and ecosystem. It might not happen often, but hardware and software failures do occur. I, personally, don't rely on uptime guarantees because I've been one of the .1% several times before. Odoo as a company is terrible. The reps are often slow to respond, sometimes never. The software seems comprehensive on the surface, but under the covers there is a lot that is not well thought through. You will likely need a lot of customization to fit your business model and to make the system manageable/time efficient. There is a huge learning curve. It's very unintuitive and clunky. They provide an interface to change your subscription and resources on sh, but it only works if you are scaling UP. If you want to cut costs you have to ask a rep to do it for you and give them 30 days notice. They push everything off onto 3rd party "partners" who will charge you top dollar and are likely hiring people off of Upwork for much less than what they are charging you. With all that said, it is still probably the best ERP option out there, but honestly, that's not really saying much. The ERP market is grim. If you are thinking about developing your own ERP, think again. I promise you it is way, way more effort than you think it will be. In this day and age you would think we'd have a plethora of affordable, flexible and intuitive software options for ERPs, but you would be mistaken. If I've learned one thing about software in my 30 years, striving for perfection is costly, and no one is willing to take that on.

To really make Odoo work in an organization, it needs to be customized! We had bad experiences working with different partners in the past who promised to deliver but msierably failed which costing us time, money and resources. Also, Odoo boasts on the no. of 3rd party apps they have. There are good and bad apps there. I just hope Odoo can do more quality check before even allowing them to be uploaded.
