Very good job of explaining the making and testing of cylinder squares. This sort of tutorial is not found elsewhere, is immediately useful, and your presentation makes it stick in my foggy brain. Thanks, Don and Jim!

The small gap between the cylinder and the angle plate admits only the shorter wavelengths of visible light. Hence the "blue" color you describe. I am also a patent attorney, and will be looking forward to your discussion of patents. Good luck with the cold, Don. Best Regards.

Thank you Mr. Bailey. I just ground my first cylinder square a couple weeks ago out of solid 4140 pre-hardened. You showed me how to check it and now I can inventory my angle plates to see which ones are good and which need to be ground and how much.
As too the liquid nitrogen, the same results can be achieved over a week immersed in dry ice and K-1. Thanks again, Earl

Great video. This is similar to how you can calibrate a level by checking and flipping 180 degrees and checking again.

Don, another really great video and explanation. The exaggeration thing really helps, myself, I only use that when I talk about fish, especially the ones that got away. Thankyou for the process of making a cylinder square too. I have a mate that works in a stonemason works here and he said ocassionally they have headstones that for whatever reason are rejected. I asked him to keep an eye out for me as he said they can get them to a machine surface...... I reckon it would be woth the effort as surely it will end up Dead accurate.... sorry mate, Aussie humor

Thanks Don. Very interesting. Patent and marketing videos are something I haven't seen on TH-cam. I'll be watching. CJ

in using the dowel pin for edge finder, forget the paper, run the machine with dowel pin in collet or chuck, then put sharpie on it till it is black, or dykem any color, what the dowel toches the part, the sharpie or dykem will immediately wife off showing a silver surface and your within .0002 (the thickness of sharpie or dykem

    Hi Don,
thanks again for an informative video.
It should be noted that your test for the cylinder square should be checked for being tapered. As a taper would negate the 90* rule stated.
    thanks again.

+Charles Camenzuli Yes, you are correct. We made the assumption that there was no taper as it was one of our products.
