The awesomest part of your comment is the fact that the pun here wasn’t even intended, was it? LoL! You know, the whole “50” deal and how 50 Cent sampled this track for what became a lead single with R&B artist, Joe, doing the vocals. I’ve always had mixed emotions about sampling… particularly when the songs being sampled are classics. Part of me absolutely DESPISES the fact that 95% of the younger generation hear these samples/cover , have no knowledge of the original, and credit the new artist. And even worse, most of them don’t care either way. But the other 5% of that young demographic is what prevents me from being TOTALLY against messing with classics… and it’s because that 5% DOES care about the history and origin of the music. So when they find out about samples used in current songs they like, they’re the ones who go check it out for themselves. So the samples/covers are responsible for introducing new listeners to our music. And that, my friends, is what turns a hit into a classic… then makes a classic timeless! Nothing can become timeless without new listeners. So we’ve gotta take the bitter with the sweet.

Well, you were right about the 5 part harmony. Cause he was in a doowop band before he came to Motown, and literally sang all the parts on his albums (including baritone, which he did with the group).

I love Marvin Gaye's music so much. I love all the sounds in his songs, the instruments and voices coming from the left or right side. The lyrics and his emotional voice. The sentences he secretly says, it takes some time to recognise them. It definitely brings me to another place and hearing it is a bliss.

over 40 years have passed and it still has not lost it's love & attraction. For love is all over this one. 1976 was a good year for this album from a lost talent. Peace 2 ya
So when I was in middle school I didn't understand that all these great classics were sampled in my favorite hip hop songs. Kinda let me down that my favorite artists weren't making 100% original music. As I got older I realized that their ability to blend the old with the new is what can help my generation and future ones continue to appreciate the sound that was first established. Nothing wrong with samples as long as we remember where they all come from.
The song and the album cover art were - and still are - timeless. Nobody had ever done a Black art album cover like this before (1976). Album cover by Ernie Barnes, who had also been a football player.
Top soul classic of all time. Marvin sultry voice in rare form just keeps you spell bound the entire track. Jazzy rhythm & blues with that bad ass trumpet playing right along with Marvin misty voice just getting lost in the love. Entire album just AWESOME !

Kari Lane ok boomer
So when I was in middle school I didn't understand that all these great classics were sampled in my favorite hip hop songs. Kinda let me down that my favorite artists weren't making 100% original music. As I got older I realized that their ability to blend the old with the new is what can help my generation and future ones continue to appreciate the sound that was first established. Nothing wrong with samples as long as we remember where they all come from.
You hit the nail right on the head!! "Remember where they came from"
🖤 I agree.. gotta pay homage to these artist when you sample their music... plz don't forget who laid the blueprint down!
Well said...much respect for that.
These soundcloud rappers today have little connection to the continuum
The song and the album cover art were - and still are - timeless. Nobody had ever done a Black art album cover like this before (1976). Album cover by Ernie Barnes, who had also been a football player.
Both inside and outside of this album are beautiful.
Good Times the actual show used it also!
MARVIN +LEON=SENSUALITY PERIOD!!!
Top soul classic of all time. Marvin sultry voice in rare form just keeps you spell bound the entire track. Jazzy rhythm & blues with that bad ass trumpet playing right along with Marvin misty voice just getting lost in the love. Entire album just AWESOME !
👌✔️🤙
One of the coolest, romantic songs ever and I know some but I fell in love with this song and still love it.

OMG, Just me and mine dancing the night away. This song.....
I love this album. My father played this album for me right before he died.
🫂🙏🏽
Saaaaaang Marvin!!!! One Of My Daily & Nightly Songs!
This song has some of the sickest transitions I've ever heard. Man he was great, pure raw talent. Motown soul
Now this is music for the body, soul and mind. I wish there was music like this during this century but we just have to appreciate Marvin’s genius!
MARVELOUS MARVIN GAYE!!!
Wasn't he?!! Just really...😌
Marvelous (Jay-Z voice at the Rocnation Brunch 2020)
I can remember double digit unemployment, gas lines, and skyrocketing inflation. Having club dances, house parties did a lot to help people keep their minds, and souls. Loving, caring, marvin's songs were so right during those hard times.
This is the music my mother grew up on, my Black King has me now playing it ALL THE TIME🖤👑(My name is Angel too) and I just melt everytime 😛🤫. This is REAL music the millenial gen unfortunately may not know about
His music is great but this one song surpasses all of his other artistic works. my mother played this too and i loved it then and now! straight fire🔥
Sublime jam. A musical masterpiece. Strings, horns, analog synthesizers, etc. Perfect vocals.
And Chuck Rainey's sneaky, subtle touch on bass is impossible to duplicate.
Bass lines are perfect 🙏
Great song! The drummer is smooth as silk...incredible...:-)!
Donna Gordon drummer and horn player towards the end
Absolutely 💯
