- Cinematography Breakdown - Lighting & Camera Techniques for CINEMATIC VIDEO
In this tutorial I break down the lighting of a recent short film and share some practical cinematography tips for shooting and location scouting. If you haven't seen the main film yet, check it out here: • Run, Die, Repeat - CIN... Massive thanks to @NanliteGlobal for sponsoring the video!
🔥 UPDATE ON MY COLOR GRADING COURSE:
My sincere apologies for the wait! It's taking so much longer than originally anticipated but one of the reasons for the delay is because of the recent release of Davinci Resolve 19. With some powerful new tools I want to incorporate & update it into the tutorials. I'm also having surgery on the 14th of May with a 2 week recovery time. That being said, the course will go LIVE at the very latest by the end of June. I'm offering an EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT to everyone who signed-up to the list so if you haven't done already, you can do it at this link. jacquescrafford.shop/gradingc...

This short is so well done! This BTS vid as well! I can't wait to test out the tips you gave us on lighting.
The lighting was so good that I thought it was natural xD
This makes me so happy to hear, thanks for taking the time to comment!
You spoke about the lighting in your workshop as well but another big thing I noticed that made all these scenes so captivating was the composition. There are some beautiful symmetry and great use of leading lines in this film!
Thanks bru, really cool of you to notice that! Was good finally meeting you :)
You too man! Had a blast!

That 2400 Light is intense! By the way, how long did this main shot took from setting up to shot completion? Man I would like to shadow as well so I can learn faster.
Broooo! That's a good question :) From the moment we arrived on set to rolling on the first shot took about 2 hours. We had to carry the light up a bunch of stairs and laying cables also took some time. Once we had the wide dialed in the PavoSlims only took a few minutes and we were set. I saw you sent me an IG message, I'll do my best to reply later this week, it's been so chaotic and I'm overwhelmed with DM's and comments haha!
@@jacques_crafford that's actually pretty good from arriving on set and the first shot for 2hrs. Well done for sure, can't wait to see the fighting scene haha. No worries I know you're pretty busy and all tbh DMs and comments it's hard to see everything so I'm glad you took notice of me 🙌🙏 but definitely would like to help and shadow you on your projects.
Niceee
Thank you my friend!
That do Really Longtime bro
Thanks bro!
the next christopher nolan
You are most kind, thank you! If that is my goal I think it will take many many many more years hahaha
Yizo gents.
Yeeew thanks bra!
2400B?? 🤯🤯💡
so this how to is basically how to use expensive lights that u really have to have money to rent cuz no one is buying them. well if u have the money nothing is ouot of reach
I bought the light as an investment to rent out to my network, it's a tax write-off. For the first 4 years of my filmmaking career I rented gear because I couldn't afford it. 15 years later I can afford to buy some gear but not because I don't need to rent anymore, because I'm making an extra income from renting it out.
I don't even know what to say anymore . .
I'm with you my friend
What is "Netflix style"? It's just picture. I saw it in many movies and tv series. What so "Netflix" about it? Come on.
It's just an ads for Nanlite, netflix is just for the views
Loris you are right. It's an AD for Nanlite, I made no secret of it. Still the video is filled with educational value and I know lots of people will agree that they learned something. If you're looking for Free Educational content with ZERO ADS you're on the wrong platform. Nanlite paid me to create a short film of my own choice, a wonderful opportunity to create something I'm passionate about without any creative interference and I'm proud to partner with them in this way!
I wouldnt advertise it as 'how to light like netflix' as everyone basically agrees most netflix produced content is universally ugly
In some ways you are right but there are some pretty amazing films on Netflix and I've learned so much from watching them. The original title was my effort at trying to get people to watch the video, still one of the hardest things to do on the internet :)
