Today was my first time hearing this song, being my first year of listening to Bruce Springsteen. I couldn't stop with such beautiful and powerful emotions, and I found this video cover, and manage to find the movie (Sunrise, 1927) on TH-cam. I watched the whole thing. I come back to this video now, and...am I just tearfully happy to be alive to feel this.
It s actually a suicide song… but the boss does his own thing and does the song itself justice…. But yeah great song! And the boss got his own bangers as well :)
Daisy daisy daisy daisy daisy daisy daisy... I LOVE Suicide & this track especially (forget that bloody advert!) Ghost Rider is another BANGER, along with Alan Vega doing his own version with a rockabilly twist on the album "Collision drive." Magdalena 83 & 84 are also brilliant. Never thought i would hear Bruce Springsteen cover a Suicide traxk; but this is very good! 👌🏻💚
Yes. It is a cover from the late, great, influential band, Suicide. Bruce really boosted their cred when he did their song. Please take a listen to the original. It's listed here.
@@peterwdowiak2637it's actually better than Suicide's.. I saw Bruce perform this twice in 05. It was a solo tour! No accompaniment! He was playing a squeezebox thing here, maybe with his feet I can't remember. It was in smaller venues!
Thank you captainmcglue for this wonderful mix of Bruce and Sunrise. I keep coming back to see this often, I love it so. When the man cries in the church ,it really brings me to tears.
The footage is from "Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans" {1927}. An outstanding silent era film that still resonates today, at least to me. Springsteen was a big fan of Suicide, surprisingly, the band that penned this tune. Outstanding use of film (highligts) and song!! Love the Boss!!
I first heard this song this year in a movie! The movie was on Max/HBO "Civil War". Found in the credits it was performed by a group called Suicide. Never heard this version. It is totally completely done differently, the movie version was just spooky. I didn't realize it was an old song at all. The leading music the beat reminded me of a totally different song by a another singer. I was getting really confused, what came first as the old adage the chicken or the egg. LOL
When Bruce did this in concert at the ACC here in Toronto years ago I was in the 6th row from the stage. He stared directly at me and never once turned away or looked away from me. It was very uncomfortable but I felt he was trying to tell me something. It was the single most moment I will always forever remember from a concert experience. I read years later that if he feels he is connecting with someone he will give them constant eye contact. I think he was connecting with me that night.
What movie?? Because i believe i saw a Netflix movie that introduced me to this song, too, but I can't think of the where I heard this song from or which movie..
stumbled on this truly remarkable song one lonely night and cannot get it out of my head and empty heart. awakens so many memories, some i thought ive buried and burned......
i literally have tears in my eyes every time i'm listening to this cover! the boss did a great job, can't believe i have never heard this one till a few days ago! cheers for sharing!
Beautiful man, genius edit. I was totally unaware of this. Late but still, RIP Vegas. Moving interpretation from Springsteen. The ability of music to reduce one to tears never fails. The world would be a poorer place without it. Why can't we all learn to be at peace? Our lives would all be so much enriched. With smiles to you all and keep dreaming.
Gosh... What a blessed person Siobahn must be! What you' ve done here was not only unique, but mesmerizing. Couldn't help the tears, but certainly i was not the only one. Greetings from Brazil! And congratulations... SUNRISE is one of the films of my life.
actually suicide is a lot his personal style! have u heard nebraska? that's bruce tryign to emulate suicide hence the shouts and WOOOOOs and minimal style present thru out the album :)
Bruce has that talent to pull this off. Another that comes to mind is the song Trapped. Listen to the original and then listen to Bruce's version. Completly transformed and so damn good. The Boss all the way....
What a haunting melody. It invades your heart & soul until the end & even after that it is still in your mind’s eye. LOVE this song as sung by God aka The Boss💜💜
spectacular, love the classic black and white movie, longing man, gets the girl of his dreams goes so well to Bruce's live track which is filled with emotion, thank you so much for posting, I needed this
wow what a great visual to Springsteen's rendition of this song; you have a great sense of image; very much appreciate the artistry and the effort on your part. I was taken; nicely done, thank you
Humanity. Beauty. Beyond anything I could hope to describe in a you tube comment. This will be played at my funeral. What is the film? Peerfection. In tears. Literally in tears
Fantastic job. Very touching montage and clearly a movie I already want to see just from the raw emotion expressed without words. This has been a favorite song of mine since I first heard him do it live.
The song is of course great. This video is astonishing and caused me to cry. The dark, black and white landscape is harrowingly dreamy and draws one into the nightmarishly loving possibilities. Being in love with someone deeply but also being terribly tormented by one's mind. Wanting to love desperately and wanting to hurt someone as well. Being able to be incredibly fearless when someone you care about is demonic and dangerous. Having ultimate compassion is the greatest, most free love. This video, together with the song, has a very powerful message. Thank you!
Song released as Alan Vega’s 70th birthday limited edition ep on Blast First Petite label. The ep also included Suicide’s version of the same song and Beat The Devil performing Mr Ray. Very rare. Very cool stuff.
I have this whole song played in a movie where a man’s wife is so depressed she is in an institution. He goes every day to bring her back. Can build a whole movie around this song and title it Dream Baby Dream
Beautiful video, and if you can, you should watch the film that this clip is from, the 1927 silent film 'Sunrise' by FW Murnau, maybe the best silent film ever made. You'll be astounded by how good it is, and the whole thing is available on TH-cam!

Bruce has a magical, and welcomed way, to just touch our hearts. And often just with simple, and beautiful music.
Wow really beautiful story and amazing song beautiful voice 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Man it's crazy the amount of legendary artist that Suicide had inspired.
Suicide were great.
The most beautifull song ever!
The last classic film from the silent era. Can't help feeling we lost a great art form when sound films began.
lol yeah too bad we can hear the actor speak now huh
surprising how Springsteen may cover a song by a band like Suicide more or less the opposite of his personal style, with such a power. real class.
actually suicide is a lot his personal style! have u heard nebraska? that's bruce tryign to emulate suicide hence the shouts and WOOOOOs and minimal style present thru out the album :)

He does a pretty fair job with Tom Waits, "Jersey Girl," too.
Who hasn't Suicide inspired really?
Trop beau, Bruce. Salutations depuis la France.
What a haunting melody. It invades your heart & soul until the end & even after that it is still in your mind’s eye.
LOVE this song as sung by God aka The Boss💜💜
