Alan Vega attended Springsteen's 20 Jul 2005 show in Bridgeport, CT. "I'm still high from that show. Now I can die. Not only he's playing 'Dream Baby Dream,' but it's the big encore song, the last song of the show," Alan Vega told Backstreets magazine in an interview. "A lot of bands have done my stuff, Suicide stuff [...] Thank god, finally somebody did their version of it. He interpreted my song, he did it his way, and such a great way that I'm going to have to sing it that way...
My wife and I saw this concert.....and this performance of Dream baby Dream was so moving that she cried like I've never seen her cry before. Being a wonderful artist herself, I asked her why she's crying, and she said because he's completely naked on stage.....I see his heart, I see his soul..... He's exposing every molecule of emotion in his body............That reaction and comment were the most real, beautiful and touching moment I ever had the pleasure of witnessing ....and something I will never forget for as long as I breathe........That is the essence and the Talent of this incredible Artist.......Thank You Mr. Springsteen, for all that you are and all that you give.

It's not often you see the audience so captivated by Bruce while singing. This says allot. The Boss all the way.
I saw Suicide perform this in 1978 in a truly jaw dropping performance. Springsteen really does the song justice, but no surprise there, he was an early advocate of Suicide and all the CBGB bands of 76/77 and regularly went the their gigs. A thing of consummate beauty.
It's wonderful to hear Bruce's interpretation of Suicide's classic. Both versions take the listener on a transcendental journey. What beauty!
I'd never heard his version of this song until now -- this is the first time. He sure did a great interpretation of the song.
Alan Vega said about Bruce's cover of Dream Baby Dream "Bruce did the song in such a great way that I'll have to sing it that way or not sing it at all anymore.... On my deathbed, that's the last thing I'm going to listen to. I'm going to play it at my funeral" Coming from Vega, co writer and not a fan of covers of this song (they all sounded the same as Suicide's original) high praise indeed.
I think I admire Bruce a lot more that he took this song from the band Suicide and made it famous. He was facinated with their music after meeting them randomly at a recording studio. His song State Trooper is inspired by Suicide's music style.
Saw him perform this in Atlanta on the D&D tour. First time seeing the Boss live.
I had shivers. Sat on the edge of my seat for the entire song.
Damn near burst into tears spontaneously.

Love that moment at 6:57. You think it's one of those small theatre shows he sometimes does because the audience is so silent. Then you pull back, and it's a STADIUM, rapt in attention. Incredible performer.

He really challenged audiences on that tour. I saw the second Royal Albert Hall show in 2005. I think the first or second song was "Reason To Believe" done through a 1920s mic. It took two verses to recognise the it. Very David Lynch. Then he finisheed with THIS!

I meant thumbs up! I saw him perform this on the D&D tour, and as powerful as it is here, live it WAS magical. We were all under a spell. Emotion and sound filled the theater in a way that I've never heard at one of his concerts--and I've seen quite a few--when thousands are singing our hearts out. The haunting organ and his voice alone seemed to be singing to each one of us alone. What a powerfully intimate experience. I actually called my office to record it and listened to it over and over.

Read the lyrics to Born in the USA, and you wont feel like you have to say sorry. I used to dislike that song too. Thought it was probably xenophobic. I read the lyrics and became a fan. If you start reading Bruce's own lyrics and then watch his performance of them, it's impossible not to be a fan, cause you realize very quickly, that he's always singing about you. Cheers :)

Beautifully handled. Vega's solo first three solo albums go great with Springsteen from that era. Of course there was a lot of acknowledged interplay between them. Also love The Boss's unreal cameo on the studio version of Reed's STREET HASSLE.

I seen The Boss in Seattle on his solo Devils & Dust tour. He brought an emotional response from the crowd and made me a fan of "Dream Baby Dream." I don't mind saying he brought tears to my eyes when he sang this song. So few lyrics and a pump organ....who knew?

Obviously Bruce saw the brilliance in the song....Electronic pioneers that were more punk with an organ and a drum machine than most with guitars and drums. Suicide were like an assault on the senses. That was the point. They inspire-even to this extent. But i guess you missed that. atleast bruce can see it.
I'll never figure out why some fans feel the need to put down other artists instead of just praising their own chosen heroes...

Dude wrote a song for the Ramones (Hungry Heart) AND cameo'd on Lou Reed's album (Street Hassle), so I think he's got 'Punk Cred.' but whatever; he clearly loves (punk) Rock AND Music in general.
