Compared to some clubs I trained at, that was relatively mild. My first club was terrible. Some brown and black belts wouldn't even try to help you at all, just repeatedly throw you. Some would even refuse to do randori with you. I remember when I just started we were doing warmups and running around the dojo. One blackbelt said if I catch you I'm going to shove you. I thought he was joking until he shoved me from behind and sent me flying off the mat into some chairs. To be honest I was kind of annoyed at the time. After a while I changed to a different club which was much better. Unfortunately it was small and eventually closed down.
I see your point. But as a Judo noob i actually appreciate every single tip i can get from higher belts. Had a black belt talking to me for more than half of the randori, instead of going at it. It was a lot of input, but i actually felt like i learned a few things i can integrate into my Judo, just from him explaining a few more advanced concepts.
You should do the white belt who skips basic classes, always refuses to spar with higher belts due to "injuries" but is the loudest one coaching others from the sideline during free rolls.
This is a HUGE problem in many martial arts schools. That said, it’s the teacher’s responsibility to set the right tone and make sure certain students don’t do this.
Excellent! After many years in the martial arts I see what you demonstrated many times, too many. Whether it was with good or bad intentions was always running through the back of your mind.
Neji Hyuuga i mean it’s supposed to be like that so you can get better. Bruh i used to compete. Tryhard, training 4 hours every day, running miles and working out. When i started i didnt even know how to run from the guy who was tryna fucking destroy me. I remember my first day like it was yesterday. We went to randori.. i didnt know shit and boom my head god stomped in the tatami just like that.. and it was like that for weeks.. until I made myself be better so i would overcome him. Of course people don’t have the same goals.. your goal may not be to compete and intensely stress your body and mind by training that hard. But what im trying to say is that one must face challenges to see progress and i really believe that being on and unfair situation like that may actually benefit you a lot. And bro deadass the satisfaction of bringing down someone that at first seemed impossible to defeat... oh boy that is priceless
@@truekingvictory Well actually, if you do randori very hard just like in the tournament, the chances you get a broken bone is high. Go try your best and do your full potential at 100% when you do randori including in newaza and dont bother with the tap just go at 100%. good luck bro...
Neji Hyuuga got a dislocated shoulder as a white belt years ago upon hard landing when I was 16. As a 30 year old I’m going back to judo this September.
This was the issue I had. When I started the club was mostly black belts and were all blue collar workers and far stronger then me. No matter what I did I couldn't get near them and they just slammed me into the floor. It was so demoralising
Sensei, I have a problem. Due to the coronavirus outbreak in my country judo practice and matches are cancelled until the end of the month? How can I improve my judo at home? I currently do bodyweight training at home such as pullups with a towel to strength my grip and pushups and squats. Do you have any more suggestions for me? Edit: Thanks for the suggestions I will try all of those. Stay safe everyone!
Probably the most important thing is to stay active like you are doing. Keep doing bodyweight exercises. Maybe get some dumbells or something as well. Go through the motions of different throws.
Wait, I'm confused. At first The blackbelt seemed genuinely helpful. Was it because he went from not trying at all to trying too hard? Where I train it isn't considered narcisistic to provide feedback. Shihan often quotes Dr. Moses Powell, "Each One Teach One."
I have a disease. Although I am a false beginner and pretty bad, it seems I cannot control my mouth. I always have to say something stupid to others at the dojo, while regretting it the next day. If a pill existed to make me go mute, I would think about taking it. I would have to stop my job as a teacher though. Tough call.
Falo um pouco português i'm in cuiaba mato grosso for the moment , visiting my gf . Was hoping to train bjj for 3 months in brazil . But looks like no gym is open cause of the corona outbreak 😣
its annoying on both ends where they go 100% and you cant get anything and they go really easy to where anything would 'work' even if it wasn't as good as you could do
This is the very first I've ever heard of talk during randori. The very worst I've ever heard. Was the peanut gallery from the side lines. Which is normally during tournaments. There is no way they would have ever spoke in my school. Is because each was trying to win the randori. And who could go to the end of the night with the most wins. Lol
I started judo last week and all I have been doing so far is getting thrown and popping my knee =)))) I am doing randori with some blue belts that keep stiff arming me and twisting tripping...not letting me do anything on them... Let's say at this point it's easier to learn through uchikomi than randori...
I'm starting with judo and I fell in love with it. I have six years training capoeira and I know some basics of Muay Thai and BJJ. Last friday I did randori with a guy who has never practiced martial arts, the lad went really crazy, and try to struggle with me, I kept calm and neutralizing his movements, I did him a tomoe nage and the ground battle started, he kept his senseless movements and during the struggle he scratched my neck and hit me with his knee. After a bit of struggle I choked for two seconds but he managed to escape, later, I did him a Kesa-gatame and he could not escape. He was suffocated and my breathing was only a bit fast. 😅
I don't even know wtf Randori is, nor do I really care, I know how to fight. Guess what, got there with hard knucks, fast feet and blocking, I love blocking, why do so many call it impossible? Lazy fucks, that's why, takes work, practice and skill.

I hate it when this kind of thing happens in BJJ too. Or just in general when people go 500% when drilling!
They just dont want to lose.

An excellent tutorial. I’m now an avid fan. Thanks again for your show and commentary 👍
thank you sensei! simple and true
Very good advice!!!
Never go all out in Randori (club). My friend had his upper body dislocated when his opponent fall onto his body.

Buy Neil Adams Uchikomi bands and his video... Or use inner tube from bicycle...
Ibraahiem Dijks i suggest you to do shadow judo like shadow boxing but do judo do techniques you need to improve

Put a pair of shoes on the ground like a judo stance. Then drill footwork entry to a hip throw.

Same here if a junior belt whiffs a throw, I'll them why it whiffed.
Who talks during randori?! I have never done such a thing! 👊😂 guilty as charged.
