    Truly incredible pianism here. Katsaris' years of dedication to Liszt's transcriptions of the Beethoven symphonies has issued in several recordings for the ages. Thanks for uploading.

    This is my favorite of Beethoven's symphonies and also the one I think translates to piano. The fifth movement is really amazing. I like it even more than the actual symphony version.

    This some of the most astonishing piano playing and music I've ever heard: I believe Liszt has improved on the original Beethoven Symphonies (yes, applies to all), despite this not being Liszt's intentions, and I've been listening to the original for over 30 years - due to the superhuman virtuosity, and impeccable musicality of Katsaris, I cannot imagine Liszt playing it much better, but unfortunately we'll never know. Anyway, I'm just speechless...ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

      C'mon dude if you seriously think the Liszt piano transcriptions are superior to Beethoven's orchestral scores you haven't listened to the symphonies enough. And Liszt would be the first to agree with me. Beethoven wrote piano sonatas and other solo piano literature. He knew what to write for a piano and what to write for an orchestra. I admire the transcriptions as achievements in music arrangement, but the limitations are obvious in the constant use of pedal to mimic the larger orchestral sound and the lack of distinct color in dense passages that originally featured a contrast of timbres. Look, I get that they sound monumental on piano, but it's insulting to say that they are improvements.

      Derek Suszko I agree... Liszt was a genius and the pianist is spectacular, but I'm sure he was imagining the orchestra sound whilst playing. If there is ONE (and only one) composer whose symphonies couldn't be perfected, that is Beethoven, he reached perfection.

    This is my favourite Beethoven symphony, and... his pastoral piano sonata is my favourite Beethoven piano composition. So Katsaris has done the world a huge favour by recording all these Liszts Beethoven symphonies for piano !

    Don't forget ... the composer birthed most of these ideas on his keyboard in his musical laboratory. So to hear them in their "maternity ward" so to speak is a refreshing testament to the spark of new beginnings, and helps catalyze hopeful feelings for the future (even 'small scale' futures, such as the time it takes to listen to this piece).

    What is more badass than a Beethoven Symphony? How about a piano solo of a Beethoven Symphony?

      @BorisCr have you seen this video of him. Believe it, only 10 fingers and they are long just like Beethovens. I think in this video Katsaris looks most like Beethoven than any other performer. This might be as close as we'll ever get to seeing what Beethoven looked like when playing.

    These solo piano transcriptions by Liszt are to Beethoven's symphonies what Baudelaire's translations are to Edgar Allan Poe !

    So sanglich vokal und orchestral farbenreich kann symphonische Klaviermusik klingen, wenn sie auf einem Instrument der Liszt‘schen Hausmarke gespielt und nicht auf einem SS -Flügel „exerziert“ wird,…
    Welch hör-und fühlbarer Unterschied,…😌
    So wird die Pastorale zum klanglichen Balsam für die Seele,… Danke an Interpret und C.B. 🤗👍✨

    24:20 is where the Cuckoo begins in case anyone was listening to this just to hear what its like transcribed for piano, it sounds a lot less ridiculous on piano than live at a symphony. Enjoy, the thunderstorm is lovely.

    how could it be possible..?? it must be need 3 hands.. It's beautiful to listen but I don't get it.

      @godsolovedtheworld6124 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      At 15:30: -- No, 2 hands !! The right hand is playing a trill (2 fingers) - sometimes there is just one more note to add in the right. Meanwhile the left is playing the melody and staccato accompaniment. Just gives the illusion of 3 hands, but really it is a solo piece with one player. Saying that there is a duet version for four hands but that is arranged by Czerny.
