I had a pair of Honda sT-300s, what they call a PanAmerican in the EU and loved the bikes for their ability to chew up miles. Can’t say I ever rode the Triumph Sport Rourer but it’s a gorgeous bike.
@Mechkiller1982 dont worry, along with the 2010 sprint GT, there is still an updated version of the ST with some cosmetic changes and still has the under seat exhaust
I sold my K1300GT a couple of weeks back after five years of ownership, only because I really had no choice. Those knocking it have likely not ridden it or can't afford it. It is awesome and having ridden all the bikes in this test, I know why they chose the GT. Being envious of those who can afford the price tag does not make for a good review. ;-) Imperfect? Well yes. Tell me about your perfect bike? The GT had several issues that were fixed for most before they ever became a problem for the owner. At four years old, still never an issue or breakdown for me, BMW replaced major suspension components FOC at servicing only last year. Oh, and the clutch was crap, like an on-off switch. Been riding all my life, ten years despatch riding and I have ridden nothing that I would trade in the GT for. And the new owner is over the moon, but then he would be having just stepped off a K1100.
Hey mate, when you finally really test these bikes with real data we'll be waiting. I will remark though, the Triumph will hold together over the years. I love my older triple.
Funny how the BMW came out on top if money was no object. I like how they named the Suzuki the GSX1250FA ST. Picked mine up this week and it has some serious torque.
No, it is more a sport bike. Up close, the things reak of quality. The engine is legend the trans smooth and positive. Tear down tests between BMW and Triumph showed less wear. Thing is the Triumph wants to get up and go...they can all day long. The engine is a phenomenon. The slightly older models a bit lighter and shorter coupled.
Wtf? 'Triumph Sprint GT Group Test'... 'The most expensive bike was best!' ' The cheapest bike was cheapest!' 'Oh, er, yeah, and we, ah, also rode a Triumph...' Talk about click bait. What a poor excuse for a review.
@masterknaster The VFR is based on Hondas concept design from last year - remember that awesome looking thing with enclosed wheels, no axles and a 'V4' engine? I reckon it looks pretty good, but would still go the 'Zook.
ElitePower: Well said- I would have liked to see the Kawasaki in this mix as well-- especially considering Motorcyclenews preferred it to the BMW in their 2010 comparison.
The Triumph has the simpler and cheaper engine to maintain an doesn't feel as busy as a four. Just checked the valve clearances at 100,000km and they haven't changed since 45,000km. BMW servicing is eye wateringly expensive.
There's something about that triple in the GT, a really great motor the way they have it tuned in the GT. From 40mph to 100mph it'll walk away from a Connie. But look out for the Connie after 100mph!
I love all of your videos. They are consistently informative, entertaining and just an all around joy to watch. My thought after watching this one, is, how can you not include the Concours (I think it might be the 'GTR' over there) 14 in this test? If it's just because you couldn't get your hands on one I understand but I think it would fit in perfectly between the BMW and the Suzuki. Regardless, you can't have a real sports-tourer test without it. Just my thoughts. Love the vids.
@masterknaster The lights one on the one all the way to the right looks like an 08-09 gsxr 600/750 and the second from the right light looks like 06/07 gsxr 600/750
I've ridden the Concours and the Triumph GT and the GT is no slouch at all. Believe it or not, the Connie has very little performance advantage over the GT. Almost identical quarter mile times and the GT has better roll on response than the Connie. The Connie is way more comfortable though and has a lot more gadgetry. If you can live without the creature comforts, the GT is a great buy, about $4k less U.S.
@jeenyus720 The one in the middle is as I said a GSX and Suzuki put GSX-R headlights on it to make it look sportier. But I really don't see the similarities between the Triumph's lights and any GSX-R.
Gayed up the sprint and the viffer with the low side exhausts. Underseats are much nicer. You never know, in 5 years time, the underseat exhaust might be a "new" innovation again.
So you spent two days and all you managed to show us was half a video of panniers, a bit of iffy looking road footage and absolutely naff all review about the triumph. I am so glad that there are independent TH-cam channels from members of the public who do the job you're paid to do ten times better.
Awfull review. I have the GT. Great bike. It is a sports tourer And handles dam well. Of cause BMW is more comfy And also has some power. But you cant push it around like the sprint. Its not a sports tourer is it. Confusing review. Besides hardly mentioning the Bike. He seems kinda biesed for some reason. He proberly owns a Beema. Personel choice i guess. Couldnt be bothered, Its a day out.
Can anyone assist me here. I'm fairly new to riding about two and a half years. In this time I've done 40k on a 2012 suzuki vstrom 650. And in about 4 months will finish paying for it :-) So I'm looking for a new bike. I know suzuki's in general are considered a bit budget but my v strom has been good to me besides a replacement clutch and too short service intervals at 3.5k. Anyway now I'm thinking of a new v strom 1000 dessert, a 1250fa. Or a the triumph gt . A mechanic told me about the yamaha fjr but I'm not that excited by it. I plan on riding two up around Europe at some point and want another work horse too. I like the idea of the 1250fa because if it's a year or two old I could possibly get two bikes for almost the price of the new vstrom like a 2006 r1 as well. Or does the triumph offer a bit of everything? To be honest I'd prefer to spend less but am open to any other ideas. I just know I couldn't get a superbike alone because of the motorway mileage I do! But want something more powerful than the 650 vstrom I've got now Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks
Hate the Beemer, triumph is to wet and wallowed. I have the vfr1200 and for me personally I think it's the best of the bunch. Loads of power, very comfortable but the panniers could be bigger for the price. As for fuel tank. I get 200 miles before I have to start thinking bout petrol. Good enough for most. Hell yea for the v4
Agree. But, 200 miles before you start thinking about petrol? About 200 Km to the fuel light and refueling every 230-250 Km is realistic. Over 300 Km is simply not realistic...by far.
200 miles before thinking about fuel?! 130 and you’re being truthful. 150 and you’re being economical with the truth. 200 and you are being totally dishonest...
How come none of you guys are barking now about these British guys supporting Triumph?? The argument seems to surface only when Triumph IS the winner. I love the review and I think it was spot on!
Triumph have lost their way with this one, they think they have made cheap tourer compared to BMW but everyone else can see it’s just a dear budget tourer.
I have to laugh. NOW the measure of a bag, "Good enough" is that the big helmet fits. I have a 2006. Won't hold a full face but a Harley half...Except. I just leave that on the seat.Nobody screws with it where I live..in the city I'd use a cable or bring with.. If I need a jacket or other shoes, rain gear, a six and a sandwich or a place to leave my riding suit...they'd be no room for a full face helmet....even if it could fit.
That Triumph is spectacular!!
Triumph, pure class with kudos. Fly the flag and be proud.
I went from a Suzuki 650 Gsx-F to a BMW r1200rt...
I've never looked back 🙏🙌
I had a pair of Honda sT-300s, what they call a PanAmerican in the EU and loved the bikes for their ability to chew up miles. Can’t say I ever rode the Triumph Sport Rourer but it’s a gorgeous bike.
Missing the best of all, the FJR 1300
@Mechkiller1982 dont worry, along with the 2010 sprint GT, there is still an updated version of the ST with some cosmetic changes and still has the under seat exhaust
Oh the old helmet test. Totally relevant way to assess a well engineered bit of transportation machinery
I sold my K1300GT a couple of weeks back after five years of ownership, only because I really had no choice. Those knocking it have likely not ridden it or can't afford it. It is awesome and having ridden all the bikes in this test, I know why they chose the GT.

Great comment. Thank you. I'm looking at buying a 2009 GT

If I were putting my money on one of the 4, it would be the TRIUMPH.
The Triumph has the simpler and cheaper engine to maintain an doesn't feel as busy as a four. Just checked the valve clearances at 100,000km and they haven't changed since 45,000km.
BMW servicing is eye wateringly expensive.
@jeenyus720 oh, you meant the VFR...
It does lookj a bit like a gsx-r but i believe its based on the new Fireblade's design.
There's something about that triple in the GT, a really great motor the way they have it tuned in the GT. From 40mph to 100mph it'll walk away from a Connie. But look out for the Connie after 100mph!
no so. Im a shorty rider at 5ft7 and my hands are not particularly large. I find them comfortable on setting 4. Bike handles like a dream.
What value the Sprint GT is now. 6 years on and it is £500 cheaper and comes with a top box. I got a free sat nav too!

@baiazid They where trying to show how much room was in the panniers. if the helmet fits then you know how big it actually is on the inside.
@masterknaster The lights one on the one all the way to the right looks like an 08-09 gsxr 600/750 and the second from the right light looks like 06/07 gsxr 600/750

@jeenyus720 which one?
The one with the GSX lights IS a GSX. The Triumph's lights don't look anything like the GSX's lights.
So you spent two days and all you managed to show us was half a video of panniers, a bit of iffy looking road footage and absolutely naff all review about the triumph.
I am so glad that there are independent TH-cam channels from members of the public who do the job you're paid to do ten times better.
@rodeliinc it's actually the Sprint GT.. not ST
@javimitch2002 agreed
What about the Concours.....?
@nitroxlodd Oh good. Thanks for the reply. It is just my preference, and I realise that others like the current trend. Each to their own.
Awfull review. I have the GT. Great bike. It is a sports tourer And handles dam well. Of cause BMW is more comfy And also has some power. But you cant push it around like the sprint. With me a GT 1050 triumph bike I need to speedo meter & such & seet & 2 leavers & 2 sid antictor
Would have been more entertaining if they'd tried to get there heads in the panniers. Lol

Ricky Lee years later and the vfr still looks good compared to the rest on the video.

Thumps up love MCN Reviews, but... waste half of the test if Helmet fits into bag and Sound is a mess.
Those front lights look like the gixxers
And now you can pick that Triumph up for £4000 with 30k on it. The bandit for £3000 with 25k. VFR with 35k for £4000 and the BMW...….
2:00 who's the thickest, the pannier designer or the weirdo who has to spend 5 full minutes working it out
I like the St much better.
HONDA rules!!!:))
i never choice a bike in fonction of lugage and but my helmet in ....

4 minutes of helmet testing and looking at an overweight guy in a lycra top bursting at the seams.....
Heloo hi I can u help me brother
@DuranXL LOOOL
Wow those bags on the Honda are shit. Hope Givi makes a set for it.....
thay for got kawasaki concours 14
Is it budget or booodget I wonder...
Don't forget the suzuki is also bonkers
Only buy a suzuki if you want the Lidle biking experience. Morrisons Triumph, Sainsbury Honda followed by Waitrose BMW. 😁
BMW'S are over rated. You go to a dealer look in the shop they're full of bikes needing repairs.
Crap sound, crap content, crap camera work.
hahahah Bonkers!!!
The Sprint GT is a great bike, and it can do this: watch?v=kcALeD0iXW4
greath Suzuki, i love this bikes.
Always Suzuki it's equilibrate in to many aspects, but never it's brilliant in anyone.
Cya!
