Eeeks. Warning to viewers. Lots of bad advice. Protein (with fat) doesn't cause Insulin resistance or diabetes. Glucose/insulin from carbs does. Obesity and diabetes are the number one cause of renal failure, CVD, and death, yet she recommends a diet that promotes those, such as the answer to the rice, quinoa, cous cous question. None of those are good choices for anyone that is above their ideal weight, diabetic, or anyone with insulin resistance. Plant protein is poor quality protein which requires more carbs to get adequate protein. Protein isn't the worst pro-oxidant. Rancid oxidized processed vegetable oils (canola, soybean, corn, etc.) and highly processed foods are much worse. Seems she's an anti-meat ideologue more concerned about pushing an agenda than helping people get well. Lastly, going to a dietician that teaches unhealthy choices is no benefit.

Hey Steve, thanks for your thoughts. We follow evidenced-based guidelines when it comes to a renal diet that protects kidney disease. A low protein diet has been studied and thoroughly proven to slow down the advancement of kidney disease. The idea of plant proteins being "poor quality" is likely the reference of the PDCAAS, but that is also becoming less of a concern. We do promote mostly whole foods for a healthy renal diet, but also factoring in "real life" and the modern world that we have to support people in all situations and stages of CKD. Many diets that promote no processed foods are coming from a place of entitlement or lack of knowledge on what processing means. We hope you find a dietitian you can connect with and feel good about working together for a healthy kidney journey. 💚
