    I'm a kidney patient, stage 3, and I have trouble working-in the Water. My doctor stays on me about 'not enough water intake' but I water-down every single thing I drink, I'm not kidding, sodas, tea, coffee, and I eat the greens, salad, I love the coleslaw, lots of cabbage, but still can't get the numbers correct. I don't want to give up, I'll keep fighting. Thanks for this video, lots of good info.

      Fruits are mostly made of water and fiber. Eating more fresh fruit will lead to greater hydration.

      I stopped sodas. And nearly no coffee/tea
      Maximum I take ½cup tea once in 2days.
      4 litres of water is good. Take a water bottle and fill it 4 times.

    A lot of talk about veggies and meat substitutes but you never mentioned a protein target.

    I stopped eating many of my favorite foods, such as raspberries, spinach, and kale, because of high oxalate content. Avoiding kidney stones reduces food choices.

      I hear this from almost every patient I work with. If you aren't working with a renal dietitian, I'd highly recommend it. It's a great way to get really honed in on exactly what your body needs and what foods can piece together to meet those needs. I'm sorry you've cut out your favorites! I understand the reasoning, of course, but perhaps a closer look at your personal situation could allow for the occasional raspberry. Would love to help with that if you need a dietitian, or to help you find one in your area. Thanks for your comment!

      I was on stage 3 a three weeks ago. I was eating a lot of meat. I since completely changed my diet : vegan, intermittent fasting 16/8, 3 liters of water, 40 g of plant protein per day. My latest labs results show stage 2 after only three weeks of changing my diet. Hope this can help you.

    Is this ideal for diabetes and hyperoxaluria? Can it be done with these conditions?

    • @KidneyNutritionInstitute
      @KidneyNutritionInstitute  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good questions! If you have diabetes, low protein can work, but you gotta consider how much fat is in the diet. Low protein can also work with hyperoxaluria, but it's a little more complex as you also need to manage oxalate with calcium and alkaline foods to discourage stone formation. If it's something you're interested in trying, you can always schedule a free discovery call with Jessianna and talk through it. Link: kidneynutritioninstitute.org/book-your-dietitian-visit/

    What about older people who are low on protein?

    • @KidneyNutritionInstitute
      @KidneyNutritionInstitute  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Protein is always assessed on an individual basis. Some of our patients that need more protein to maintain muscle mass use ketoanalogues. However other times we find that people aren't so much low in protein as they are in overall calories and nutrients. I'd love to help you figure this out. Feel free to book a complementary call with Jessianna. kidneynutritioninstitute.org/book-your-dietitian-visit/

    Could you give an example? Say 170 pound male, grams of protein per day?

    • @KidneyNutritionInstitute
      @KidneyNutritionInstitute  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question about protein amounts, but I'm sorry to say-- it's not that simple. Giving an example of how much protein just based on gender and weight is a misleading recommendation. There are a LOT of other factors to consider. If this hypothetical 170-lb male has compromised renal function, that really matters. If you'd like further information on a renal diet and to learn what strategies we use at KNI to help patients get great results, please consider our FREE class: kidneynutritioninstitute.org/ckd-class/
      Hope to see you there and thanks for your question!

      It's acid forming and has lots of protein both of which are determential to kidney health. But it's better than meat and great for a chest day meal , especially sushi.
