- This is it, the current terminus of the Ashby Canal is just a handful of miles away. This final section is said to offer the finest, most gorgeous scenery so far - perhaps even of any canal on the network.
Before reaching the end of what has been a very 'mixed' and surprising journey, I still have the small matter of strong winds gusting to 50mph, as well as a tunnel (which carries the canal under the village of Snarestone), to contend with.

I love your channel Kevin, I binged watched on Amazon about 4 years ago and even though this is my 11th year on the boat and you think that a single handed continuous cruiser would not want to watch another but I do and I love it!
It’s had work because I’m so far out of touch with the world I never know what day it is, until Friday 😂😂😂
I used to know when it was a Sunday because of church bells but you don’t hear them anymore I’m not religious but at last it was a good way of letting folk know it was the end of a weekend 😂

well done Kevin, another season wrapped...the Ashby is my favorite of the canals you've travelled, gorgeous even in the dead of winter -- one can only imagine how luxuriant and lush the vegetation appears in high summer...I must say that your technical skill in recording the sights has visibly improved with each installment...have a great break -- of course we all look forward to your next post!!

Thanks, Kevin for another great episode. I’ve noticed with football results, the voice note should go down on the losing score and up (with a slightly surprised emphasis) for the losing score. Draws are read with a flat tone. I need to get out more.
I remember the voice of the football scores on Grandstand back in the 80's. He became very famous for it. 🙂

Friday viewing sorted again. I visited Skipton earlier today and had a ride on a narrowboat. I remember when you visited there a while back Kevin. What a gorgeous place. And YES I did find that award winning Pork Pie shop.
Cool, sounds like fun Daniel. Skipton is a wonderful spot on the Leeds Liverpool. Very good to hear the pork pie shop is still going. Must get back there and try another one or three. Hope you found that they lived up to my hype? 🙂
@@CountryHouseGent We too were in Skipton last week, We went to the WRONG PIE SHOP first before we found Stanforth's round the corner. Stanforth's had better meat but the WRONG PIE SHOP had better pastry. After that, we found a third "award winning" pie shop but we didn't try that because we were "all pied out." Then I happened upon Fran and Rich - no pie connection.

Well that went quickly. I was on the Ashby last week doing a bit of perch fishing on the lures .. had a lovely 1 pounder within minutes and thought i was in for a blinder .. until... suddenly.... all the fish decided to feed the ammassing ducks and geese with fish eggs ... oh bugger. At least i didn't have a dry net .. lovely canal. Hope to see you back soon Kevin. Stay safe, stay floating 👍👍👍

Hi Kevin, did you notice the absence of detritus in the canal and on the towpath on the Ashby canal. It has a reputation for being one of the cleanest canals on the Midland circuit, that's why we loved it so much, take care, Paul & Lyn, NB Emily.
Cheers Paul and Lyn. Now you mention it, yes the Ashby was remarkably devoid of rubbish and extremely well cared for along it's length.
A very satisfying season wrap-up! And with some determination; I could see how the wind would grab the boat in a couple of senes. I find myself content until you reappear and wish you good times and Godspeed, Kevin!

I enjoy watching your videos!! I’m in the U.S. near another lock that connects two of the upper Great Lakes; Lake Superior and Lake Huron via the St Mary’s River that divides the US from Ontario, Canada. I’ve always wanted to visit the UK but with your videos I get to enjoy the countryside rain or shine and learn a lot along the way. The architecture is fabulous.
I forgot to tell you our locks are called the Sault Locks. They service ocean vessels and ships that only travel the Great Lakes and are up to 1,005 feet long. There is a larger lock being dug currently but won’t be completed for approximately another 8-10 years. Just thought I’d pass that on.

Actually the winding hole at the end is max 52ft, I turned ours at 50ft there, no problem! Glad you walked up there and followed the old line.
That was an excellent finale to season 9. Fascinating content as usual! How amazing it would be if the last 8 miles of the Ashby canal was made good again. I'm already looking forward to season 10!! enjoy your break Kevin 🙂
