Iowa and South Dakota State set football back 100 years...

  • The college football game between Iowa and South Dakota State was one of the worst offensive games in college football history. Despite the final score being a lowly 7-3, this score still somehow makes this game look better than it was. Both teams scored field goals after the other team turned the ball over in their own territory. Iowa was able to score an additional four points by forcing two safeties when South Dakota State had the ball. So despite scoring 7 points, Iowa did not score a touchdown. Iowa finished the game with 166 total yards of offense while South Dakota State finished with 120. The two teams combined for a whopping 21 punts as the offenses could not get anything going. The fans in Iowa were so displeased that they booed the offense throughout the game. I would highly recommend not watching this video as it is extremely boring and 90% of it is punts, incomplete passes, sacks, and penalties.

What do you guys think about Kirk Ferentz? Do you think Iowa should start thinking about looking in a different direction or keep him until he retires? I know he’s done great things there, but I’d imagine watching so many bad offenses over the years has to be getting old for Iowa fans.

Iowa could have won by a much larger margin if they hadn't let their offense play a single snap. Every time they got the ball, they should have sent in their punter, pinned SDSU deep with a punt, and let their defense do the rest. 15 safeties later, they'd have a 30-0 win!

@@adamsieting3599 you clearly don't understand football. How could either offense be worse than "most" highschool teams when they're comprised of talent cherry picked from high school teams? What the fuck are you actually talking about...
Bad offense is usually the result of good defense. If the coverage is good, QB's put the ball in spots that are harder to catch because easy balls could result in interceptions. Incompletions are better than turnovers. Neither team ran the ball well which is due to stout run defenses. The idea that 11 guys on the field, whose job is to disrupt and stop what the offense is trying to do, had absolutely no affect on the offense not doing well is absurd.
Is either offense great? No. Iowa never has a great offense and SDS is in the Missouri Valley Conference. But Iowa had the 13th ranked scoring defense last season, 6th the year before, 5th the year before that and 11th the year before that. Their defense is usually fucking good.

You don't really expect FCS to be able to hang with FBS teams on either side of the ball but if they were to have executed those punts at anything even approaching "decent" it would have been the game. An outmatched team starting deep in their territory every drive and never able to do the same to their opponent isn't going to win no matter the disparity in talent level.
