    I remember the beautiful Larissa Lezhnina from her tours of the US with the Kirov, and for her Aurora, which I watched on VHS tape countless times. I believe she was the generation of ballerinas right after Asylmuratova, Chenchikova and Terekhova, but before Vishnyeva. This was a thinking dancer’s ballet class. Definitely not just a routine warm up class. I wouldn’t want to do Lezhnina’s class everyday, but making my brain work in company class once or twice a week would be just the perfect thing.

    I absolutely loved this class and extremely beautiful music! I know many dancers miss easier classes but this is an opportunity that really few have to watch and understand the work of Larissa Lezhnina. Adored for many but we most lived too far before Internet got that big. Thank you HET for bringing her. I'm here studying and very happy you provide that without any charging. Thank you Ms. Lezhnina and HET for this jewel!

    Not a fan of Prokofiev, but no wonder the Dutch National Ballet is one of the best, with such incredible ballet masters. So lucky to have guest ballet master, Larissa Lezhnina, with her incredible technique, impeccable training and musicality. Thank you for this class, with a wonderful ballet pianist, Olga Khoziainova, adapting the music to the exercises so proficiently, amazing demonstrators from the junior company (handling the difficult tempo with ease) and top ballet master.

    I miss Ernst so much. These ballet masters are lovely, but they are teaching for advanced company dancers and can be too difficult for us to follow at home. I do my best, but they make me feel that I really can't dance, where Ernst made me feel beautiful. It was almost like I was in the studio with him and he was making sure that I understood the settings before I did them. He gives great timing cues, so the music isn't a surprise (unlike some of these exercises!). He gave time between sides of the barre so that those of us in small spaces could adjust before tackling the second side, which is so important at home! And he never added extra movements (oh, and don't forget we have the releve after the first part...???). Please bring back Ernst! It's not that I don't think these ballet masters are wonderful...they are just teaching way above most of us!

    • @MonicaWWW
      @MonicaWWW 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Or you could rewatch Ernst's videos?? More instructors and difficulty levels mean more options for everyone.

    • @theballetpress3609
      @theballetpress3609 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MonicaWWW Haha...I dance for myself at least once a week and I had been using Ernst's classes for most of those since they were made last year (ballet here is still not allowed since March 2020! - plus I am the only teacher within hours of here who offers adult ballet classes, so I have no options other than TH-cam if I want to hear good cues and corrections from a teacher other than myself). I could just about take an exam using Ernst's exercises by now! With only 3 centre classes to work with, I know them off by heart! I've tried a lot of other online classes, but find they are either aimed at Beginner or very Advanced dancers. Ernst's classes were just at the high enough end of Intermediate level to challenge, but not so much as to presume that we are all professional dancers. Plus, as I also mentioned in my comment, he would leave time to adjust between sets, which is so useful when dancing at home so that the crab/spider shuffle doesn't become a muscle memory part of the routine!

    • @MonicaWWW
      @MonicaWWW 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theballetpress3609 @The Ballet Press If you're a teacher you should know the goal is to push yourself to be better each time whether the exercises remain the same (rewatched videos) or are above or below your level (new videos)? Why would there be a shuffle between sides if you, as a teacher, would know how to remember the exercise and turn to your other side?? Also there are millions of free classes on TH-cam and elsewhere. Really weird of you to tell Dutch National Ballet to REDUCE variety for everyone else.

    • @theballetpress3609
      @theballetpress3609 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MonicaWWW I'm not the only one to mention that Ernst's classes were preferred, so really weird of you to choose to argue with me about it and not any of the others who say the same...
      The shuffling between sides is to do with space. If I turn around at the "barre" (which is my upturned bed) for an exercise that continues on the second side then I can't lift my leg en l'air derriere, so I need to shuffle forward and I have a similar problem with my centre space. I have this with my own students on Zoom so, as the teacher, I don't give combos that continue both sides because, as a teacher, I know that shuffling backwards and forwards can encourage re-adjustment as part of muscle memory in students and I'm working hard to reduce that. Minimising re-adjustment also helps to allow students to focus on the exercise, rather than being distracted by space. This comment about giving time between sides of a combination was actually mentioned by another commenter in the previous barre class presented by Caroline and Caroline herself replied that this was great feedback that would be taken into consideration for future classes, but this video did not take it into consideration.
      There are thousands of videos available, you're right. But, as I mentioned in my last reply, most are aimed at professional dancers or beginners. Of course you can vary the level yourself, but that isn't always the best way to experience class. So, by requesting a return of Ernst, I'm actually asking Dutch National to INCREASE the variety of videos available across the entirety of streaming platforms by having a class that is aimed at a level to prevent some of us having to self-adjust, the way I would as a teacher for my own students. I would never have a student of mine take class with me that was too difficult for them and tell them to simply adjust or push yourself harder since it's not at your level. Of course we all work to push ourselves, but only within our own limits. At 36 years old and with only a small amount of time to give myself class in the week, I'm not doing anything wrong by expressing my opinion and preference for a previous style of teaching, as others here have and as people like you want to express for this style. So, I would be grateful if you could stop feeling a need to argue with me over my preferences and my freedom to express them :)
