Ballet Barre 8 (Online Ballet Class) - Dutch National Ballet

- In these intense and difficult times it’s important stay safe, but also to stay in shape! Therefore we’ve developed a few ‘ballet classes’ for our dancers, but you can join from your living room as well. Ernst Meisner, artistic coordinator of the Junior Company, teaches this barre and pianist Rex Lobo accompanies him on the piano. We will stream a ballet barre on TH-cam every Monday and Friday and will go live during a class with dancers (via ZOOM) on our Facebook page Het Nationale Ballet. All classes start at 11am (CET).

I love that Ernst encourages us even though he can't see us! It really feels like being in the studio again.
After one year, I still do the Ernst/Rex barres regularly. To me, they are still the best in terms of clarity, musicality and positivity :-)

I haven't gotten to take barre in a couple of years, but since the pandemic I have been training with Ernst and Rex 4-5 times a week! I can't thank you enough for this wonderful opportunity!

I think this one is my favorite so far. I feel like Ernst can tell that I'm starting to get better. The tendus in fifth (closed on 4, 3, 2, 1) was such fun. Thank you again Ernst and Rex!
Thank you again so much for such a beautiful class! Again and again, I am touched by the dedication of ALL the people involved in the production of this now weekly gift to the dancers all around the world.
For the first time today, I just watched the entire segment without moving myself. And I already appreciated the camera angles and switches from one view to another. The technicians for this production are making a huge difference! Thanks to that, it was very easy to follow Ernst's instruction on epaulement and also his fantastic descriptions on the key ideas in each exercise.
I also noticed Rex's air-piano-playing while Ernst is showing the exercise. (My favorite moment was Rex's checking the hand position for the polonaise for the grand battement!)
My favorite moment today was when Ernst made a quick "confession" after the first side of the rond de jambe. Thank you for including that "exchange" between the instructor and the pianist! That made today's "class" even more real, organic, and caring!
This offering is not warming up our body but also our heart! Thank you from California!

Is it just me or was that the hardest one yet? I was thinking it was sort of easy until the tendu and then it just went on... until the coup de gras, "Let's do another set of releves in passe. [groan from me]" Bravo on these classes, they are all amazing. Hopefully "safer at home" will become "stronger at home."

This is the only online class (including some I've done through zoom) that make me feel like I'm back in the studio. The comments on things to think about for the different movements (stretching from both top and bottom on rises, stacking spine, squeeeeeeze, etc) help so so much! Thank you both! Your teaching and Rex's absolutely beautiful piano playing are so greatly appreciated

I just want to say how much I am enjoying these classes! I had 12 years of ballet training growing up, but I am 54 now and it has been a long time since I danced. These classes are perfect for me! Please keep posting these even after the shut down!

Dank u wel! The beautiful and clear spirit of these classes are such a joy--and a strength-building challenge. After not dancing for 20 years, I returned about four years ago, this time to mostly modern. Your classes have returned so much of the ballet technique I had as a young person. I also want to thank the entire technical crew and the Dutch government for this gift.
Ernst, I love the creativity en musicality in your classes! The tendu's closing with the different count was frustating and fun at the same time! I also loved to watch Rex when Ernst explained the excercise. he is moving along with your movement. You can really hear it in his play during the exercise. Thank you so much for your classes. They keep me sane during these insane times.

These are all so great, but this one might be my favorite barre from Dutch National Ballet. Ernst's exercises are challenging & really make you think through your placement. Rex's playing is so soulful (also love the sneakers he wears in this vid haha). They are good as collaborators!

Fantastic class! I’m utterly motivated to do my best with these classes, this one was special at all! This is a merit of the master Ernst and the amazing Rex (love to take a look on TV whilst doing the left side), it’s usually not easy to try harder when you’re alone. I want to visit HET in person. Kisses from Brazil,
professionalism and skill. It's all there. you see and hear the work ethic. You witness the hours put in. And they enjoy it. Ballet is underrated. It is so physical. Along with yoga and Pilates, it's a great form of fitness for great shape without damage.
