Those cheap 2+1 Phases MB are notorious for forcing the CPU to throttle to the minimal frequency due to overheating. Gluing heatsinks (With Thermal Glue) on the Mosfets can help it stay stable. You can buy small heatsinks or cut them to size from old CPU/GPU coolers using a saw. The glue is cheap and since you only need a little you may even be able to get it for free with a local refrigerator maintenance/repair shop. Its a easy, cheap and effective mod. Give it a try :D
I've seen several budget cases from back in the day that had those rubber grommet apertures and they weren't for water cooling. They had retrofitted front panel USB 3.0 ports or 5.25" bays that had USB 3.0 ports with USB extension cables that you ran through the grommet and plugged directly into your existing USB 3.0 ports on the rear I/O. Really cheap way of adding front panel USB 3.0 to a dated budget case.
Hahaha I absolutely love the humor you give to your videos! Makes me come back for every time. Also I love these low end PC videos. They are great for PC enthusiasts!
Baking soda and warm water should clean up that textured black metal really well. If you watch a few classic computer restoration videos (8 Bit Guy, RMC - The Cave, and Adrian's Digital Basement come to mind) you'll pick up a bunch of techniques that you can use to clean up disgusting used machines. And Adrian's also from Canada, so you ought to feel at home! :)
Probably the bios version was incompatible with the gpu drivers. I had to update my bios recently in order for a new gpu to be installed. And let windows install the gfx driver before you do. The one windows installs is known stable. Also ensure gpu overclocking in bios is disabled before installing drivers.
Speaking of gag reflexes, I once put together a retro gaming rig, using a case that had been sitting, gutted, on the floor in my garage for fifteen years. You name it, it was in there and it was dead. Flies? Check. Spiders? Check. Earwigs? Check. Slugs?! CHECK! I'm not normally squeamish, but I did nearly spew. That case now holds a 1000 Mhz Athlon with Voodoo for Glide games, though. Totally worth it.
I worked in a warehouse where one department needed a basic pc to run a label printer. My boss bought an XT from another factory on our street and told me to get it up and running. I opened the case. You couldn't see the components. It was like being in a plane and looking down at the clouds. It was a solid block of dust. How it never caught on fire I have no idea. Had a slot AMD Athlon 500 when it started having issues I opened it up and the fan had literally packed the heat sink with dust.
The grommets at the back of the case are for USB cables to power internal devices from the external USB headers. When those cases were popular, a lot of 5.25 inch bay card readers/usb ports needed to be plugged in that way.
I worked on a custom built FX 8150 with overheating issues due to the fact the user's AIO's water pump quit working. Lucky he was using a Corsiar AIO which was still under warranty. I think the person you bought that PC from probably disconnected the parts at one time and then reconnected them back himself because I don't think anyone from IBuyPower would do cable management like that. I have seen Prebuilts with pretty nice cable management.
LOL reminds me of a cheap laptop that i took apart and had roaches all over Yeah tossed it back at the old owners car and broke his rear window a week later.
2:14 They put water cooling grommets on cases that clearly have no support for water cooling. So you can put a block on your CPU and the rad/pump/res outside the case(I think it's a Koolance system they used to sell that sat on top of your case).
I saw somewhere that if you update the MB bios... the RX 570 might work, some Amd cards need a newer motherboard bios to work, hope this helps. Great vids!
I have seen a lot of youtubers have problems with certain AMD cards on an older bios. Although I thought that was just not booting, could be wrong though.
2:23 wasn't the point of watercooling holes so you could use an external rad? It honestly makes more sense to use it for cases without radiator support.
Any multi threaded game runs just fine on AMD's FX cpu's even today. The Intel line released at around that same time seem to be slower than they used to be and are noticeably deficient when running modern multi threaded applications.
Hey @Dawid. I know it's an old vid but the problem u had with the rx 570, is related to the motherboard. The more budget AM3 and AM3+ motherboards for some weird reason don't properly power more modern and demanding gpus through the pci-e ports. I had a similar problem with an asus one when I had purchased an r9 290 back in 2014. Changed mobo to a higher end TUF one. worked perfectly. Also had the 8120
11:20 you're using the wrong dvi cable, you need a dual link dvi cable. all dvi ports are the same spec as far as I'm aware because I had 144hz on a gtx 460
That weirdly placed motherboard connector was the option LTP/parallel printer port for which you would've required a breakout cable that usually screwed in very close to the rear IO ports into a slot in the case, that's why its connector is placed directly behind the rear IO
I was browsing offer up and found a DELL 8920 XPS system up for sale for $550, I’m not told familiar with dells XPS line. I’ve never had a prebuilt before, but the price intrigued me. The seller specified it having an i7 8700 paired with a gtx 1080. Not a blower or dell reference one either it was a AORUS card. so I met up with him, unfortunately, the pc he showed me was a different one, same pc just a different GPU, It had a G1 gtx 1080 so not a deal breaker, I went through the pc and also discovered it had a 7700 not an 8700, it had 16gb of 2666mhz ram and a 500gb SSD, so I offered $450 and he accepted, I’m really happy with it too, it performs amazingly in the games I play.
That Dawid style TechYes lovin though. I wouldn't mind seeing you use a 1050 or 1060 as a substitute for an RX card. I find the lower end rx cards to be hit or miss especially when they are used or in these odd cases when they just don't play nice with older PCs. Speaking of GPU compatibility, did you update the motherboard BIOS?
I got a RX570 recently, and had similar issues with it. I couldn't find any PCIE lane information about the FX-8120, but when I used the card with the 16-lane i5 4570K, the card flat out refused to work properly if there was any other PCI-e cards installed at the same time. Maybe the USB3 card is causing it some issues? Could just be a me problem too, I suppose.
I've recently bought a used EVGA GTX 1070 and while the card was working it was so dirty and smelly I had to include that info in my feedback comment on eBay. Absolutely appalling, took me more than half an hour to clean it. It reeked of cigarette smoke and smelly cooking mixed together. People are awful.
I would have liked to see you show how you clean the circuit boards. Is it just canned air? I've I always wondered if there are spots where you can blow them too hard. Maybe this experience would inspire you to do a video about how to clean the inside the inside of the computer as routine maintenance.
I had a similar issue with a 5600XT that I was testing in an ancient rig (FX-6300 in an anemic motherboard with only PCI-e 2.0) that used to have a 660. Couldn't get any video output ever. Perhaps my issue was a conflict with the 5600XT being a PCI-e 4.0 card trying to run in a 2.0 motherboard.
Hey Dawid, you might try to do a driver signer patch tool from: www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher I had the same issue with an RX470 and after running that quick driver signer all was well and it saved my card / the budget build I was working on!
I actually just worked on a PC built in this EXACT case for a gentleman who also bought it from iBUYPOWER, he had a i7 3770k in it and a really old (and noisy) corsair AIO in it. The system was also extremely disgusting, which is a theme I've noticed with all the pre-built systems I've worked on. Oh and he was running a GTX 680 2gb, absolute beast.
2:20 these "watercooling in cases that didnt support water cooling" isnt quite acurate, that IS how Watercooling was Achived back in the day, incase mounted radiators really only became common around the time Optical drives(and arguably 3.5inch Hard drives) started dying out in most Cases that would have someone water cool with. before that Outside mounted raidators where the norm, with the radiator hanging from the back of the case and the grommets being there to get the tube in almost every case designed for watercooling had external rad mounts, becasue.. watercooling kits used external rads
Heh, you think that was dirty, I cleaned three pc's that would bully that one in the schoolyard with their dust alone just this Monday. One case was so dirty that I actually couldn't get some of the dust out due to the case design. As for the driver, assuming it is a fresh install of windows you might try updating the bios (yes even if it is to the same one)
I used to work for a local big chain computer shop and we hated getting in machines that were caked in dust and nicotine. We've had to clear out cobwebs, dead spiders and even a mouse.
A friend of mine gave me his old Cooler Master Wave master case. He was a chain smoker... I've never seen dust that was moist with tar and nicotine before. And I hope I never have to experience that again in my life!
For rx570 on cpus older then 4th gen i series you have to set the motherboard to legacy and then install the drivers. After the drivers is installed then set bios to uefi. Also change thermal paste on north bridge other wise it will boot cycle.
I picked up someone's pc for $100 on kijiji. He said he bought it as a pre built from a company 9 years ago. Had an i5 2500, 16gb ram, hd 6870, a disgusting antec case. Dust everywhere, weird stains, scratch marks, dents, pet hair EVERYWHERE. Sold the case and hd 6870 for like $20 each, and picked up a zotac gtx 960 for $100 cad. I probably over payed for the gtx 960, but there weren't many deals to be had since it was during the pandemic
He Dawid, i actually made a cheap build like a month ago with an FX8120, 8Gb of ram and a EVGA 560. I only swap the 560 for a Gigabyte 760 2GB and it actually run pretty well. Cost about 270$ 90$ for the basic pc 60$ for the 760 80$ for a coolermaster Hyper T2 and a 240GB Kingston SSD 50$ For a new case (sold the old case for 35$)
Hey Dawid, I have the exact same rx570 and fx8120 combo. I found out for me that the drivers weren't recognized due to previous drivers not completely getting uninstalled. I ran DDU the third party driver removal stuff. Restarted and the drivers installed super quick. Not sure if you hadn't already figured out the issue though.
11:45 and here i am with my pentium g3240 and at lowest setting i get 10 to 40 fps and the textures don't load a lot of the time (i have a gtx 750 from palit as a graphincs output)
Unfortunately home environments are perfect for combining carpet/cat/dog fibers and human dead skin and grease into coatings of awfulness inside your average PCs. I really don't understand why there aren't case manufacturers that integrate proper air filters into their cases so that computers don't get grunged up like this. Also fans are a particular bone of contention. They are a major pain in the ass to demount for cleaning the low pressure side of the blades immediately start attracting grunge. Quick release fasteners for fans would be a start and don't get me started on how the hell you are supposed to clean the average CPU cooler after 6 months operation without breaking the entire machine down. Nice video as always Dawid. Here's an idea for a future video. Take an old school computer case, rip out the redundant stack of drive bays and install a large filter like a car filter and a brace of fans to provide clean filtered air inside the case.
I have seen some horrible things in my life...I cleaned some PCs that looked like abandoned houses after a horrible war, I probably have many unknown viruses and bacteria in my body due to those PC cleanups
this is definitely some little kid's first build and you're shitting on him he probably doesn't even do his own washing, let alone cable management and dusting

I have a lot of rx series gpu's in my country which were used for mining, most of them faulty but repairable each being around 30-40$ on average.
What does it matter what the cables look like when you are going to cover them over with a totally opaque panel?
He opened the CPU case and all I could hear in my mind was a loud high pitched yell for like 20 seconds...
Those cheap 2+1 Phases MB are notorious for forcing the CPU to
throttle to the minimal frequency due to overheating.

I recently had to drill some holes in the back of my Phanteks case to allow external water cooling!
"Doesn't trigger my gag reflex anymore" Hahaha, hilarious!
You are the most humorous of all the tech youtubers I watch, man, keep it up.

Hide the pain Harold meme 😂
Used to be a Slot Technician, this PC is squeaky clean compared to some of those machines. Literally pulled carpet rugs out on more than one occasion.
Bro i loved your videos they are so chill and interesting man you seriously deserve more recognition. Kept it up vato!
"The problem started when I opened up the side panel" ... lol
"Just because we got holes it doesn't mean we can fill them"
Story of my life right there..
2:23 cant resist a chocolate starfish can you?
LOL reminds me of a cheap laptop that i took apart and had roaches all over Yeah tossed it back at the old owners car and broke his rear window a week later.
2:14 They put water cooling grommets on cases that clearly have no support for water cooling. So you can put a block on your CPU and the rad/pump/res outside the case(I think it's a Koolance system they used to sell that sat on top of your case).
I saw somewhere that if you update the MB bios... the RX 570 might work, some Amd cards need a newer motherboard bios to work, hope this helps. Great vids!
Looks liks someone threw shit in through the fans whilst they were running. Absolutely disgusting!!!!!
I have seen a lot of youtubers have problems with certain AMD cards on an older bios. Although I thought that was just not booting, could be wrong though.
I hope this channel get over a million subscribers because the amount of effort on making these videos is top notch. Keep up the good work
2:23 wasn't the point of watercooling holes so you could use an external rad? It honestly makes more sense to use it for cases without radiator support.
Any multi threaded game runs just fine on AMD's FX cpu's even today. The Intel line released at around that same time seem to be slower than they used to be and are noticeably deficient when running modern multi threaded applications.
4:52 i think that white spikey connector is for one of those old purple printer ports
Kind of like when you tell your kid to clean his room and he just throws everything in the closet.
2:23 Im dying, you just couldnt resist, could you.
Invest in an air compressor, that way the dust won't get wet and stick to the case. It's much quicker than cleaning by hand

If the dvi only supports 1080p 60fps... why not use the hdmi?
5:37 Please get a little 1/4 inch socket set with screw driver handle.
Hey Dawid, you might try to do a driver signer patch tool from:
www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher
I had the same issue with an RX470 and after running that quick driver signer all was well and it saved my card / the budget build I was working on!
Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that out.
Dawid Does Tech Stuff awesome hope it works!
steel wool did not work?`if everything was removed, but not just use industrial cleaners, but maybe not as strong that it will remove the paint
At one point I figured that enough was enough and cleaned a PC with a leaf blower.
I'm never going back
Very cool video Dawid! I really like your editing!
I worked on a desktop repair and found dried blood inside the case. That was really nasty.
6:55 when you take your pc to the beach
When you have to do a bit of sandblasting to clean your computer... 😂😂
2:20 these "watercooling in cases that didnt support water cooling" isnt quite acurate, that IS how Watercooling was Achived back in the day, incase mounted radiators really only became common around the time Optical drives(and arguably 3.5inch Hard drives) started dying out in most Cases that would have someone water cool with.
before that Outside mounted raidators where the norm, with the radiator hanging from the back of the case and the grommets being there to get the tube in
almost every case designed for watercooling had external rad mounts, becasue.. watercooling kits used external rads
2:20
The mind: don't do that, don't do that, don't do that...
The finger: goes into the grommet
Damn.. Big difference from before and after.. Good job Dawid

Update: took a garden hose to it, its better now.
I liked and enjoyed it, that you got to clean that up.
The pleasures of being a nerd :) i cleaned old pcbs the other day myself.. Great fun :)
Purple power degreaser works pretty well for cleaning those old cases, but make a test spot in case it hurts the paint or anything
Cost about 270$
90$ for the basic pc
60$ for the 760
80$ for a coolermaster Hyper T2 and a 240GB Kingston SSD
50$ For a new case (sold the old case for 35$)
Dude get a medium size paint brush and use it to remove dust from annoying places. It does wonders.
Haha!! Yeah, all the IT people in the comment section have seen some shit. :P
