    I'm cool with more travel on an ebike, your point is well taken. My only issue with more travel is that I don't want that to equal a bigger and longer bike. I ride in very tight and technical areas. I need a quick and flick like bike

      Correct me if I’m wrong, but according to the geo charts the Sight has a larger reach then the equivalent Range? Large range 475mm reach, large sight 485mm, and about 9mm in wheels base (range is longer).
      So they are pretty similar. Think I’m going to go the range, go big or go home :)

  • @danfarmer_photo

    I agree with you about the travel, to a point. However, for a heavier rider with a massive amount of travel… no matter how you set the bike up, you do lose the ability to be super poppy off smaller roots, ruts and anything you can jump off. One of the benefits of an ebike is that you can do ALL forms of riding from buzzing around a fairly flat xc loop, to smashing a DH trail. I just find some of the flatter riding less fun with super long travel and all of that weight shifting around. I found between 150mm rear and 160/170mm front end to be the ‘do-all’ sweet spot.
    Thanks for the video! ✌️

  • @sarcritchlow
    @sarcritchlow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree. My as well have more travel with an emtb. Same weight with more traction.
    Im finding i like the seat angle not as steep as current steep seat angles. I like the steep sa on my enduro bike to winch it up a hill with the seat jacked to full extension. On my emtb i ride with the seat a couple inches lower a lot of the time and you can move the bike around better when seated when the sa isnt so steep. Super steep climbs i have the seat all the way down , butt over the rear wheel for traction and elbows very bent to keep the front down. You need this position and you dont need full leg extension with boost. With the seat lowered and a super steep SA the cockpit is super cramped. Slacker SA gives more room to move.
    Emtb need min 10mm more travel and a couple gedree slacker seat angle

    I can see the 3 travel option`s definitely. From my every day work at a Bike store I recognized that a lot of people buy full suspension e bikes because they are comfortable and dynamic. We do have a lot of customers who do not ride trails but more street and forest roads with gravel. So more suspension isn`t needed. The strange thing is that these specific group of customers is much bigger than the ones who really ride trails... We even hook up bikes like these with fu*kin fenders, light and rear racks.
    Maybe NORCO wants get get them as well, to spend their money, not only the "real" MTB people.

    • @rezenclowd3
      @rezenclowd3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would agree, it takes quite a bit of dedication to ride gnarly, fast, playful, IE experienced trails. If you want to putter around and see the sights instead of tackling the black and double black, why get that extra suspension? Also, flow trails lend themselves better to the faster ramp up of shorter travel bikes. I myself only have chunky black and double black near me, and as a new rider wish I had bought more than 150mm as I tend to bottom out on the nasty rocks we have. It's enough that when I shuttle ride with my friends, they bring their DH rigs, but I alas will not have too many bikes.

    This talk of having multiple batteries to 'change' over. The old VLT was a HORRIBLE poorly engineered experience to change battery, you had to drop the motor and wiggle the battery out which wedged in poorly engineered weld seams (at least in my experience), then putting it back took twice as long as there were no inner cable routing or stays.
    This new model appears a little different, the moto appears to be seated higher with a pull tab for the battery??

  • @jackfeder8484

    Suspension travel is a big question for me. I am likely moving to BC, but even here in Ontario, I maxed out the volume spacers on my low-travel Fluid and found that I rode better because I wasn't getting confused by all the extraneous suspension travel on sections that went from low to high G-loading but it still permitted the travel on the hits. I recognize that BC needs much higher travel than Ontario and the comment on e-bikes make sense, but I am concerned that all the travel in the Range would mess me up, and I don't plan to take lots of air (retired, not young).
    Anyone have experience on the deleterious effects of lots of travel other than efficiency?

    I have a different view regarding the chain-stay length. It is the very reason I stick with Norco since 2014. They tune the length of the chainstay according to frame size, giving you the same weight distribution across all sizes. I've always been between two sizes (M & L), and this geometry feature from Norco gives the right balance no matter what size I select.
    When manufacturers go with only one chain-stay length, the balance of the bike could change drastically given the size you ride with.

    I have the regular 2020 Sight and it's quite decent. I actually got to demo the original 2018 or 19 Sight VLT as well, and that was I think a 140mm fork and 130mm frame? THAT bike felt too short and didn't really make sense to me as an e-bike, but I don't live somewhere with ridiculous technical climbs (lucky enough to have fire roads and climbers paths, etc. - which is part of the reason I'm still on a non e-bike) and the reason I got the new Sight instead of the Range is because I didn't think I'd notice the difference on the local trails. I don't think there would be any difference where I am except for maybe the downhill bike park, and if you're the sort of person to do both, then getting a coil shock to put on your Sight VLT is cheaper than buying a DH bike. Not everyone rides their bike like an enduro-racing monster either, so for some people who do more mellow rides the shorter travel = longer range and more connected feeling with the bike.

    Only for the...lazy rich. I've had no fun with e-bikes. Heavy, and the battery gives you very limited travel. And the battery longevity is dependent on your body weight, steep hills, and how often ya use turbo mode. And the strength of wind you're riding against. And batteries(crappy Li-Ion), are typically ruined in cold weather. And I ride 365 days a year. Maintenance is another issue. A new battery can cost as much as a hardtail. And most e-bike geeks, don't consider a few grand, a-lot of money. But to passionate riders, as myself, whom have a gluttony of bills and a family to care for, a few hundred is a-lot of money. Spending five, six, twelve grand on a bicycle, is just...stupid. Especially when the bike is made in China for a couple hundred.
