- BMW has unveiled its much anticipated fourth-generation’ G45’ version of its big-selling X3 SUV and we get up close with this one-on-one, deep dive walkaround.
With bolder styling, wider and longer dimensions, BMW Operating System 9 tech, and promises of improved efficiency and performance, the all-new X3 takes on the likes of Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Volvo XC60 as the king of the premium midsize family haulers.
The X3 makes its global debut with four different variants offering the choice of turbo petrol, plug-in hybrid and diesel power.
We preview the flagship X3 M50 xDrive version, packing 293kW and 580Nm from its 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol six with 48-volt mild-hybrid electric assistance. It brings family friendly practicality, with 570 litres of boot space in a package swift enough for 4.6sec 0-100km claimed performance.
Chasing Cars contributor Nathan Ponchard takes us for a deep dive in this comprehensive walkaround.

Current x5 is peak bmw design. I fear the next gen will be ugly.
Btw those door handles might look better but the old pull style are so much better to use
Pull out one got dents and dings all over them rather than the door itself, so that's not being spoken about enough either.
Oh no! I need to get the current one before they’re all gone.
I have same thought
One of the highest depreciating cars you can buy. Don't do it
@@yuhboyifywhat about the x4?
@@EmperialHails yep, x4 also. Just look online. Poor bloke has a 2022 x3 30i with 14,000 km. Immaculate. Practically new. Asking 66k and can't sell it. That car costs 111k new on road. Not far off half of its value wiped out in 2 years with little use. Same with Audi, Mercedes, and porsche (macan and cayenne; "real" 2 door porsches have great resale)
@@EmperialHails buy a used one that's immaculate. Otherwise, be prepared to lose 50% of its value in 3 years
Fabric seats for this price range . Unacceptable
They destroyed another one...
the rear line looking from the front looks like it's a hatch.. not suv..
I actually prefer this update to the outgoing version. The larger dimensions give it a wider stance…like an X5. Thanks for a great review.
Great video and honest review!
Looks stunning, it will warm to a lot of people, great review too 😊
I'm surprised theres no more 30i variant, that seems like the sweet spot for most people
Terrible cartoony design 😐
BMW customers learn to love all kinds of polarising designs. You just accept that's how it looks
I dunno, I actually quite like it. Initially, I was looking for reasons not to but in this guise I think it looks quite handsome compared to some other newer ‘designs’. It’ll certainly be a popular model in the range.
Those interior lights remind me of my old Sony ghetto box
Love it! XM mini
I noticed almost every BMW released for the past 5 years is criticized for it's design but later grow on us. I think this is a beautiful looking car.
Those buckteeth grilles never grew on me to this day...
Love all the new aspects of this BMW X3! Looks ready to embrace the future
Great review mate !!!
The materials are pre-production
How much the costs if someone hit the back?
I would like to suggest to BMW designers to reduce the size of that grill, interiorly maintain some classic dashboard design
Having now seen the new generation X3, I still prefer the Mercedes GLC range.
Yes!!!!!!
The design is definitely for the younger generation and a great shift to change the monotone classic BMW design
Terrible plastic door handles! WTF.
And the edge protection in the trunk also now plastic…
I’m so happy to have purchased a 2023 it was my dream suv for so long. I’m just not sure about this new model. The dash is weird looking, the back looks too flat and why on earth doesn’t the sunroof open?!!
No diesels for Aust . 2 petrols confirmed, another 2 or 3 variants or so will likely eventually join the Aussie lineup , but BMW Aust so far have not lodged required docs for any oilers in the X3 range locally. An oiler possibly could join the range again at some stage, but so far it's not overly likely. The current diesel variants still accounted for about 15% or so give or take of total X3 Sales. Though BMW's HQ have made a range of petrol, diesel , PHEV engines available for BMW Aust etc , its BMW here that will make a final decision on what we will get. It's likely to be fairly limited. Locally BMW appear to be consolidating a number of models/variants .
Looks awesome 👍👍👍👍👑
Can you turn off the safety at a touch of a button?
Yes by pressing a button ✅ on steering wheel
no open sunroof
No 30D variant? The G01 X3 30D engine (6-cyl, 3.0L, 195kW 620Nm, 0-100 in 5.8s) is arguably BMW's most reliable engine. Also in X5 and X7, but more bulk/weight than in X3. None of the diesel rattle of the 4-cyl. My real world 6.1L/100 Km country, 9.2L city. No dramas after 6 years, so I will skip the G45.
Not sure about Australia, but 30d is coming at least in Europe next year (rumors are that during summer).
G01 still for thr win
@ 12:40 Imagine buying a x3 because its a "luxury" brand then having to reach over from the boot to the rear seats to drop them when you need the 2nd row flat, not even a pull lever or button to drop them more conveniently.... yikes
zero level big deal.
South Africa will produce the PHEV only for non USA markets
Mini XM ❤😊
lazy designers..oversized X1 on the front.
The LED grille is so tacky. Imagine driving with that..
pep boys aisle 4.
love it ❤
Plastic door handle 🤮. One of the most used part of a vehicle and they chose to cheapen the feel
non opening roof? whats the point of the pano sunroof if it doesnt open?...and they need to bring back night vision...and i think they should bring the Alpina x3 over to the US...at least we dont get that useless GPF that kills the sound...
Bmw had so many issues with the panoramic sunroof so they obviously ditched it.
cost cutting everywhere... no way that this is premium. come on bmw
I like this new Mazda SUV
Price 🤔
That's unlikely to surface until closer to its arrival. We'll keep you posted.
Z pełnym wyposażeniem 10000 euro. Konfigurator już działa.
yikes. some good some really bad design on the exterior. no hvac buttons on the interior? hard pass.
The previous generation’s design is way more better, aggressive, harmonic and even modern. This looks as a Chinese something.
The resale on these things is absolutely horrendous
❤❤❤❤
I can see the USB ports being an issue in the next year or two when stuff falls into them: dirt, debris, liquids, etc.
The beginning of Klauss…nice design, interior not so much
It doesn't look much different than what's already on the market. I was expecting the weirdness of the concepts.
Brother, uuuuuuuuuh
A very controversial design. Civilian BMWs are now indistinguishable from M. The design of the M-style mirrors is very strange and the headlights too. Why are not all the lights on at the back, but only part of them? What will they do with X4 :(
P.S. Where are the new M seats? The design of the triangular headrests is infuriating.
the rear looks atrocious. Reminds me of an old 1 series.
Don’t be hating on the old 1 series, one of my fav bmw’s I had lol
The design was inspired by Toyota.
The headlights and that lower black piece on the front bumper is seriously not doing the car ant justice. Who ever is in charge at the design section of BMW is killing the brand. Gone are the days where one could look at a good looking BMW, cars like the E46. Today's BMW products have zero emotions and to make matters worst their engines don't even sound good, the V8 sounds like a 4 cylinder and bread and butter straight six sounds like a dying goat. What happened to BMW??
He's so yummy!!! Wish he did every review.
Boring, look like a Toyota, no side vents. I now love my 2018 and probably will keep for as long as possible. They need to go back to the drawing board.
Wow...that's the ugliest interior I've seen from bmw in a while
Hey Royd come on man give us some imperial measurements too. I think it needs a kidney transplant anyway, i don’t like it.
This is the top of the range M50 and if you think this design is hideous wait till you see the updated “ regular” x20i and 30i 😂😂. What a joke BMW!
Interior PLASTIC door handles are criminal at this price point.
I HEARD Theres no X3M 2025 💀💀💀💀
BMWs designs are getting preeeeetty boring to be honest
😂😂😂
there must be a committee at BMW working out how to make their cars even uglier. This thing is a horror story!
Dune? More ugly exterior paint colors? Ugly "oval things" door handles? Cloth covered dash? Too much plastic, too much vegan, non-animal material in the interior. I'll bet all those 17 year old gamers that can afford a BMW think that interior looks awesome. I'll keep my '22 M40i for a long time.
Your car looks old, and I can't think of a BMW more in need of being updated. The 1er maybe, but that's being replaced, too.
All those criticism what do you expect? Big grills you complain, small grills you complain, average grills you still complain while they keep selling
Disgusting
ugly ,G01 was the best
Another ugly BMW.
Poopy design
Sucks X3 ever
For Australians X3 must have a diesel looks like l am keep my 2yr X3 diesel
看起来更廉价了
so many bad tasters here. the new X3 is excellent !
