To tell you the truth, it pains me to read these comments about the reaction to the great human being that Dimash is! I didn’t watch the reaction. If you would care to know, Dimash trains EVERY single day for at least 3-4 hours for 25 years now. He is the hardest-working Artist I know! No tricks, gimmicks, just hard and dedicated work!

It got better at the end. But I think the problem was the song itself. 😅
He googled it, read something about Rock-Opera, got stuck on the word Opera (even though realistically the genre is more Rock and Musical than Opera) and then started to judge this from an Opera perspective.
This led to him complaining about the composition, the echo on the mic, Dimash putting on a show (not looking as relaxed as Pavarotti). And stating he was just showing off. And the instruments were too loud as well. 😂
At one part he claimed, that the song was easy to sing. (Which made me really question his competence - with this being one of the top 5 most difficult French songs to sing. 😳🤯 )
And he didn’t seem to even notice the many switches in vocal techniques and styles.
Who else can sing classical and rock and musical and pop and switch that easily from one to the other? And the breathy part at the beginning is also very hard to do right, which he also didn’t get. 😅
But I somehow have the feeling, that he just didn’t believe it and tried to find the "trick". And with this mindset he couldn’t feel anything, like we do.
I‘m ready to see if he changes his mind, when he sees more. As long as he forgets about the opera. Dimash is a crossover singer! That means he wants to bring classical singing into other styles. That doesn’t make them opera!
If he had seen a pure Rock song in his mind, he would certainly not have complained about any Rock elements or the show or the instruments. 🫣 (I hope)
But at the end he said that he was a very good singer, and not many could do what he does.
But he didn’t feel it. And there is the one legitimate complaint. We can’t make him love Dimash If he doesn’t! 😉
At least we know that Dimash conveys emotions because we can feel it. ❤ And we love the show, that has been put on during the pandemic to give us a spectacle, because we couldn’t go to normal concerts. And we enjoy the visuals so much! 🥰
But not everybody has the same taste. (I don’t really understand how this can leave anyone cold, but well… it is what it is…)
Let’s see if his perspective changes with other songs. 😅

hej both. Good you listen to Dimash. Dimash does not sing in an operatic way, he calls it neoclassical musik, and his prowess ought not to be consideret from a purely operatic perspective. Dimash is very theatrical and wishes to make a performance and show. He has studiet musik and is at the moment doing a doctoret in musik. He composes his own musik, and makes a lot of different styles of musik. To hear his own musik se"war and peace", the latest song is Smoke, which is very poppy, or the almost acustic version of his song Omir, which is en ode ti life. Put on the captions to his songs, the lyrics is always very good and is the leading parameter for how he sings the song. he was offered a place in Astana opera, but wanted to do more different musik. You schould se him singing with Placido Domingo in the Pearlfischers duet, or Ulysses with the operasinger Aida Garifulina. He is not singing opera, but is trained in operatic singing and likes to insert operatic elements in his musik.
    He plays several musikinstruments.
I have followed Dimashes musik since 2017 and consider him one of the most versatile, theatrical, and passionete singers, with a fenomenal range, always on pitch, always with integrity in his musik and his performansis and with a great passion for music in all forms. Hes musikvideos are of very, very good cinematic quality. Hes a very dilligent artist.
    Greetings from Denmark.

Have your father watch "Omir" with Dimash on keyboard and his brother, Mansur, on guitar. It's a mellow, non-electronic song with no vocal gymnastics written by Dimash that is a reflection on his life and rise to fame.

This is a song that Dimash has often sung in competitions, so I think that's one reason why it uses so many different vocal styles and most of his vocal range. Because Dimash has a very large vocal range, he enjoys using it to express his feelings in songs. I think you're right that when people write music for Dimash they can tend to write to showcase his vocal range. (A lot of Igor Krutoy's songs do that, though I think that Dimash manages to put emotional expression into them also.)I must admit that I do enjoy his high notes! It's often the thing that first hooks people into looking into Dimash further. Dimash doesn't sing pure opera (as I'm sure you noticed right away!), but rather uses techniques from it to colour or flavour his singing. He also uses pop and jazz techniques. This was his own choice as he was offered a position in the opera but turned it down to be able to create his own styles. Dimash has usually had lyricists write the words for his songs, but has composed several now. Some that come to mind are: War and Peace, My Beauty (one of his first. It's super pop-y and I think his dad wrote the lyrics.), Omir, El Amor en Ti. Maybe your dad would enjoy hearing "Ti Amo Cosi" which is sung with two other singers, an opera singer and Lara Fabian. It doesn't have many distractions either. El Amor en Ti is mainly classical. Another your dad may like to see is "Omir", the version with Dimash at the keyboard/piano and his brother playing guitar. Nice and simple. It's the only song I know of where both the music and lyrics are composed by Dimash. "Samaltau" from the Tokyo Jazz Festival is another very simple setting. Just Dimash and two others sitting in his studio. It's about a young man who was forced into the army during WW1. As he's setting off, he is remembering his homeland and his aging parents and wondering what lies ahead of him. Dimash does so many different songs, genres and languages. It really does take time to get a feel for his work. Personally, I think you don't really get the full experience of his songs without seeing him as he sings. He uses his whole body to express the meaning and feeling of the song. Some people like to close their eyes and just listen, but I feel more emotion through watching as well. Anyway, I hope your dad will sample a few more styles of Dimash's songs and see what he thinks. (And hey, it's good for us Dears to hear some views from people who are not instantly gobsmacked! )😆

This song is a pearl of the French songbook: It is a French-Canadian cyberpunk-rock opera called “Starmania”, written in 1976 by Michel Berger (France) and with lyrics by Luc Plamondon (Canada) and immortalized in the voices of Daniel Balavoine, Diane Dufresne and Gregory Lemarchal. The theme of the song is depression: In the 2021 version, Dimash faithfully and brilliantly presents a sentimental and melancholy interpretation! As the singing decisions follow the original structure of the song, which serves to show the psychological instability of the afflicted character: From the chest voice to the head voice and then to falsetto, the author sought to show a broad need to overcome a moment of despair and the pretense of accepting to reach a higher perspective! Dimash, currently at his concerts, dedicates this song to his friends and acquaintances who have departed this world!

Maybe your Dad would like Ikanaide that Dimash sang in Japanese for the Tokyo concert. Every video that Dimash does has a new take and something beautiful. Also, maybe listen to OMIR with Dimash and his brother Mansur. Dimash composed this one. Dimash sang opera with Placido Domingo recently, as well. I love all his music. Also to note, Dimash has been studying music for more than 20 years, and is currently working on his doctorate.

    • @FretsOnFire
      @FretsOnFire 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Ikanaide will be far too breathy for him. I would say El Amor en Ti or Olympico, but I think Pops wants to impose his own subjective taste onto Dimash; he's refusing to be impressed, even though he's never heard anyone do what he's just heard Dimash do, and he doesn't know of anyone who can do it. Not only in terms of range, but in terms of dramatic acting ability, subtle vocal inflections, huge charisma, variety AND range, all together - in other words, Dimash! He talks about the effortlessness of Pavarotti, but vocal coaches & singers constantly talk about the effortlessness of Dimash. He talks like Dimash is putting all this effort into producing the sound, when the effort he perceives is actually Dimash throwing everything of himself into the song, being the persona of the song. We know of course, that he does not have to put much effort into his vocal.
Pops knows as well as we do that Pavarotti or none of the other opera singers can do what Dimash does!! But he refuses to be impressed, it's that simple. I don't think he'll like anything he hears after this point, I hope he doesn't react to Dimash again, in fact. I have the impression he has his mind made up. Now I think the son has a completely different view of Dimash, I think he absolutely loves him, but maybe doesn't want to argue with his Dad or whatever.
Nobody throws themselves more into a song than Dimash, he is usually not singing about himself! And who has made more people cry than Dimash??
I hate to say it, but let's face it....Pops is a singer, and I don't care if he's good, I don't have to hear him to know that he just got seriously smoked!! Being a singer, and with his apparent level of knowledge, I think he knows full well that Dimash can project without a mic & I think he can hear in his head what he would sound like without the effects. I think I detect green around his gills....

Ok, so your dad is being kind-of rude here. I do agree that there are a lot of effects used in this video that I am not fond of at all. My favorite version and the one I think anyone should start with is the Singer 2017. But if your dad is determined not to like his crossover style of music, he probably won't like much of what Dimash performs. Dimash absolutely has a rare gift and has put in SO MUCH WORK to gain this level of range and control. I can't even comprehend the number of hours he must have dedicated to get this good. Calling him a freak show is very disrespectful and dismissive of all this young man has accomplished. I'm not mad or anything because reactions are what they are. Also he has performed with other opera singers as Aida Garifullina a great soprano (Ti Amo Cosi), and Sundet Baigozhin, one of the best baritones of the Bolshoi Opera (Tu Vas Me Detruire).
He has a master degrees in Bel Canto, Composition, Contemporary music and Musicology.
He does crossover, a mix of different styles, even ethnic folk from many cultures, so his art is very complex and unique and totally free...beyond bounderies.

The fact that he started with “I hope this is not one of the freak show” started his mindset and just readily labeled it as it is it. Just because he did not get what or how he wanted it. Me again! Yes, Dimash has some songs that are written to showcase his vocal range and his ability to jump from high to low etc. He has some that showcase his vocal agility or breath control. In some he experiments with airy singing. In some he tries out various styles of pop. Some are written to express an important message, sometimes with vocal gymnastics and other times with simple melodies. Some are Kazakh folk songs which show his love for his homeland, Some are simply a gift from his heart to his fans. He has said that he thinks that now, while he is young, he should experiment and try different things that interest him. Will he one day settle down to a single genre or style? Who knows? My guess is no.

Rock operas are a bit different,
And the thing is, when the lyrics talked about birds are flying, Dimash goes high, when he talks about being grounded he is going low.
Dimash is not an opera singer, he is neo classical, or pop opera,
But, Placido Domingo embraced him, and so did his show “the Virtuoso’s,”
    Here on TH-cam.
When Dimash sings opera like, he is not opera,
    Hearings Ulysses with Aida G.
    Who is opera,
    Placido Domingo the Pearl Fishers.
He is introducing many to search operas, people who would be intimidated by opera snobs, and the stigma of opera…
The song “Omir,” acoustical with his brother Manseur playing guitar.
In opera, language is always a barrier…

There is no distortion on his voice or anything that changes it. Echo is an absolutely normal effect that replaces natural acoustics in venues where it doesn't exist. This piece is not an opera. And the lyrics are important to understand why he sings it this way. You can try and watch his duet with Placido Domingo to see more of his operatic style and to be convinced that this is not about effects on his voice, this is his natural ability. It's on his channel. Dimash is a highly educated and versatile singer and musician, and he is a great composer as well. You father can like or dislike him, but calling him a freak is not very nice or polite. Being respectful goes both ways, you know.

I feel terrible as I was one of the ones that suggested bringing your dad on to the show. 😪😭
Very sad. I am older than he and yet not near so closeminded.
This is a reaction not a voice competion. There was no need for you dad to get so defensive.
This is not Opera it is a different genre called Crossover.
If your Dad had been less diffensive and rigid, he would have noticed the skill and agility of moving back and forth between chest and head voice plus the fact that he included 3 different genre singing styles in this one piece. Dimash is an exceptional vocal athlete.
This song was written for a 4 Octave range and is considered one of the most difficult songs in the world to sing.
The only electronic effects is the use of echo on the mic which is a creative choice. Most of his versions of this song lack the echo effect.
Dimash has perfect pitch and there are lots of shorts/fancams where Dimash sings A Cappello.
Just because no other person on the planet can sing as well as Dimash does not make him a freak.☹️
I would recommend that for your next Dimash reaction with your father, you choose "The Pearl Fishers Duet" sung with Placido Domingo. I suspect your father might know who he is.🙄

The problem is that most singers can only show 2 octaves, some 3, a handful of them 4 and then, there is Dimash with 6+ octaves. That means he shows off because he gives us what he can offer? Every artist offers his/her best whenever they can. Well Dimash can do his and more and I am so glad we can witness this jewel of the human voice. ❤ from Spain 🇪🇸

your dad is made of reinforced concrete. I also had a dad like that... But for them it’s like protection. Inside themselves they are very sensual. I’ll find a link where Dimash sang with Placido Domingo. But there they literally sang impromptu. And probably the vocalization on the song “Know.” And the peak is “The Story of One Sky” (video clip). And immediately after it, watch this song from a concert in Almaty (live sound).

I am a dear, and I can understand what your father is saying. This is not the SOS performance that a trained opera singer like to listen to because of all the effects behind. For SOS I would recomend the performance at slaviansky bazar. There, he can see how effortless he sings, without visual effects and more less audio effects envolved! You could also show him his performance with Placido Domingo (who by the way asked him to perform together).
He composed several songs (mostly the music since some are written in different languages, but he obviously was involved in the message to be told) Unforgettable day, Peace and War, El Amor en Ti (in Spanish, also operatic style), Under One Sky, Omir (he composed both, music and lyrics. I like the study version because of the lack of visuals and sounds behind), When I’ve got You, Smoke. All are very different types of songs in different styles. It’s impossible to understand Dimash by listening only one song. On the other hand, I recommend to always turn on the captions because Dimash is a performer that really paints the lyrics, but since he sings in many different languages, the captions help to understand the reason behind every dynamic).
Anyways, his opinion is also based on his sensations and they are what they are. Not to be offended. A Dear, opera trained, from Spain 🇪🇸

First I'd like to address the use of the word "freak". I don't disagree with your recognition that Dimash is extraordinary, but the word you used has some seriously derogatory connotations. I don't think other extraordinary people such as Lionel Messi, Olga Korbut, Mikael Baryshnikov to name a few, would appreciate being called freaks.
Second, some info about the song itself. You already know it was written for a rock opera (not opera, note the distinction). You may not know that it was written specifically for a French singer, Daniel Belavoine, who was known for his range. Hence, S.O.S. is intended as a showcase piece. It has become somewhat of a signature piece for Dimash because it demonstrates some of his abilities, particularly in the areas of range, technical expertise, tonality, and his ability to elicit emotion.
Third, as to special effects, I tend to agree that this particular version of S.O.S. best serves Dimash. If you are interested, the 2017 "I Am Singer" version is very stripped down, or some people prefer the Slavic Bazaar version which is also free of the extras.
Fourth, Dimash has had songs written for him to make use of his capabilities, many of those written by the famous Russian composer Igor Krutoy. Dimash has composed a lot of songs, but they generally are not "look at me" pieces a la Adele and Taylor Swift, or the sexually explicit or violent ones so common in pop music. Rather his music frequently has themes of world peace, such as "The Story of One Sky" and "War and Peace", or patriotic songs about his homeland Kazakstan.

    @lms1144 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Once you realise that Dimash actually uses his voice, the notes and inflections to tell the story of the song, you'll get past the 'is he just a freak show?' feeling. Dimash, Lara Fabian and Gary Moore are, in my opinion the best at making you understand the song without knowing or even having any lyrics at all. Sometimes you just have to open yourself up to feel, not think. To help answer your question further, please check out Ikanaide, Samaltau, Be With Me, Golden, Olympico, Daybreak, When I've Got You and Stranger. You'll see what I mean.

There are some really stupid comments here. Someone with an opera education comes across Dimash singing a neoclassical adventure. It is normal that he evaluates him through his own eyes and rightly so, because the surprise will be even greater when he hears more of his songs. Especially in the flood of low-quality music scene recently, it is normal that someone who hears Dimash for the first time may expect the worst in effects and artificial help that is popular now for singers who are not singers at all. I understand him completely.
I think that these comments here show more the lack of insight of the commentators and cast a bad light on Dimash fans rather than the quality of the reactor's father.
Real Dears never make comments like here. He has to hear more Dimash, we have to give him more time. Why don't you have some patience? And whom will reactor invite to his channel is his own business. You can skip it and go elsewhere.

I think your father is getting too in his own head on Dimash's range of octaves and styles. I've seen a couple people do that before, a couple more videos might help him get past that. He suggested a lack of conveying emotion in his voice alone, yet dismissed that range and those styles as a freak show aspect when in fact those are specific ways to convey those emotions. Even more so in a unique way basically no other human can do so. Beyond that you can certainly hear the emotion in Dimash's voice. Even former Opera singers that analyze him often credit him more on his ability to emote and convey emotion than his range. Though I get it, it this modern age of youtube etc it's easy to be a cynic and get stuck in your own head. I'd almost suggest having your father watch and listen to this again beyond the shock factor of the visual effects and Dimash's range.

Oh my dears - don’t be so judgmental. I have to say - his father is in some reason right. It was by far one of the worst chosen performances for his father. He would have better done the 2017 Version of The Singer in China - pure Voice without disturbing lights and overdrumming music and echo.
When I first saw this performance I really was disgusted, because I didn’t hear the beautiful voice of Dimash. Now I can be amused about.
I would say one of the best performances for this case is Autom strong the Arnau version in the red suit.
