Tommy Aldridge (born August 15, 1950) is a veteran heavy metal and hard rock drummer. Aldridge is noted for his work with numerous bands and artists since the 1970s, such as Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers Band, Ozzy Osbourne, Gary Moore, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent and Thin Lizzy among others.
Self-taught, Aldridge was initially inspired by the music of Cream, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. Drummers such as Joe Morello, Ginger Baker and John Bonham were particularly influential as Aldridge developed his drumming style. Aldridge himself has become a very influential drummer, regarded as a double bass pioneer.

I love (being a self taught drummer of 38 years Neil Peart main influence along with Stewart Copeland and of course Tommy). Loved him with Pat Travers, Snortin' Whiskey, BOO BOOM Out Go The Lights. I love the way he detunes the snare and rack tom giving them a higher pitch.

I was about 11 or 12 when I bought Ozzy's "Speak of the Devil" album (on vinyl and I still have it). Always in love with the drums from an early age, I wasn't 2 minutes into the opening track when I wondered out loud, "WHO IS THAT DRUMMER?!" That was my introduction to Tommy Aldridge, and I think he is one of the most brilliant, musical, flowing, funky, grooving-ass drummers in the history of Rock & Roll. ...and if you haven't heard the Sabbath classics as they're done on "Speak of the Devil", give that a listen. Between Aldridge on drums & Brad Gillis on guitar, what was a "throwaway" album for Ozzy & Sharon is one of the greatest things I've ever heard.

Tommy was such an influence on my drumming. I had to play DBL bass then and DBL pedal now. BOA, one of the bands that really played so many live tours and hence got so tight. No one went to the bathroom during Tommy's solos. They went during the bass solos...;)

Great stuff! At one time this entire song was uploaded on TH-cam, back when they didn't have the ten minute limit on videos. TH-cam axed it.
I love the end when lead guitarists Harvey Jett and Stanley Knight hurl their guitars into the air and let them come crashing down onto the stage, feedback and all. Raunch and Roll at its finest!

That guitar trashing probably came about after their "Double axe smash" went wrong in Charleston WV at a concert.
They used to line up across from each other and Jim Dandy would get in the middle.
On the last note, the guitar players would swing at Jim Dandys head, and just before they hit, the lights would go out, and JD would duck under the guitars, and the players would choke up and not collide.
At the show I was at, it went wrong, and the guitars hit, smashed, and some people in the front rows of the audience were injured.
    Tommy, You are the KING!!

I saw tommy play at the same show Rush played. Pat Travers opened for Rush in Feb 86 in Denver. To be fair to both drummers. Tommy Aldridge owned that entire show. But Neil was not without perfection. This comparison really comes down to style, genre, and the use of electronics by the drummer. It can be considered a preference or an opinion, so one being better than the other is subjective and nobody can be right or wrong. Tommy on playing drums just raw, straight up no tricks....showed that he was the drummer. Neil was more of what I consider to be a composer, an entire symphony, well above that of just a drummer. Playing drums, they are both relatively close at skill. some skills go to tommy like double bass, and crowd pleasing, involving showmanship, while snare technique goes to Neil especially with traditional grip and use of midi, triggers, and multiple percussion world percussion... Not that either player is unable to do either job, it is just a different beat. I would say this without a doubt Tommy is MY favorite drummer of all time. Neil doesn't go on the list... He is kind of above lists.

John Bonham is one of the best and one of my drum idols. Tommy Aldridge is to but he is a true Pioneer double bass drummer but if you really want to get into it Ed Shaughnessy was before Tommy Aldridge and a double bass player. But to really make it popular Tommy Aldridge did it but John Bonham did as well remember Communication Breakdown from Led Zeppelin in that video John Bonham is playing literally the same kit as Tommy in the video above . what's crazy is John Bonham could do on the bass drum with one foot more than what most people could do with 2 , but all in all Tommy is one of the best to ever do it. 💯💯💯💯☇☇😁😁😁
