I headcanon that the latter is Cynthia's sister. Just mentioning since you included her.
I do like this though for the Cynthia focus. For the first time, we finally see her feeling frustrated at the idea of being left behind while the other trainers grow stronger. It really highlights how despite her infamous reputation, *she's not invincible.* Even she still has to put in work if she wants to keep up with everyone else.
Big departure from the anime where she was thinking of retiring, but of course the game incarnation of her is made to be beaten, while the anime stretched Ash's journey for 26 years.
@@mightza3781 The anime version was a different case though. In that scenario, it was almost implied that she's been winning battles so long, she had almost likely gotten bored with it and wanted to pursue her real interest in that story of exploring Sinnnoh's myths and lore.
Here in the games, she's still as passionate about battles as everyone else. And I just find it interesting how even she can still feel like she's hit a wall at certain points. It just shows that despite the pedestal they've all put her on in the past, she's still human. All her fans certainly think she's perfect, but Cynthia herself knows better.

@@lightyoshiman Now that you mention it, it all makes sense now with how she aquired a certain Pokemon on her team.
Cynthia, after slaughtering her entire clan (save for her wee sister) using the overwhelming greatness of her Garchomp, used the knowledge gained from her archaeological discoveries to then seal their souls into an ancient keystone to create the very Spiritomb she uses in battle.
It all connects together now and quite nicely at that ya sees.
I don't play Pokémon Masters EX so I really appreciate these little run down of notable events like this about the costumes and the lore that they expand on. I feel like Volo might still be a descendant of Cynthia I feel like but she senses malicious intend in Volo and doesn't like the fact that he shares interests with her, or at least I think that's what is going on for now.

Volo rambles on and on about how he'll keep pursuing his goal even if it takes centuries after Rei defeats him in PLA; which I'm guessing he passes down his goal to his kids along with the eggs of his Pokemon being their starters, but in a game of broken telephone Cynthia does her own thing.
But why didn't Volo and Ikari/Rei tell their descendants, "I am your ancestor." in Darth Vader style? How'd their descendants react? And how'd that have been like?

My theory is that Cogita and Volo have a common ancestor, but Cynthia is only directly related to Cogita

My theory is that cogita is Volo's ancastor but their so far apart they dont even know it. Cogita is heavily implied to be very old and have many years ahead of her, and uts my theory that she was alove during the events of the antient hero mentioned in Legends Arceus which was 3000 years ago, which is more than enough time to be so far apart from someone in your family tree to not recognize them
I just tend to think Cogita and Volo had an ill advised fling before he vanished.
Yeah, Volo and Cogita seem like they're from the same small-knit tribe where everyone is related by a few degrees, a remnant of the Celestica people. So Volo wouldn't be Cynthia's great-great grandfather, but certainly one of her ancestors.
I really appreciate these little recaps of what goes on in Pokemon Masters since I don't play the game. I think that Cynthia is related to Volo, but she's more directly related to Cogita (they look exactly alike, only Cogita looks like an older version of her) and I think Volo is part of another branch of the family tree.
My guess is that Cynthia descends from Cogita and Volo is a relative of her, like the son of a cousin of Cogita or something like that.

The lack of Legends Arceus' mechanics in this game while it's been pointed out and used without really that much of a visual presentation makes me wonder if strong and agile style could ever really be a thing in masters.

I heard somewhere that Masters has some strict guidelines on how far they can stray from the main series games. Since it’s never *directly* confirmed that Volo is Cynthia’s ancestor, maybe Masters just isn’t allowed to say it directly 😂
What would've been like if they pulled Star Wars, "I am your father." quote? But only, it's "I am your 7th great-grandfather.". How'd Cynthia react? And what would she do about it?

I actually think Volo and Cynthia are related. My theory is that Cogita in really old, like alive during the antient hero that was about 3000 ish years ago thats mentioned in pla type old. Shes already heavily implied to have a long life span and have many more years ahead of her. I think that cogita is Volo's antient ancestor. Cogita is celestician and Volo mentions he has celestica blood, sure volo and cogita dont agknoledge eachither but they are 3000 ish years apart, and you wouldnt automatically assume a stranger is related to you just cuase you to look alike. Also im not sure if cogita can have kids, she has some grandmother vibes and though she has a long life span she clearly does show signs of age. I definitely amnt saying that volo ever settled down or found love, i wpuldnt be surpused if he had a kid then left the mother dissapearing to investigate sinnoh's myths or something
Though Cogita is implied to be that old, she doesn't seem PHYSICALLY that old, only about 45-50. The white hair does a lot to make her look older, but look at her face and body compared to the actually old people. Beni is in top shape for his age and he's still bent and shaking, while Cogita walks fully upright.

This interaction was so interesting. She’s on to him and his schemes right away, her renegade theme playing when they start the battle, it’s everything. I eagerly look forward to how this plays out.

I played Masters right as it came out but having a history with gatcha games made me burn out faster than maybe I should've. However, you present the literal best parts of this game, so please keep a retired oldy up to date! Not many talk about this amazing concept that still stands behind this game like so!

I like the theory of him being related to both Cynthia and Lusamine. Mostly because I didn’t know who Cynthia was when I played PLA, but knew about Lusamine, and because it’s funny.

As a day 1 PMEX player I really enjoy your PMEX coverage. As well as the main story elements it may also be nice to go over larger events like the neo-champions and anniversary which is upcoming.
Not a lot of channels continue to cover it and it's great to see a Poketuber who actually acknowledges it's place in the franchise and how it represents the characters
its a bit weird. volo has a togekiss which was first a togepi and it could only evolve with friendship (like cyrus crowbat) so it doesnt make sense that he treats his pkmn "bad"
Same with Cyrus and his Golbat. He didn't want emotions and all that but Golbat needs friendship to evolve into Crobat
Maybe that Togepi is as twisted as he is and evolved because of their shared bound of cruelty? I mean not all Pokémon act like how the Pokédex describes them, for instance was Hydreigon in the mystery Dungeon game kind and empathic, unlike what the dex described.

Volo also has a Lucario. Y'know, a Pokémon that can read minds and is completely aware of Volo's thoughts and feelings, thus making it impossible for Volo to fool him, and yet chooses to aid him on his own free will.

What I like about this channel is that you just talk about what you like talking about at the time with seemingly no pattern to the stuff you upload. So I say, just continue doing that for Pokémon Masters. If something is interesting to you, just go for it.
The gameplay of Pokémon Masters didn't really agree with me, so I appreciate you bringing up those story tidbits. It's not super common to see a youtuber taking a holistic approach to a franchise, for instance with Fire Emblem you're either talking about the mainline games or Heroes but never both. Only Faerghast sprinkles in a couple conversations from Heroes that serve to further characterize, well, the characters, in his character analysis, but that was a while ago.

The only thing more shocking than a tie between good vs. evil is a battle of good vs. evil involving our favorite Sinnoh champion Cynthia and her accursed ancestor Volo. I guess that level of power runs in the family. Doesn't it. But the point is if there are others that surpass the champions and are more powerful than them, especially Cynthia, then we are REALLY in trouble!

Volo is Cynthia direct ancestor thats much is known.
When you pick Volo with Cynthia he will say that both shares a strange connection.
Adaman has hinted how similar Cynthia looks to Volo to Rei.
Rei and Akari has also expressed how similar they look to Dawn and Lucas, and we do know their both their ancestors.

Cogita is actually immortal and she might be Volo ancestors and the only 1 left from the Sinnoh people bloodline, excluding Volo and Cynthia.
Volo uses Cynthia encounter theme as his battle theme. Even Renegades Cynthia uses her encounter as her battle theme, this is now shared between as Volo and Cynthia. Also not forgetting both have the same Team with exception of 1.
I wish it was more up front, yknow? Like, does Volo *know* they may have the same bloodline? Do they both know they like to use the same Pokemon? argh, cliffhangers!
Dang, I didn't know that the ending to Legends Arceus implies that Volo and Cynthia aren't on the same family tree (since I never ended up finishing the game) and that leaves me just a tiny bit sad. Because I can only imagine the drama and tension that could've been possible if they WERE on the same family tree and then met up in an event. Volo would've LOATHED Cynthia for how she "disgraces" his legacy and goals; meanwhile, Cynthia's fascination with Sinnoh folklore, as well as her love for the modern day world of Pokemon, would most likely drive her into a palpable hunger to prove to Volo just how wrong she thinks his beliefs are. I'm still gonna follow this event with the utmost excitement though!

Cynthia's internal dialogue only makes sense if you forget the fact that she formed a Sync Pair with Giratina in this game around the same time that Cyrus did with Darkrai, hence her comment. (Cyrus also has Palkia, mind you. Lucas has Dialga and Dawn has Cresselia)
I know the writers are trying to save the moment when the two face off in the tournament, but they're only playing off of Cynthia's struggle just so they can give her, Rei and/or Volo access to the Ultimate Sync Stones this upcoming anniversary (Which I assume is going to be a new broken gimmick and a rank higher than 6S EX Master Pairs. Ultimate Pairs, if you will)
I'll say that I have no interest in Masters game-wise. All the gacha stuff is something I cannot get involved with due to my gambling addiction. I really wish we could get the story as an actual game, so I really and genuinely appreciate you covering the story bits.
Seriously, I would pay 500 bucks if this were a main console game. No RNG prizegrabs, no fake difficulty as far as the extra bosses and content. The very concept of Masters on paper has the potential to be one of *The* most talked about and loved games in the franchise...... *If it WEREN'T wasted as a stupid Gacha Game.*

Cynthia is a much better trainer of Pokémon than her ancestor Volo. Evolution weeded out the worst qualities of him in his descendant and she is far better than he will ever be, hence Arceus respects and likes her, and doesn't do that with Volo, who is evil.
